In recent years, receiver (RX) feedback communication has attracted increasing attention to enhance the charging performance for magnetic resonant coupling (MRC) based wireless power transfer (WPT) systems. People prefer to adopt the in-band implementation with minimal overhead costs. However, the influence of RX-RX coupling couldn't be directly ignored like that in the RFID field, i.e., strong couplings and relay phenomenon. In order to solve these two critical issues, we propose a Robust layer-level in-band parallel communication protocol for MIMO MRC-WPT systems (called Roland). Technically, we first utilize the observed channel decomposability to construct group-level channel relationship graph for eliminating the interference caused by strong RX-RX couplings. Then, we generalize such method to deal with the RX dependency due to relay phenomenon. Finally, we conduct extensive experiments on a prototype testbed to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. The results demonstrate that our Roland could provide ≥95% average decoding accuracy for concurrent feedback communication of 14 devices. Compared with the state-of-the-art solution, the proposed protocol Roland can achieve an average decoding accuracy improvement of 20.41%. © 2023 IEEE.

Multi-video Moment Ranking with Multimodal Clue

Video corpus moment retrieval (VCMR) is the task of retrieving a relevant video moment from a large corpus of untrimmed videos via a natural language query. State-of-the-art work for VCMR is based on two-stage method. In this paper, we focus on improving two problems of two-stage method: (1) Moment prediction bias: The predicted moments for most queries come from the top retrieved videos, ignoring the possibility that the target moment is in the bottom retrieved videos, which is caused by the inconsistency of Shared Normalization during training and inference. (2) Latent key content: Different modalities of video have different key information for moment localization. To this end, we propose a two-stage model MultI-video raNking with mUlTimodal cluE (MINUTE). MINUTE uses Shared Normalization during both training and inference to rank candidate moments from multiple videos to solve moment predict bias, making it more efficient to predict target moment. In addition, Mutilmdaol Clue Mining (MCM) of MINUTE can discover key content of different modalities in video to localize moment more accurately. MINUTE outperforms the baselines on TVR and DiDeMo datasets, achieving a new state-of-the-art of VCMR. Our code will be available at GitHub. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In environmental monitor architecture, the usual way of processing data is centralized. On the one hand, this leads to a long time of data processing, and with the increasing number of monitoring sensors, the pressure of data processing in data centers increases sharply. The edge computing provides a feasible solution to relieve the processing pressure and decrease the delay of data processing in data center. However, in the environmental monitor system, the edge servers are often load unbalance because of the nonuniform distribution of sensors. While, it is usually ignored in recently researches. In this paper, we proposed a cooperative offloading strategy (MECOGA) based on genetic algorithm (GA). It aims to ease the data processing pressure and reduce the data processing time in the data center. In addition, the load balance of edge servers is also one of our optimization goals. In this paper, we aim at decreasing task processing delay and improving the system load balancing. Contrast to other algorithms, our MECOGA decreases the delay near 20% before collaborative loading. And the balance variance is 15% smaller than the Balance strategy. © 2022 Association for Computing Machinery.

Semantic Structure Enhanced Event Causality Identification

Event Causality Identification (ECI) aims to identify causal relations between events in unstructured texts. This is a very challenging task, because causal relations are usually expressed by implicit associations between events. Existing methods usually capture such associations by directly modeling the texts with pre-trained language models, which underestimate two kinds of semantic structures vital to the ECI task, namely, event-centric structure and event-associated structure. The former includes important semantic elements related to the events to describe them more precisely, while the latter contains semantic paths between two events to provide possible supports for ECI. In this paper, we study the implicit associations between events by modeling the above explicit semantic structures, and propose a Semantic Structure Integration model (SemSIn). It utilizes a GNN-based event aggregator to integrate the event-centric structure information, and employs an LSTM-based path aggregator to capture the event-associated structure information between two events. Experimental results on three widely used datasets show that SemSIn achieves significant improvements over baseline methods. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Many few-shot learning approaches have been designed under the meta-learning framework, which learns from a variety of learning tasks and generalizes to new tasks. These meta-learning approaches achieve the expected performance in the scenario where all samples are drawn from the same distributions (i.i.d. observations). However, in real-world applications, few-shot learning paradigm often suffers from data shift, i.e., samples in different tasks, even in the same task, could be drawn from various data distributions. Most existing few-shot learning approaches are not designed with the consideration of data shift, and thus show downgraded performance when data distribution shifts. However, it is non-trivial to address the data shift problem in few-shot learning, due to the limited number of labeled samples in each task. Targeting at addressing this problem, we propose a novel metric-based meta-learning framework to extract task-specific representations and task-shared representations with the help of knowledge graph. The data shift within/between tasks can thus be combated by the combination of task-shared and task-specific representations. The proposed model is evaluated on popular benchmarks and two constructed new challenging datasets. The evaluation results demonstrate its remarkable performance.

MVAM: Multi-View Attention Method for Fine-grained Image-Text Matching

Existing two-stream models, such as CLIP, encode images and text through independent representations, showing good performance while ensuring retrieval speed, have attracted attention from industry and academia. However, the single representation often struggles to capture complex content fully. Such models may ignore fine-grained information during matching, resulting in suboptimal retrieval results. To overcome this limitation and enhance the performance of two-stream models, we propose a Multi-View Atention Method (MVAM) for image-text matching. This approach leverages diverse attention heads with unique view codes to learn multiple representations for images and text, which are then concatenated for matching. We also incorporate a diversity objective to explicitly encourage attention heads to focus on distinct aspects of the input data, capturing complementary fine-grained details. This diversity enables the model to represent image-text pairs from multiple perspectives, ensuring a more comprehensive understanding and alignment of critical content. Our method allows models to encode images and text from different perspectives and focus on more critical details, leading to better matching performance. Our experiments on MSCOCO and Flickr30K demonstrate enhancements over existing models, and further case studies reveal that different attention heads can focus on distinct content, achieving more comprehensive representations. © 2024, CC BY.

Perturbation-Invariant Adversarial Training for Neural Ranking Models: Improving the Effectiveness-Robustness Trade-Off

Neural ranking models (NRMs) have shown great success in information retrieval (IR). But their predictions can easily be manipulated using adversarial examples, which are crafted by adding imperceptible perturbations to legitimate documents. This vulnerability raises significant concerns about their reliability and hinders the widespread deployment of NRMs. By incorporating adversarial examples into training data, adversarial training has become the de facto defense approach to adversarial attacks against NRMs. However, this defense mechanism is subject to a trade-off between effectiveness and adversarial robustness. In this study, we establish theoretical guarantees regarding the effectiveness-robustness tradeoff in NRMs. We decompose the robust ranking error into two components, i.e., a natural ranking error for effectiveness evaluation and a boundary ranking error for assessing adversarial robustness. Then, we define the perturbation invariance of a ranking model and prove it to be a differentiable upper bound on the boundary ranking error for attainable computation. Informed by our theoretical analysis, we design a novel perturbation-invariant adversarial training (PIAT) method for ranking models to achieve a better effectiveness-robustness trade-off. We design a regularized surrogate loss, in which one term encourages the effectiveness to be maximized while the regularization term encourages the output to be smooth, so as to improve adversarial robustness. U-Net is currently the most widely used architecture for medical image segmentation. Benefiting from its unique encoder-decoder architecture and skip connections, it can effectively extract features from input images to segment target regions. The commonly used U-Net is typically based on convolutional operations or Transformers, modeling the dependencies between local or global information to accomplish medical image analysis tasks. However, convolutional layers, fully connected layers, and attention mechanisms used in this process introduce a significant number of parameters, often requiring the stacking of network layers to model complex nonlinear relationships, which can impact the training process. To address these issues, we propose TransUKAN. Specifically, we have improved the KAN to reduce memory usage and computational load. On this basis, we explored an effective combination of KAN, Transformer, and U-Net structures. This approach enhances the model’s capability to capture nonlinear relationships by introducing only a small number of additional parameters and compensates for the Transformer structure’s deficiency in local information extraction. We validated TransUKAN on multiple medical image segmentation tasks. Experimental results demonstrate that TransUKAN achieves excellent performance with significantly reduced parameters. Large Language Models are Good Attackers: Efficient and Stealthy Textual Backdoor Attacks

With the burgeoning advancements in the field of natural language processing (NLP), the demand for training data has increased significantly. To save costs, it has become common for users and businesses to outsource the labor-intensive task of data collection to third-party entities. Unfortunately, recent research has unveiled the inherent risk associated with this practice, particularly in exposing NLP systems to potential backdoor attacks. Specifically, these attacks enable malicious control over the behavior of a trained model by poisoning a small portion of the training data. Unlike backdoor attacks in computer vision, textual backdoor attacks impose stringent requirements for attack stealthiness. However, existing attack methods meet significant trade-off between effectiveness and stealthiness, largely due to the high information entropy inherent in textual data. In this paper, we introduce the Efficient and Stealthy Textual backdoor attack method, EST-Bad, leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs). Our EST-Bad encompasses three core strategies: optimizing the inherent flaw of models as the trigger, stealthily injecting triggers with LLMs, and meticulously selecting the most impactful samples for backdoor injection. Through the integration of these techniques, EST-Bad demonstrates an efficient achievement of competitive attack performance while maintaining superior stealthiness compared to prior methods across various text classifier datasets. © 2024, CC BY.
