Sending-or-not-sending twin-field quantum key distribution: Breaking the direct transmission key rate

We present improved results of sending-or-not-sending twin-field quantum key distribution by using error rejection through two-way classical communications. Our error rejection method, especially our method of actively odd-parity pairing (AOPP) can drastically improve the performance of sending-or-not-sending twin-field protocol in both secure distance and key rate. Taking a typical experimental parameter setting, our method here improves the secure distance by 70 km to more than 100 km in comparison with the prior art results. Comparative study also shows advantageous in key rates at regime of long distance and large misalignment error rate for our method here. The numerical results show that our method here can significantly exceed the absolute limit of direct transmission key rate, and also have an advantageous key rates higher than various prior art results by 10 to 20 times.

Immunotherapy, especially immune checkpoint inhibitors, is becoming a promising treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC). However, the response rate remains limited due to the heterogeneity of HCC samples. Molecular subtypes of HCC vary in genomic background, clinical features, and prognosis. This study aims to compare the immune profiles between HCC subtypes and find subtype-specific immune characteristics that might contribute to the prognosis and potential of immunotherapy. The immune profiles consist of immune-related genes, cytolytic activity, immune pathways, and tumorinfiltrating lymphocytes. HCC-c1 samples showed an overall higher activation level of immune genes and pathways, and this pattern was consistent in validation sets. We associated the difference in immune profiles with the activation level of cancer hallmarks and genomic mutations. There was a negative correlation between most of the metabolism pathway and immune-related pathways in HCC samples. CTNNB1/WNT signaling pathway mutation, one of the common mutations in HCC, appears to be associated with the expression of immune genes as well. These results reveal the difference of immune profiles between HCC subtypes and possible reasons and influence, which may also deepen our understanding of the carcinogenesis process.

With the development of deep learning technologies, attribute recognition and person re-identification (re-ID) have attracted extensive attention and achieved continuous improvement via executing computing-intensive deep neural networks in cloud datacenters. However, the datacenter deployment cannot meet the real-time requirement of attribute recognition and person re-ID, due to the prohibitive delay of backhaul networks and large data transmissions from cameras to datacenters. A feasible solution thus is to employ mobile edge clouds (MEC) within the proximity of cameras and enable distributed inference. In this paper, we design novel models for pedestrian attribute recognition with re-ID in an MEC-enabled camera monitoring system. We also investigate the problem of distributed inference in the MEC-enabled camera network. To this end, we first propose a novel inference framework with a set of distributed modules, by jointly considering the attribute recognition and person re-ID. We then devise a learning-based algorithm for the distributions of the modules of the proposed distributed inference framework, considering the dynamic MEC-enabled camera network with uncertainties. 3D shape analysis is an important research topic in computer vision and graphics. While existing methods have generalized image-based deep learning to meshes using graph-based convolutions, the lack of an effective pooling operation restricts the learning capability of their networks. In this paper, we propose a novel pooling operation for mesh datasets with the same connectivity but different geometry, by building a mesh hierarchy using mesh simplification. For this purpose, we develop a modified mesh simplification method to avoid generating highly irregularly sized triangles. Our pooling operation effectively encodes the correspondence between coarser and finer meshes in the hierarchy. We then present a variational auto-encoder (VAE) structure with the edge contraction pooling and graph-based convolutions, to explore probability latent spaces of 3D surfaces and perform 3D shape generation. Our network requires far fewer parameters than the original mesh VAE and thus can handle denser models thanks to our new pooling operation and convolutional kernels. Our evaluation also shows that our method has better generalization ability and is more reliable in various applications, including shape generation and shape interpolation.

All primes can be indexed by k, as primes must be in the form of 6k+1 or 6k-1. In this paper, we explore for the set of k such that either 6k+1 or 6k-1 is not a prime. Our method provides a uniform formula for k that can sieve primes and twin primes as well. The uniform presents symmetry in terms of k that works as single index in sieving. We also propose a new conjecture that is equivalent to Twin Prime Conjecture but possibly be easier to approach by merely exploring of sole index in term of k. With the advancement of processor technology, general-purpose GPUs have become popular parallel computing accelerators in the cloud. However, designed for graphics rendering and high-performance computing, GPUs are born without sound security mechanisms. Consequently, the GPU-based service in the cloud is vulnerable to attacks from the potentially compromised guest OS as large amounts of sensitive code and data are offloaded directly to the unprotected *** this paper, we propose SEGIVE, a practical framework of secure GPU execution in the virtualization environment, which protects offloaded device code and data from disclosure or tampering by malicious guest OSes through the full life cycle of security-critical GPU applications. First, SEGIVE secures all the traffic transferred to GPUs with Intel SGX technology, including the users' sensitive data and GPU binaries. Second, with various memory isolation mechanisms, SEGIVE enhances security in multi-user execution scenarios by sharing a GPU among multiple workloads, which avoids underutilization of device resources. Besides, SEGIVE requires no modifications to application source codes, the GPU architecture, or I/O interconnection to fulfill security principles, and thus almost all prevailing GPU-based applications can easily benefit from SEGIVE with little porting effort. We have implemented SEGIVE with KVM-QEMU on off-the-shelf NVIDIA GPUs and CPUs. Evaluation results show that with security-enhances, the performance of SEGIVE prototype is still competitive to the native execution on compute-intensive applications, especially for the public-key cryptography algorithm.

Graph wavelet neural network

We present graph wavelet neural network (GWNN), a novel graph convolutional neural network (CNN), leveraging graph wavelet transform to address the shortcomings of previous spectral graph CNN methods that depend on graph Fourier transform. Different from graph Fourier transform, graph wavelet transform can be obtained via a fast algorithm without requiring matrix eigendecomposition with high computational cost. Moreover, graph wavelets are sparse and localized in vertex domain, offering high efficiency and good interpretability for graph convolution. The proposed GWNN significantly outperforms previous spectral graph CNNs in the task of graph-based semi-supervised classification on three benchmark datasets: Cora, Citeseer and Pubmed. Constructing a powerful photocatalytic system that can achieve the carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) reduction half-reaction and the water (H 2 O) oxidation half-reaction simultaneously is a very challenging but meaningful task. Herein, a porous material with a crystalline topological network, named viCOF-bpy-Re, was rationally synthesized by incorporating rhenium complexes as reductive sites and triazine ring structures as oxidative sites via robust −C=C− bond linkages. The charge-separation ability of viCOF-bpy-Re is promoted by low polarized π-bridges between rhenium complexes and triazine ring units, and the efficient charge-separation enables the photogenerated electron–hole pairs, followed by an intramolecular charge-transfer process, to form photogenerated electrons involved in CO 2 reduction and photogenerated holes that participate in H 2 O oxidation simultaneously. The viCOF-bpy-Re shows the highest catalytic photocatalytic carbon monoxide (CO) production rate (190.6 μmol g −1 h −1 with about 100 % selectivity) and oxygen (O 2 ) evolution (90.2 μmol g −1 h −1 ) among all the porous catalysts in CO 2 reduction with H 2 O as sacrificial agents. Therefore, a powerful photocatalytic system was successfully achieved, and this catalytic system exhibited excellent stability in the catalysis process for 50 hours. The structure–function relationship was confirmed by femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations.

The application of blockchain has moved beyond cryptocurrencies, to applications such as credentialing and smart contracts. The smart contract allows ones to achieve fair exchange for values without relying on a centralized entity. However, as the smart contract can be automatically executed with token transfers, an attacker can seek to exploit vulnerabilities in smart contracts for illicit profits. Thus, this paper proposes a support vector machine (SVM)-based scanning system for vulnerabilities on smart contracts. Our evaluation on Ethereum demonstrate that we achieve a identification rate of over 90% based on several popular attacks.
