The shape of the objects is an important property, which can be used by many applications. There are simple shapes, which can be acquired by the most of the 3D measurement devices. There are very complex surfaces, as well, which acquisition can be performed only by a small subset of the recently used techniques. The goal of our work is to develop a measurement device, which is able to measure complicated surfaces containing hidden areas with high precision. The algorithm is optimized for real-time processing.

Based on experimental data a joint method for nominal model error modeling and robust control is presented for linear time-invariant (LTI) systems. The goal of the method is to design a controller that attain robust quadratic performance and stability of the closed loop, and simultaneously construct an uncertainty model that is not invalidated by measurement data. The problem is motivated by the need for non-conservative and reliable modeling of neglected or unknown dynamics and effect of outer disturbances. The components of dynamic errors and disturbances are balanced in the model in order to improve conditions for designing the specified controller. The problem statement and solution is formulated in terms of integral quadratic constraints (IQCs) and linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The resulted method is a modified version of the well-known DK-iteration in μ -synthesis.

In this paper, we consider the application of delay-tolerant networks to personal wireless communications. In these networks, selfish nodes can exploit the services provided by other nodes by downloading messages that interest them, but refusing to store and distribute messages for the benefit of other nodes. We propose a mechanism to discourage selfish behavior based on the principles of barter. We develop a game-theoretic model in which we show that the proposed approach indeed stimulates cooperation of the nodes. In addition, the results show that the individually most beneficial behavior leads to the social optimum of the system.

In this paper a promising routing method is presented for optical packet switched networks. First, we give an overview of optical packet switching methods, then we present a new subcarrier multiplexed label approach, and the implemented functionalities of it. We also present the experimental results of label transmission, and node implementation.

The introduction of High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) presents new challenges to be solved in the UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network. Bandwidth reservation for HSDPA is not efficient and TCP cannot efficiently resolve a congestion situation because lower layer retransmissions hide the congestion situations from TCP. An HSDPA Flow Control algorithm was introduced by 3GPP to control congestion. This HSDPA Flow Control algorithm was originally intended to control radio scheduler queues in Node B. In this paper we propose an algorithm that also provides congestion control in the transport network. The performance analysis concentrates on transport network limited scenarios and shows that the algorithm can achieve high end-user perceived throughput, while maintaining low delay and loss in the transport network. The analysis also shows the advantages of the newly introduced congestion detection functionality.

Due to the boom in complex network research, large graph datasets appeared in various fields, from social sciences (P. Holme et al., 2004) to computer science (C.R. Myers, 2003), (*** et al., 1999), (A-L. Barabasi and R. Albert, 1999) and biology (L. Negyessy et al., 2006). There is an increasing demand for data mining methods that allow scientists to make sense of the datasets they encounter. In this paper, we present two graph models and two maximum likelihood algorithms that fit these models to pre-defined data. We also show two example applications to illustrate that these algorithms are able to extract interesting and meaningful properties from the data represented by appropriate graphs.

In this paper we consider the problematic design of safety critical systems for future commercial vehicles. The development of such systems is mainly driven by the social demand that the citizens want to see safer, more reliable vehicles on the roads, which can also handle more complex situations than the human driver can. Redundant electronic systems confront us with new challenges in reliability analysis, since handling and defining their back-up strategies is not a straightforward task by means of using qualitative approaches. It is also questionable whether the well-known approaches of classical reliability theory are appropriate for redundant electronic systems, especially if they are of safety critical nature, such as the electronic brake system that has been used in commercial vehicles in Europe for almost a decade. The paper presents a less widespread and a more widespread technique through reliability theory, which enable the designer organizing functions and subsystems, failures and logical relationships between failures from the system level up-to the last component without missing any of them.

Redundant sensing capabilities are often required in sensor network applications due to various reasons, e.g. robustness, fault tolerance, or increased accuracy. At the same time high sensor redundancy offers the possibility of increasing network lifetime by scheduling sleep intervals for some sensors and still providing continuous service with help of the remaining active sensors. In this paper centralized and distributed algorithms are proposed to solve the k-coverage sensing problem and maximize network lifetime. When physically possible, the proposed robust controlled greedy sleep algorithm provides guaranteed service independently of node and communication errors in the network. The performance of the algorithm is illustrated and compared to results of a random solution by simulation examples.

In conventional robot system development the different robot parts (sensors, processing elements, actuators) are combined together in a compact, self contained system. The need for faster development, system reconfigurability and flexibility required the introduction of middleware frameworks for robot systems. One promising middleware framework is the RT-middleware technology (and its implementation named OpenRTM-aist), which is getting more and more popular in robot system design. Vision sensors are one of the most important sensors in robot systems. When constructing a new robot system, it is desirable that vision and image processing components are just as easily integrated as any other robot components. Unfortunately, RT-middleware is not yet equipped with such RT-components. This need can be satisfied by introducing a new image processing toolbox, directly obtained from DIMAN, a existing software previously developed by the authors. DIMAN is a distributed framework for image processing, with a modular architecture very similar to RT-middleware. The modules of DIMAN satisfy the needs of robot systems with respect to vision related tasks. Through experimental results usability of DIMAN in robot vision will be shown in this paper. Furthermore DIMAN module deployment in RT-middleware based robot systems will be introduced also.

The main object of this paper is to introduce a model for describing how the energy distribution changes during deformational processes, esp. in car crashes. This an important and difficult task in accident analysis and in safety car-body design. Exact estimation or measuring of the absorbed energy by the deformation is almost impossible. The classical tool for this task is usually a differential equation based finite element method, which requires exact knowledge about the parameters and takes a lot of computational time with high complexity. In the following we introduce a simple numerical model for the changing of the energy distribution during the whole deformational process.
