Although the new Information and Communication Technologies and especially the Internet have provided new, revolutionary tools for the external information gathering, empirical research papers in literature do not report on major improvement in the use of Internet for Competitive Intelligence. This paper tests three aspects of Internet use for CI: Web-sites of competitors, external databases and online forums. Tests are based on a large sample of more than five hundred companies over two consecutive years. More than one half of them still does not use the Internet for any of the three aspects, and only 2, 4% used all of them. The author suggests that this under-development could be changed with a knowledge-based approach, which would allow better evaluation of decision-makers' needs, the role of IT and the expected costs. Finally the paper presents a method to evaluate a company's immaterial assets that can be used to evaluate the development level of Competitor Intelligence systems as well.

Besides their electrical properties the optical parameters of LEDs also depend on junction temperature. For this reason thermal characterization and thermal management plays important role in case of power LEDs, necessitating tools both for physical measurements and simulation. The focus of this paper is a combined electrical, thermal and optical characterization of such devices. In terms of simulation a novel approach of board-level electro-thermal simulation is presented whereas in terms of measurement, a combined thermal and radiometric characterization method is discussed

Some advancements in information technology as application support for Internet browsers and modeling of interrelated objects are well appropriate to establish distance learning in advanced computer environment. One of the best developing areas in application of information technology is engineering. A great promise is integration of virtual environments in engineering and Internet based distance education. Methodology reported in (I. J. Rudas et al., 2000) and (L. Horvath et al., 2002) represents one of the possible directions of development towards this integration. Considering some basic concepts and methods from the proposals of the authors of these papers, this paper discusses problem and methodology, and details some practical issues for the implementation of the proposed method in the higher education practice. In this paper, cooperating managers and managing techniques are introduced for virtual classrooms. Next, selection or definition of a course and constraints in classroom models are discussed. Following this, structure and construction of classroom model are explained. Finally, integration of modeled classroom with engineering system is detailed as an implementation issue

This paper presents a multiple robot coordination method for target tracking problem. The coordination is to achieve a desired formation during the team operation. The individual decision of robots on the moving direction induces conflict situation within the team, a typical feature in the noncooperative game theory that makes the global coordination nontrivial. The contribution of the paper is a game theoretic approach that improves the convergence of target tracking independently of the initial weight of cost components. The method uses semi-cooperative Stackelberg equilibrium instead of Nash equilibrium, a new formation component in the individual cost functions and a fuzzy inference system for high level cost weight tuning. The results are simulated on a target tracking example where the target is followed by a team of three simple mobile robots.

Triple Play requires cost-effective implementation of three services that are different in both traffic and QoS requirements. The methods applied for optimization of Ethernet trees must support not only point-to-point pipes but also point-to-multipoint connections for multicast and statistical multiplexing models for better resource allocation. In this paper we present a QoS architecture for Triple Play service over metro Ethernet networks. Based on the architecture we propose an optimization framework and a novel scalable heuristic algorithm that supports optimal off-line configuration of trees and optimal VLAN assignment to these trees. The optimized configuration considers traffic engineering (TE) objectives and can be performed via centralized management plane. The obtained results show, that the performance of the proposed optimization framework can be further improved if the aggregation pipes are statistically multiplexed. Meanwhile, the proposed algorithm remains scalable, i.e. its complexity does not increase at all

Moire topography technique is widely used for automatic inspection systems and machine vision. The problem common for all Moire methods is extraction information about surface ambiguities. Many solutions were worked up to solve the hill and valley problem. Mostly proposed methods required moving hardware and/or complicated analyzing process. In this paper we present a new computer aided color-encoded Moire contouring technique, that simple, cheap and quickly solves the problem of ambiguities in Moire patterns. The next generation mobile access network system design needs more precise characterisation of the radio channel and and needs sophisticated propagation models because of the decreasing cell sizes and of higher data rates. Especially planning coverage in tunnels and indoor spaces causes design problems without these models. The FDTD based model is able to characterise the above scenarios and using this a costly measurement effort can be reduced using simulation methods. In this article nearly circular subway tunnel is modeled in absence and presence of vehicle. The model can be applied for determine the field strength distribution on a cut plane of the tunnel with leaky cable excitation.

The surface normals of a 3D human model, generated form multiple viewpoint capture, are refined using an iterative variant of the shape-from-shading technique to recover fine details of clothing enabling relighting of the model according to a new virtual environment. The method requires the images to consist of a number of uniformly coloured surface patches.
