Multi-exit network is a promising architecture for efficient model inference by sharing backbone networks and weights among multiple exits. However, the gradient conflict of the shared weights results in sub-optimal accuracy. This paper introduces Deep Feature Surgery (DFS), which consists of feature partitioning and feature referencing approaches to resolve gradient conflict issues during the training of multi-exit networks. The feature partitioning separates shared features along the depth axis among all exits to alleviate gradient conflict while simultaneously promoting joint optimization for each exit. Subsequently, feature referencing enhances multi-scale features for distinct exits across varying depths to improve the model accuracy. Furthermore, DFS reduces the training operations with the reduced complexity of backpropagation. Experimental results on Cifar100 and ImageNet datasets exhibit that DFS provides up to a 50.00% reduction in training time and attains up to a 6.94% enhancement in accuracy when contrasted with baseline methods across diverse models and tasks. Budgeted batch classification evaluation on MSDNet demonstrates that DFS uses about 2× fewer average FLOPs per image to achieve the same classification accuracy as baseline methods on Cifar100. The significance of intelligent sensing systems is growing in the realm of smart services. These systems extract relevant signal features and generate informative representations for particular tasks. However, building the feature extraction component for such systems requires extensive domain-specific expertise or data. The exceptionally rapid development of foundation models is likely to usher in newfound abilities in such intelligent sensing. We propose a new scheme for sensing model, which we refer to as semi-generalist sensing model (SGSM). SGSM is able to semiautomatically solve various tasks using relatively less task-specific labeled data compared to traditional systems. Built through the analysis of the common theoretical model, SGSM can depict different modalities, such as the acoustic and Wi-Fi signal. Experimental results on such two heterogeneous sensors illustrate that SGSM functions across a wide range of scenarios, thereby establishing its broad applicability. In some cases, SGSM even achieves better performance than sensor-specific specialized solutions. Wi-Fi evaluations indicate a 20% accuracy improvement when applying SGSM to an existing sensing model.

Complex Evolutional Pattern Learning for Temporal Knowledge Graph Reasoning

A Temporal Knowledge Graph (TKG) is a sequence of KGs corresponding to different timestamps. TKG reasoning aims to predict potential facts in the future given the historical KG sequences. One key of this task is to mine and understand evolutional patterns of facts from these sequences. The evolutional patterns are complex in two aspects, length-diversity and time-variability. Existing models for TKG reasoning focus on modeling fact sequences of a fixed length, which cannot discover complex evolutional patterns that vary in length. Furthermore, these models are all trained offline, which cannot well adapt to the changes of evolutional patterns from then on. Thus, we propose a new model, called Complex Evolutional network (CEN), which uses a length-aware Convolutional Neural network (CNN) to handle evolutional patterns of different lengths via an easy-to-difficult curriculum learning strategy. Besides, we propose to learn the model under the online setting so that it can adapt to the changes of evolutional patterns over time. Extensive experiments demonstrate that CEN obtains substantial performance improvement under both the traditional offline and the proposed online settings. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. When the multi-object tracking (MOT) algorithm confronts complex scenarios such as target occlusion and blurring, the trajectory missing and identity switching problems frequently occur. To address this issue, a trajectory association strategy for MOT is presented. First, using the similarity relationship between two frames, the similarity matrix is introduced to predict a more trustworthy offset vector and lower the number of Identity Switch. Then, a trajectory reconnection strategy is provided in order to retain a portion of the low-score detection frames due to occlusion and to perform secondary matching on the low-score detection frames in order to reduce missing trajectories. On a typical multi-object tracking dataset MOT17, experimental comparison study is performed with several known advanced algorithms, and MOTA and IDF1 achieve 67.9% and 67.8%, respectively. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm better solves the trajectory missing and identity switching problems, and achieves excellent tracking performance in complex scenarios. © 2023 ACM.

The social network-based recommendation model use social network information to mitigate data sparsity issues and improve the accuracy of recommendation models. However, In most social network-based recommendation algorithms, the social neighbors' contributions are difficult to distinguish from the central user's, neglecting hidden correlations in social infor-mation. In order to solve this problem, this paper presents a graph-based contrastive learning framework for social-enhanced recommendation (SoGCLR) that utilizes implicit social information captured by a new social relation attention mechanism, en-rich user representations, and improve model robustness through graph-based contrastive learning. Specifically, the paper captures the degree of contribution of each neighbor in the social graph to the central user through a social relation attention layer, thus obtaining hidden correlations in social information, and further integrates this with user information in the user-item interaction graph to enrich user representations. In addition, the paper incorporates graph-based contrastive learning into the recommendation task using cross-layer contrastive learning, calculating contrastive loss and mapping nodes with similar but different exposure rates to nearby regions to mitigate exposure bias issues. Results from Ciao and Epinions demonstrate that SoGCLR reduces RMSE and MAE by 1.33% to 1.84% compared with baseline models. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, we propose a constructive interference precoding (CIP) enabled secure intelligent reflecting surface (IRS)-non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) scheme, lever-aging both the inter-user interference and artificial noise to boost the legitimate transmission of far user, while inducing the eavesdropper to decode the deceptive information. Based on this CIP-NOMA scheme, we minimize the transmit power under the perfect channel state information (CSI), subject to the CIP constraint for the far user and eavesdropper, while guaranteeing the quality of service and successive interference cancellation for the near user and the IRS unit modulus constraint. To handle this non-convex problem, an alternating optimization algorithm is proposed. Specifically, by alternately optimizing the precoding vectors at the base station and the IRS reflecting matrix via the successive convex approximation and the penalty-based algorithm, respectively, a reliable solution can be obtained. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme can achieve better security performance with less energy consumption compared to the conventional NOMA. © 2024 IEEE.

Multimodal dialogue emotion recognition integrates data from multiple modalities to accurately identify emotional states in conversations. However, differences in expression and information density across modalities complicate the fusion of features. Traditional methods may introduce redundant information from other utterances, reducing the accuracy of emotion recognition. Existing one-hot labels often fail to capture the full range of emotional expressions, leading to biased results. To address these issues, we propose a model that fuses different modalities within the same utterance to avoid redundancy. It employs a progressive classification process, refining emotion recognition from coarse to fine granularity. Additionally, we use emotion polarity probabilities as weights for fine-grained classification and introduce a multimodal information-rich label that considers both the data and their interactions. Experiments on IEMOCAP and MELD datasets demonstrate the model’s effectiveness, significantly improving dialog emotion recognition accuracy. Our code is available at https://***/r/LOCG-188E.

A free-space-to-chip pipeline is proposed for the efficient transportation of single atoms from a magneto-optical trap to an on-chip evanescent-field trap. Due to the reflection of the dipole laser on the chip surface, the conventional conveyor-belt approach can transport only atoms in close proximity to the chip surface, with a distance of about one wavelength. This limitation hinders the efficient interaction between the atom and the on-chip waveguide devices. Here, a two-layer photonic chip architecture is proposed to realize a free-space-to-chip atom pipeline. By employing a diffraction beam of the integrated grating with an incident angle of the Brewster angle, the reflection of the dipole laser is suppressed, allowing the atoms to be brought to the chip surface with a distance of only 100nm. The pipeline is verified numerically and provides a reliable atom source for a hybrid photonic-atom chip.

At present, the research object of fault diagnosis focuses on single fault diagnosis. This method of diagnosis does not consider the relationship between mechanical equipment faults, and cannot fully identify the type of fault. In the actual industrial process, mechanical equipment is mostly complex system, and compound fault diagnosis is more in line with industrial needs. In order to solve the problem of compound fault diagnosis of mechanical equipment and improve the accuracy of fault identification, this paper establishes a compound fault diagnosis model for gearbox by means of multi-task learning, uses multi-gated networks to extract features from the task sharing layer, and finally classifies the fault through the task specific *** experimental results show that, the compound fault diagnosis method based on Multi-task Learning with Multi-gate Mixture-of-Experts (ML-MMoE) can accurately identify compound fault types under different working conditions. © 2022 IEEE

Software-defined radar has been an active research field for more than ten years. However, the low performance and low scalability of the traditional processing techniques of SDR make it hard to deal with complex radar tasks. The stream processing engine is a software that supports low latency and high scalability distributed data processing. It is widely used in log, image, and video processing scenarios but rarely used in radar applications. This paper reviews processing software-defined radar data by using the stream processing engine, and we illustrate the differences between processing log data and radar data. Furthermore, we discuss some optimizations for stream processing engines to get better performance in the radar data processing. © 2021 IEEE.
