Table retrieval, essential for accessing information through tabular data, is less explored compared to text retrieval. The row/column structure and distinct fields of tables (including titles, headers, and cells) present unique challenges. For example, different table fields have varying matching preferences: cells may favor finer-grained (word/phrase level) matching over broader (sentence/passage level) matching due to their fragmented and detailed nature, unlike titles. This necessitates a table-specific retriever to accommodate the various matching needs of each table field. Therefore, we introduce a Table-tailored HYbrid Matching rEtriever (THYME), which approaches table retrieval from a field-aware hybrid matching perspective. Empirical results on two table retrieval benchmarks, NQ-TABLES and OTT-QA, show that THYME significantly outperforms state-of-the-art baselines. Generative retrieval represents a novel approach to information retrieval. It uses an encoder-decoder architecture to directly produce relevant document identifiers (doc-ids) for queries. While this method offers benefits, current approaches are limited to scenarios with binary relevance data, overlooking the potential for documents to have multi-graded relevance. Extending generative retrieval to accommodate multi-graded relevance poses challenges, including the need to reconcile likelihood probabilities for docid pairs and the possibility of multiple relevant documents sharing the same identifier. To address these challenges, we introduce a framework called GRaded Generative Retrieval (GR2). GR2 focuses on two key components: ensuring relevant and distinct identifiers, and implementing multi-graded constrained contrastive training. First, we create identifiers that are both semantically relevant and sufficiently distinct to represent individual documents effectively. This is achieved by jointly optimizing the relevance and distinctness of docids through a combination of docid generation and autoencoder models. Second, we incorporate information about the relationship between relevance grades to guide the training process. We use a constrained contrastive training strategy to bring the representations of queries and the identifiers of their relevant documents closer together, based on their respective relevance grades. Extensive experiments on datasets with both multi-graded and binary relevance demonstrate the effectiveness of GR2.

Towards Fully Exploiting LLM Internal States to Enhance Knowledge Boundary Perception

Large language models (LLMs) exhibit impressive performance across diverse tasks but often struggle to accurately gauge their knowledge boundaries, leading to confident yet incorrect responses. This paper explores leveraging LLMs’ internal states to enhance their perception of knowledge boundaries from efficiency and risk perspectives. We investigate whether LLMs can estimate their confidence using internal states before response generation, potentially saving computational resources. Our experiments on datasets like Natural Questions, HotpotQA, and MMLU reveal that LLMs demonstrate significant pre-generation perception, which is further refined post-generation, with perception gaps remaining stable across varying conditions. To mitigate risks in critical domains, we introduce Consistency-based Confidence Calibration (C3), which assesses confidence consistency through question reformulation. C3 significantly improves LLMs’ ability to recognize their knowledge gaps, enhancing the unknown perception rate by 5.6% on NQ and 4.9% on HotpotQA. Our findings suggest that pre-generation confidence estimation can optimize efficiency, while C3 effectively controls output risks, advancing the reliability of LLMs in practical applications © 2025, CC BY.

Nondestructive and noninvasive neutron assays are essential applications of neutron *** resonance transmission analysis(NRTA)is a powerful nondestructive method for investigating the elemental composition of an *** back-streaming neutron line(Back-n)is a newly built time-of-flight facility at the China Spallation Neutron Source(CSNS)that provides neutrons in the eV to 300 MeV range.A feasibility study of the NRTA method for nuclide identification was conducted at the CSNS Back-n via two test *** results demonstrate that it is feasible to identify different elements and isotopes in samples using the NRTA method at *** study reveals its potential future applications.

With the advancement of the Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, there has been a rapid increase in the volume of IoT data, leading to escalating costs in storage, transmission, and analytics. The benefits of conventional data deduplication schemes are diminishing when applied to IoT data that is similar but distinct, necessitating the development of new approaches to accommodate these new scenarios. This paper proposes a deduplication and approximate analytics scheme for encrypted IoT data in fog-assisted cloud storage. The scheme is based on Generalized Deduplication (GD), Message Locked Encryption (MLE), Homomorphic Encryption (HE), and ciphertext conversion techniques. We employ GD to divide similar but distinct IoT data into bases and deviations, and perform deduplication on the encrypted base to achieve efficient storage while protecting data privacy. Additionally, we utilize Hybrid Homomorphic Encryption (HHE) techniques to convert the symmetric ciphertext of IoT data into homomorphic ciphertext, facilitating approximate analytics while ensuring privacy protection of IoT data in fog-assisted cloud storage and reducing the computation overhead on IoT devices. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

WiFi-based technology is appealing for indoor localization due to the widely deployed infrastructures. Recently, path separation solutions have been proposed to address the multipath effects and achieve decimeter-level localization accuracy in line-of-sight (LoS) scenarios. However, these solutions experience serious performance degradation in non-line-of-sight (NLoS) scenarios, and couldn’t be used for mobile device tracking where continuous LoS/NLoS switching happens. In this paper, we propose SaTrack, a LoS/NLoS state-aware mobile device tracking system. SaTrack identifies LoS/NLoS states based on the diversity of the strongest estimated paths when using different reference antennas. With the observation of spatial aggregation and temporal continuity for the Tx-Rx direct path, SaTrack chooses the direct path through two-step clustering, i.e., clustering in the spatial domain to form candidates and clustering again in the temporal domain to select the winner. Extensive experiments are conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of SaTrack. In a typical indoor environment with abundant multipath, SaTrack achieves 0.64m and 1.27m for the median and 90th percentile tracking errors, outperforming the state-of-the-art (SOTA) solutions. © 2024 IEEE.

Federated learning has emerged as the forefront of research in recent years. However, its distributed framework poses a risk of a single point of failure in data research. Moreover, distinguishing malicious clients in the process of realizing personalized federated learning through client similarity is a critical concern. To overcome the aforementioned problems, we recommend a blockchain-based, dual-threshold personalized federated learning approach. Blockchain is used to replace the central server in the traditional federated learning framework. And we design a double-threshold-based malicious client screening algorithm, which achieves final malicious client identification by establishing screening criteria on both the blockchain side and the client side. The experimental findings demonstrate that the suggested technique maintains good accuracy and convergence even in the presence of malicious clients, compared to the FedAvg algorithm. © 2024 IEEE.

Nowadays, to provide stable video streaming and smooth user experience among different scenarios, more and more online video sharing and social media platforms adopt the Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH), which can transmit and play videos of appropriate quality levels according to the user's network conditions. For sake of illegal videos spreading on the platforms, the identification of encrypted DASH video streaming is of great importance. However, related works on the identification of encrypted DASH video streaming are seldom concerned with the streaming under poor network conditions that the video quality levels are switched relatively frequently. Therefore, we propose a novel video fingerprint extraction method as well as a novel multi-layer fuzzy matching scheme. So far as we know, we are the first to solve the identification of encrypted DASH video streaming under poor network conditions. And to reduce the overhead we establish a local video fingerprint database using the fingerprint extraction method. Our scheme can identify the encrypted DASH video streaming of frequently switched quality levels using very short-time network traffic sniffing. Experiments show that the time required for traffic sniffing is just 6 seconds and the accuracy exceeds 98%, which is significantly better than state-of-art methods. Besides, our scheme performs well on the identification of streaming in multiple scenarios. © 2022 ACM.

A Temporal Knowledge Graph (TKG) is a sequence of KGs with respective timestamps, which adopts quadruples in the form of (subject, relation, object, timestamp) to describe dynamic facts. TKG reasoning has facilitated many real-world applications via answering such queries as (query entity, query relation, ?, future timestamp) about future. This is actually a matching task between a query and candidate entities based on their historical structures, which reflect behavioral trends of the entities at different timestamps. In addition, recent KGs provide background knowledge of all the entities, which is also helpful for the matching. Thus, in this paper, we propose the Historical Structure Matching (HiSMatch) model. It applies two structure encoders to capture the semantic information contained in the historical structures of the query and candidate entities. Besides, it adopts another encoder to integrate the background knowledge into the model. TKG reasoning experiments on six benchmark datasets demonstrate the significant improvement of the proposed HiSMatch model, with up to 5.6% performance improvement in MRR, compared to the state-of-the-art baselines. © 2022 Association for Computational Linguistics.
