Due to the heavy traffic, people living in urban areas have to get used to congested roads, increased traveling time, and stressful situations. There is a strong demand on acquiring real-time flow data on actual traffic and road conditions. Our paper presents a method on acquiring several traffic data from different data sources, such as induction loop sensor data (vehicle volume, average flow speed, road occupancy), traffic monitoring video camera images, position data of the public transport vehicles and cabs, digital database of road construction areas. A technique to combine and analyze them in sophisticated GIS (Geographic Information System) environment is also presented in the paper. Our method involves state-of-the-art multimedia communication applications, including Internet and cell-phone based JAVA Mobile Edition systems. The actual flow information are represented in easy-to-understand color-coding on the maps.

Conventional teaching methods, based on lectures, static written materials, laboratories, etc., have become rather difficult at all levels of MST (microsystems technologies) education, recently. To supply this field with well-educated engineers with interdisciplinary knowledge, it is necessary to teach them basic sciences, technology, applications, and designing aspects (reliability, packaging, etc.) belonging to the topic of MST. Also the knowledge of user engineers should be upgraded-possibly in a form of distance learning. The main objective of the described project here is the development of a multimedia supported education material that teaches/overviews the theoretical background, manufacturing, as well as practical application of microelectronics, microelectro/opto/mechanical systems and their packaging technologies in order to prepare experts for designing next generation intelligent micro/nanointegrated systems in the new century. The new approach tries to exploit all advantages of multimedia computer aided teaching not only for keeping the competitiveness but also in order to overcome the specific difficulties of the particular area. The modern educational software tool can secure up to date information, easy-to-understand visualisation of the 3D MEMS structures and interactive examples of the subject. The course material will be available both on the Internet and on CDs for the technical community, for other university professors for teaching, and also will continuously be developed.

In the area of high voltages and powers, the high quality inverter-fed AC drive is more easily achieved by the use of three-level inverters. For three-level inverters three different PWM control regions can be introduced where different two-phase (discontinuous) PWM strategies may be applied. This paper deals with the analysis of voltage spectra of one discontinuous PWM method of three-level inverters when every 30deg of each fundamental period the one motor phase is clamped to DC bar. The derivation of the analytical equations of motor voltage harmonics for this PWM method is given for both the realizations: with one and with two carrier waves. The comparison of the voltage spectra of the possible PWM methods is presented. It is shown that in the low voltage area the same value of motor harmonic losses are produced for both one and two carrier wave PWM. However, for the high voltage area the harmonic losses associated with the two carrier modulation are usually considerably lower than in case of one carrier method. The two carrier method can be disadvantageous only for low modulation frequency when the low order harmonics reach the sensitive value

Nowadays, in solving control problems, the processing of the information always involves some kind of measurement and signal processing tasks, as well. This fact has pressed experts focus more deeply on modeling and signal processing techniques and to apply non-classical, artificial intelligence, and soft computing based methods to overcome problems arising from the increased complexity of the today's systems. In this paper, the author shows that measurement and signal processing problems of now-a-days open new dimensions for the interpretation of the basic concepts of measurement and signal processing and make the reevaluation of these concepts necessary. Traditional methods fail in many cases to yield useful solutions, especially when measurement and signal processing problems reveal considerable complexity, involve a wide spectrum of various disciplines and require a multitude of components and methods. The paper gives a brief overview of various imprecise computational methods and discusses their applicability to treat complex modeling, signal processing, and control problems.
