This paper reports the repeat-pass interferometric SAR results of Gaofen-3, a Chinese civil SAR satellite, acquired in November 2016 and March 2017 from Ningbo area. With the spatial baseline about 600 m and time baseline 116 days, the coherence of the two images still achieve good enough to generate the digital elevation model (DEM). During the InSAR processing, we compared several baseline estimating methods and obtained a good flat-earth phase removed interferogram map. By using the latest SAR interferogram filter and phase unwrapping method we proposed, we improved the coherence up to 0.8 in urban area and obtained a high quality DEM in Ningbo area. In addition, we evaluated the elevation model by comparing with the elevation values extracted from SRTM. And the result shows that accuracy of the elevation map is about 5 m (RMS) in plane area and is about 22m (RMS) in mountainous region, which demonstrated that Gaofen-3 has the powerful ability of repeat-pass SAR Interferometry. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images are widely used in the field of remote sensing. To store and transmit the growing amount of SAR image data, more efficient compression algorithms are required. In this paper, a new framework for compressing SAR images is proposed based on deep learning. Firstly, we propose a new two-stage transformation based on low-frequency suppression of input data to achieve high information entropy and low quantization loss. To explore the redundancy between regions of interest and regions of non-interest, an image compression model for target perception is proposed to convert the input SAR image into a compact latent representation together with the target perception map. To evaluate the performance of the algorithm, we conducted experiments on SAR image dataset. The results show that the proposed algorithm is significantly better than the traditional processing algorithm in terms of data input, and can effectively preserve and improve the performance of the image compression model. © ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2024.

Visual tracking can be easily disturbed by similar surrounding objects. Such objects as hard distractors, even though being the minority among negative samples, increase the risk of target drift and model corruption, which deserve additional attention in online tracking and model update. To enhance the tracking robustness, in this paper, we propose a cascaded regression tracker with two sequential stages. In the first stage, we filter out abundant easily-identified negative candidates via an efficient convolutional regression. In the second stage, a discrete sampling based ridge regression is designed to double-check the remaining ambiguous hard samples, which serves as an alternative of fully-connected layers and benefits from the closed-form solver for efficient learning. During the model update, we utilize the hard negative mining technique and an adaptive ridge regression scheme to improve the discrimination capability of the second-stage regressor. Extensive experiments are conducted on 11 challenging tracking benchmarks including OTB-2013, OTB-2015, VOT2018, VOT2019, UAV123, Temple-Color, NfS, TrackingNet, LaSOT, UAV20L, and OxUvA. The proposed method achieves state-of-the-art performance on prevalent benchmarks, while running in a real-time speed. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The edges of the shadow region are blurred in the SAR image due to the moving of the radar during data collection. This phenomenon becomes obvious in the High Resolution SAR images. Shadow enhancement is of great value for ATR especially when the scattering centers of the target itself are not clear. In this paper, an approach for shadow enhancement in the SAR images for targets with plat structures is presented. And experiments on the Mini-SAR data test the validity of the approach.

Cooperative relaying is considered as an effective method to improve the secrecy performance of wireless communications. However, the existing relay selection strategies do not consider the channel correlations between the main and eavesdropping links which limits the secrecy performance. In this paper, the authors explore how to select relay under correlated fading channels in a multiple decode-and-forward (DF) relay network. To this end, the authors adopt the minimum mean squared error (MMSE) method to estimate the channel state information (CSI) of relay-eavesdropper link based on the channel correlation and then propose the single-relay selection (SRS) strategy. Simulation results show that the proposed SRS strategy outperforms other SRS strategies significantly. To further improve the secrecy performance of the DF system, we propose a novel multiple-relay selection (MRS) method for correlated channels taking advantage of estimating the relay-eavesdropper channel. Results show that our MRS strategy performs better than its SRS version and other MRS strategies. We also find that the our MRS strategy gets more performance gain than other strategies with the number of relays increases indicating the effectiveness of estimating the eavesdropping channel in secure relaying. © 2019 Association for Computing Machinery.

Subpixel-based downsampling has shown its advantages over pixel-based downsampling in terms of preserving more spatial details along edges and generating sharper images, at the cost of certain amount of color-fringing artifacts in the downsampled image. To balance the sharpness and color-fringing artifacts, some algorithms are proposed to design optimal anti-aliasing (AA) filters, which are either image independent, or computationally too expensive. And all of the existing AA filters are designed for fixed downsampling factor, which makes them impractical for real applications. In this paper we propose two fast algorithms to design AA filter for arbitrary factor subpixel downsampling based on frequency analysis of the input image. The proposed algorithms generate image dependent AA filter which is as good as the state-of-the-art algorithm, but much faster.

A simple topographic correction method based on smoothed terrain is proposed in this paper. The main idea of the new method is smoothing the slope angle of terrain in the first place and then performing the cosine correction based on the smoothed terrain. The smoothing effect on the terrain is significant in forested mountainous areas and a model is proposed to explain the effect physically. A comparison is conducted among the new method and several other common methods like C, SCS, Minnaert corrections using Landsat-7 ETM+ data in Shanxi Province in China. Visual analysis and statistical analysis are adopted to assess the performance of these methods from two aspects: overcorrection, homogeneity within a land cover class. Comparison results indicate that the smoothing step can significantly reduce the overcorrection and the performance of the new method is on the same level with C correction. The new method does not require any training data from image to obtain parameters and proves to be an effective and simple method in forested areas.

Temporal Context Mining for Learned Video Compression

Applying deep learning to video compression has attracted increasing attention in recent few years. In this work, we address end-to-end learned video compression with a special focus on better learning and utilizing temporal contexts. We propose to propagate not only the last reconstructed frame but also the feature before obtaining the reconstructed frame for temporal context mining. From the propagated feature, we learn multi-scale temporal contexts and re-fill the learned temporal contexts into the modules of our compression scheme, including the contextual encoder-decoder, the frame generator, and the temporal context encoder. We discard the parallelizationunfriendly auto-regressive entropy model to pursue a more practical encoding and decoding time. Experimental results show that our proposed scheme achieves a higher compression ratio than the existing learned video codecs. Our scheme also outperforms x264 and x265 (representing industrial software for H.264 and H.265, respectively) as well as the official reference software for H.264, H.265, and H.266 (JM, HM, and VTM, respectively). Specifically, when intra period is 32 and oriented to PSNR, our scheme outperforms H.265-HM by 14.4% bit rate saving;when oriented to MS-SSIM, our scheme outperforms H.266-VTM by 21.1% bit rate saving. Large Language Models are Good Attackers: Efficient and Stealthy Textual Backdoor Attacks

With the burgeoning advancements in the field of natural language processing (NLP), the demand for training data has increased significantly. To save costs, it has become common for users and businesses to outsource the labor-intensive task of data collection to third-party entities. Unfortunately, recent research has unveiled the inherent risk associated with this practice, particularly in exposing NLP systems to potential backdoor attacks. Specifically, these attacks enable malicious control over the behavior of a trained model by poisoning a small portion of the training data. Unlike backdoor attacks in computer vision, textual backdoor attacks impose stringent requirements for attack stealthiness. However, existing attack methods meet significant trade-off between effectiveness and stealthiness, largely due to the high information entropy inherent in textual data. In this paper, we introduce the Efficient and Stealthy Textual backdoor attack method, EST-Bad, leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs). Our EST-Bad encompasses three core strategies: optimizing the inherent flaw of models as the trigger, stealthily injecting triggers with LLMs, and meticulously selecting the most impactful samples for backdoor injection. Through the integration of these techniques, EST-Bad demonstrates an efficient achievement of competitive attack performance while maintaining superior stealthiness compared to prior methods across various text classifier datasets. © 2024, CC BY.

Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging under the sparse constraint is a developing SAR imaging scheme that emerged in the recent decade. In sparse SAR imaging, the sparsity can be regarded as a priori information, used to enhance different types of imaging features, among which `1-norm and the total variation (TV)-norm are two widely used constraints in the reconstruction model corresponding to the features of point targets and distributed targets respectively. However, `1 regularization often generates a biased estimation and the TV regularization always over-smooths isolated point targets in the scene. In this paper, we propose the nonconvex-nonlocal total variation (NLTV) regularization, which can realize the joint feature enhancement of sparse SAR imaging. The modified variable splitting-Alternating direction method of multipliers (VS-ADMM) is introduced to solve the compound regularization.
