As for today, radio spectrum resource is rigidly partitioned for dedicated purposes. The exclusive license of fixed size spectrum blocks separated by guard bands easily solves the interference problems; however, the rigid allocation of spectrum is clearly inadequate for providing optimal spectrum efficiency for spatially and temporarily varying loads. Dynamic spectrum allocation (DSA) is a new and promising alternative where the assigned spectrum blocks may vary in time and space, too. In this paper we describe a spatio-temporal DSA model that splits the complex problem into temporal and spatial dynamic spectrum allocation. In our architecture the spectrum is allocated by regional spectrum brokers (RSB) that also coordinate spectrum access between regions. The problem of interference between different regions and providers is handled by a flexible description using the proposed geographical and radio technology coupling parameters. We also show how the optimal allocation can be found by giving the ILP solution to the problem. To evaluate the efficiency of the proposed DSA method, different gains are defined from the regulator's point of view. The performance evaluation is carried out using computer simulations, and the results are compared with the cases where either there is no interference allowed at all, or interference does not occur between regions.

The Internet consists of a collection of more than 21000 domains called Autonomous Systems (AS) operated mostly under different authorities (operators/providers) that although co-operate over different geographical areas, they compete in a country or other area. Today BGP is the de facto standard for exchanging reachability information over the domain boundaries and for inter-domain routing. The GMPLS controlled optical beared networks are expected to have similar architecture, however, more information has to be carried for TE, resilience and QoS purposes. Therefore, extensions of BGP and of PNNI as well as the PCE have been proposed. Still in all cases emerges the question of protection shareability. For dedicated protection it is enough to know the topology of the network to be able to calculate disjoint paths. However, to be able to perform sharing of protection resources (shared protection) it is not enough to know the topology, but it is mandatory to know exact working and protection path pairs for all the demands, since protection paths can share a certain resource only if there is no such a pair of working paths that contain any element from the same Shared Risk Group (SRG). This can be checked within a domain where the full topology and link-state information is flooded, however, over the domain boundaries for security and scalability reasons no such information is being spread. In this paper we propose using two techniques that do not require flooding the information on working and protection paths while they still allow sharing of resources. These two techniques are the Multi-Domain p- Cycles (MD-PC) and the Multi-Domain Multi-Path Routing with Protection (MD-MPP). After explaining the principles of these methods we give illustrative results.

The specification of the long term evolution (LTE) of 3G systems is currently ongoing in 3GPP with a target date of ready specification at the end of 2007. The evolved radio access network (RAN) involves a new radio interface based on OFDM technology and a radically different RAN architecture, where radio functionality is distributed into the base stations. The distributed nature of the RAN architecture calls for new radio control algorithms and procedures that operate in a distributed manner, including a distributed handover scheme as well. The most important aspects of the handover procedure in LTE has been already settled in 3GPP except a few details. In this paper we give an overview of the LTE intra-access handover procedure and evaluate its performance focusing on the user perceived performance aspects of it. We investigate the necessity of packet forwarding from a TCP throughput point of view, we analyse the problem of out of order packet delivery during handover and propose a simple solution for it. Finally, we investigate the impact of HARQ/ARQ state discard at handover on the radio efficiency. The results show that neither the user perceived performance nor the radio efficiency are compromised by the relocation based handover procedure of LTE.

QoS routes need availability assurance. Regardless of the applied protection scheme, there are several heuristic algorithms that can approximate the availability of connections based on the availability parameters of network components along the connection path. Accurate approximation can be achieved with simple and fast calculation only for the most basic protection schemes, the more complex the protection scheme is the more complex and long running calculation is required to get the result. Though, the inaccuracy of the heuristic algorithms is negligible in the most cases of practical usage. In this paper we present an availability calculation method for p-cycles that exploits the special properties of the p-cycle protection scheme and provides accurate results without enumerating all the possible network or protection configuration states. The method evaluates the availability of the connection along the working path link-by-link incrementally, pre-calculating also those conditional availabilities of the connection-part that may be used in latter calculations. Theoretically, the complexity of the algorithm is still O(2 n ), however, in fact n does not get high, moreover, it can be kept moderate low if the size of the cycles is constrained.

In this paper, a new, stochastic approach to the clustering of directed graphs is presented. This method differs from the commonly used ones by defining the term "cluster" in an alternative way: a cluster can even be a set of vertices that don't connect to each other at all, provided that they have the same connectional preference to other vertices. First, a short overview of the current state of the art will be given. Then the underlying theory of this alternative clustering method will be explained and a possible implementation will be proposed. To support the validity of this approach, benchmark results on computer-generated graphs as well as two real applications are presented.

Multi-die packages with vertical (stacked) arrangement became popular in many application fields, necessitating appropriate thermal measurement and modeling techniques. In this study we present our attempt to yield boundary condition independent models of stacked die packages that reflect phenomena experienced by measurements. In our approach we propose an extension of the DELPHI model topology (accounting for multiple junctions). We also tried to extract most of the input data for model generation directly from thermal transient measurement results by the application of structure functions and by using electronically variable thermal resistances applied as boundary conditions during tests.

It is well-known that constraint satisfaction problems (CSP) can be solved in time n O(k) if the treewidth of the primal graph of the instance is at most k and n is the size of the input. We show that no algorithm can be significantly better than this treewidth-based algorithm, even if we restrict the problem to some special class of primal graphs. Formally, let g be an arbitrary class of graphs and assume that there is an algorithm A solving binary CSP for instances whose primal graph is in g. We prove that if the running lime of A is f(G)n O(k/logk) , where k is the treewidth of the primal graph G and f is an arbitrary function, then the Exponential Time Hypothesis fails. We prove the result also in the more general framework of the homomorphism problem for bounded-arity relational structures. For this problem, the treewidth of the core of the left-hand side structure plays the same role as the. treewidth of the primal graph above.

3D model reconstruction plays a very important role in computer vision as well as in different engineering applications. The determination of the 3D model from multiple images is of key importance. One of the most important difficulties in autonomous 3D reconstruction is the (automatic) selection of the "significant" points which carry information about the shape of the 3D bodies i.e. are characteristic from the model point of view. Another problem to be solved is the point correspondence matching in different images. In this paper a 3D reconstruction technique is introduced, which is capable to determine the 3D model of a scene without any external (human) intervention. The method is based on recent results of image processing, epipolar geometry, and intelligent and soft techniques. Possible applications of the presented algorithm in vehicle system dynamics are also presented. The results can be applied advantageously at other engineering fields, like car-crash analysis, robot guiding, object recognition, supervision of 3D scenes, etc,, as well.

Adaptive Fourier analyzers have been developed for measuring periodic signals with unknown or changing fundamental frequency. Typical applications are vibration measurements and active noise control related to rotating machinery and calibration equipment that can avoid the changes of the line frequency by adaptation. Higher frequency applications have limitations since the computational complexity of these analyzers are relatively high as the number of harmonic components to be measured (or suppressed) is usually above SO. Recently, a fast-filter bank structure has been proposed for adaptive Fourier analysis based on the combination of the concept of transform domain signal processing and the adaptation of a simple linear combiner. It results in the reduction of the above computational complexity, however for the correct use we have to have pre-estimation about the range of the fundamental frequency (or frequencies) to be able to set the applied single-input multiple-output filter-banks, which in many cases causes significant and possibly non-tolerable delay in the operation. In this paper a new fuzzy logic supported frequency range estimation procedure is proposed which makes possible to execute the frequency estimation in the first half of the period of the unknown signal, i.e. the adaptation and Fourier Analysis can be performed without any delay.

The audio system controlling protocol (ASCP) was originally developed for the fully configurable freely scalable digital audio system. The problem of the fiber optic audio system was rather simple: How to control the system over one fiber optic line which is already being used for the audio transmission? Fortunately the current CS8420 IC uses AES3 protocol for the audio transmission over fiber optic. After some research it was found that the AES3 User bit or the Channel Status bit might prove to be quite useful for the project. A protocol may be implemented and applied for control. This led to a further issue: how to construct the structure of the ASCP? Several types of protocol were examined in search for a suitable basic structure for the ASCP. Eventually it was decided that the GPIB (IEEE-488) |1| disposed of the right features. However, the final version of the protocol is not a GPIB clone. The initial coding was followed by a set of difficulties such as setting up the IC's registers for inserting of the User bits, how to buffer these manually added bits, interrupt handling, and finally interfacing the system with one PC. The construction period ended in success in the form of a functioning protocol able to completely control the system deserving of the term "fully configurable".
