The IEEE 802.15.4a task group for wireless personal area networks (WLANs) is working on an ultra-wideband radio (UWB) standard for the indoor radio applications. Among the modulation schemes proposed, the noncoherent impulse radio and chaotic frequency modulated differential chaos shift keying (FM-DCSK) modulation schemes belong to the class of transmitted reference (TR) systems. This paper proposes a unified theory for the TR systems that makes possible the comparison of the FM-DCSK and noncoherent impulse radio systems, gives an exact expression for the noise performance of generalized TR system and determines the feasibility of an FM-DCSK UWB radio system.

The paper proposes a fuzzy control solution based on a new Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy controller (TS-FC) dedicated to speed control of hydro turbine generators, where the plant is nonminimum phase systems. In the first phase PI controllers are developed ensuring desired maximum values both for the sensitivity function (s.f.) and for the complementary s.f. in frequency domain. Accepting the approximate equivalence between fuzzy controllers and the linear ones in certain conditions, an attractive design method for a four inputs-two outputs TS-FC is offered. The fuzzy control system guarantees maximum imposed s.f.s and therefore good responses with respect to modifications of reference and disturbance inputs, and robustness with respect to model uncertainties. The proposed solution has been validated through simulation of a real-world case study. The controller is compared with two PI controllers designed separately with respect to the reference input and to one of the disturbance inputs.

In this paper a novel high-quality reconstruction scheme is presented. Although our method is mainly proposed to reconstruct volumetric data sampled on an optimal body-centered cubic (BCC) grid, it can be easily adapted lo the conventional regular rectilinear grid as well. The reconstruction process is decomposed into two steps. The first step, which is considered to be a preprocessing, is a discrete Gaussian deconvolution performed only once in the frequency domain. Afterwards, the second step is a spatial-domain convolution with a truncated Gaussian kernel, which is used to interpolate arbitrary samples for ray casting. Since the preprocessing is actually a discrete prefiltering, we call our technique prefiltered Gaussian reconstruction (PGR). It is shown that the impulse response of PGR well approximates the ideal reconstruction kernel. Therefore the quality of PGR is much higher than that of previous reconstruction techniques proposed for optimally sampled data, which are based on linear and cubic box splines adapted to the BCC grid. Concerning the performance, PGR is slower than linear box-spline reconstruction but significantly faster than cubic box-spline reconstruction.

Dealing with user interface, database or communication, programming is not so straightforward as expected. In this paper we will introduce a rapid application development tool set on the Symbian OS. We model the user interface and the statechart of the mobile applications with a novel tool (Visual Modeling and Transformation System). After this design phase, source code can be generated. Instruction set extension is a common way to improve the performance of embedded processors. During my work the Microblaze synthesizable processor was used. It has a special high-speed bus called fast simplex link (FSL) enabling to develop multiprocessor systems and to integrate customized IP cores into the design. In the Xilinx usage scenario the operands of the special instruction are transmitted through the FSL link. To achieve higher data transfer rate the FSL was used only to control the function of the custom IP while the operands required for the operation read directly from the on-chip data memory.

Recent Internet access speeds have made it possible even for home users to reach and use previously unavailable bandwidth consuming (e.g. video on demand) services. However, the rapid spread of these applications is hindered by the lack of QoS guarantees in packet networks. In this article a QoS architecture is presented which have been designed for access networks and applies a logical overlay network to make network management tasks easier. The novelty of the architecture lies in the application of two key procedures adopted for dimensioning logical channels between edge nodes and mapping them to the physical routes. The upper load thresholds of the applied logical channels are also determined, which may form the basis of a more sophisticated call admission control policy.

Multiprovider inter-domain routing can be modeled using game theory, since the domains (or the domain operators) act as players trying to maximize their revenues. Each domain decides what intra-domain connection alternatives it advertises for inter-domain traffic and what the key attributes are of these intra-domain connections (allocation cost, latency, bandwidth or confidence level of availability). The advertised parameters affect the routing algorithm, the selected inter-domain path as well as the payoff of all the operators. As the broadband communication networks become optical, our model assumes a two layer network consisting of autonomous domains, where the optical cross-connects have limited wavelength conversion capability. In this paper we study the dependency of the domain income and the advertised cost of connection alternatives, assuming "cheapest-path" routing. We examined basic scenarios of inter-domain routing and determined Nash and Pareto equilibrium for different network load levels, where provider tariffs and end-user satisfaction were taken into account simultaneously. Beside analytical results, we ran simulations which met our expectations.
