The paper is concerned with the stability analysis of a feedback controlled resonant dual channel buck&boost converter. The output voltage is controlled by using constant frequency PWM and PI controller. The analysis is based on the eigenvalues of the Jacobian matrix of the Poincaré Map Function (PMF). After small perturbation determining the deviations of the state variables from the periodic trajectory, the Jacobian matrix is calculated without the need to determine the PMF itself. The introduction of the so-called auxiliary state vector greatly facilitates the calculation. Calculation and simulation results included helps the design of the control loop.

Recently it has been shown that sum and product are not the only operations that can be used in order to define concrete approximation operators but several operations provided by fuzzy logic can be used. In this sense, in the present paper, pseudo-linear approximation operators of Shepard-type are studied from the practical point of view, in function approximation. It is shown that in several cases these outperform classical approximation operators based on sum and product operations.

This paper introduces a new dynamic availability-aware survivable routing scheme under the framework of generalized multi-protocol label switching (GMPLS)-based recovery, which aims to achieve the best generality for the network operation in meeting the end-to-end (E2E) availability requirement of each connection. The paper first defines the partial restorability, justifies the feasibility of equipping a connection with partial restorability under the GMPLS control plane, and highlights the approach of evaluating the E2E availability for a pair of working and partially restorative SRG (shared risk group)-disjoint shared backup label switched paths (LSPs). A compact matrix expression is developed for modeling the minimum spare capacity along each link and the cost function for solving both of the paths. Based on the developed cost function, a novel integer linear program (ILP) is formulated to dynamically determine the working and backup LSPs of the corresponding connection request with the least amount of total capacity while the E2E availability requirement of the connection is met. We demonstrate that the model is general to the traffic uniformity, connection indivisibility, and working bandwidth restorability compared with the previous studies. Simulation is conducted to verify the proposed ILP model by making a comparison with a number of legacy schemes that achieve 100% restorability in facing a specific number of simultaneous failures, such as shared path protection (SPP), 1+1 protection, and dual-failure protection. In the case study, we have seen merits in the proposed algorithm by significantly reducing the required redundancy in the effort of achieving the given availability constraint for each connection request.

The electronics industry is in the transition to lead-free technology, and it is very important for all industrial performers, to keep pace with this process. Lead-free soldering has become a big issue because of environmental concerns. The application of lead-free soldering alloys requires new design, materials, process, inspection and rework considerations. A training course has been developed with five modules to cover the following topics, which are particularly important for small and medium size enterprises for their everyday practice: Module 1. Solder paste printing and stencil handling; Module 2. Reflow and wave soldering temperature profiling; Module 3. Lead-free plating finishes for boards and components; Module 4. Hand soldering and rework; Module 5. Solder joint visual inspection. The Web-based e-learning version of the course is accessible for registered members at the LEADOUT project Web site (***). In the paper, the general requirements of solder joints, the soldering process and the temperature profile optimization procedure of reflow and wave soldering are presented.

A new acoustic localization scheme is proposed, which can be applied in sensor networks with low communication bandwidth. The first step of the two-stage algorithm is distributed and is evaluated at the sensors having possibly low communication capabilities. The sensors detect various events in the acoustic signal and transmit only the event descriptors to the base station where the sensor fusion is calculated in the second step using a novel generalized consistency function. Test results validate the performance of the proposed system in a noisy and reverberant environment. According to experiments, the proposed system decreases the necessary communication bandwidth with multiple orders of magnitude and still provides high accuracy comparable with that of the sophisticated beam-forming methods

In this paper detailed dynamic analysis of a quantitative mathematical model of a polymerization process is presented. The process serves as an appropriate paradigm of multi-variable dynamic systems of strong non-linear coupling in the control of which the state propagation of various internal degrees of freedom cannot directly be controlled: the desired output is nonlinear function of these quantities. In the present example only a single input variable is used as the control signal (process input), and a single output variable is observed (process output) for this purpose. In contrast to a former approach in which the stability of the steady states was proved by perturbation calculus and the process was approximately treated as a 1 st order problem in its quasi-stationary limit by an ARMAX-type (autoregressive moving average model with external input) control, in the present paper the "exact" 2 nd order dynamics of the transitions between different steady states is considered. It is observed that the response of the system is negative definite function of the process input. On this basis a special adaptive controller is constructed the operation of which far excels that of the quasi-stationary 1 st order one. It is concluded that with a sampling time of about 0.067/2, 0.067, and 2 times 0.067 s quite precise control can be achieved. This sampling rate is smaller but almost comparable with the 0.2 s sampling time commonly applied for such reactions in the industry. The conclusions are justified by simulation results

This paper presents a cognitive vision based approach to recognize polygons on a natural image. The approach is based on the visual feature array (VFA), which is a cognitive computational model of the mammalian primary visual processing. VFA, as a multidimensional orthogonal data structure, contains data about the line segment and vertex features in the edge detected input image. Based on the features available in VFA, using the universal feature extractor classifier (UFEX), the problem of polygon categorization and recognition is addressed. The results are compared to solutions by conventional neural networks, such as the learning vector quantization network

The main objective of the paper is to present new browser-based, interactive software tools for modeling of various power electronics circuits. The static and dynamic operation, including the continuous and discrete time linearization of widely applied DC-DC converter cells are discussed in the first part of the paper. The second part focuses on the basics of the pulse-width-modulation and its application in one-phase sinusoidal inverters. The interactive tools provide numerous excellent opportunities for industrial and academic education. Another application field of numerous embedded interactive software components is their utilization as fast, real-time model-building tools

In this paper the theoretical operation of incremental (charge-balancing) delta-sigma (DeltaSigma) converters is reviewed, and the implementation of a 22-bit incremental A/D converter is described. Two different analyses of the first-order incremental converter are presented, and based on these results two extensions to higher-order modulators are proposed. Since line-frequency noise suppression is often important in measurement applications, modulators followed by sinc k filters are also analyzed. Equations are derived for the estimation of the required number of cycles for a given resolution and architecture. Finally, the design and implementation of a third-order incremental converter with a fourth-order sine filter is briefly discussed
