There exit high variations among nano-devices in nano-electronic systems, owing to the extremely small size and the bottom-up self-assembly nanofabrication process. Therefore, it is important to develop logical function mapping techniques with the consideration of variation tolerance. In this paper, the variation tolerant logical mapping (VTLM) problem is treated as a multiobjective optimization problem (MOP), a hybridization of Nondominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II (NSGA-II) with a problem-specific local search is presented to solve the problem. The experiment results show that with the assistance of the problem-specific local search, the presented algorithm is effective, and can find better solutions than that without the local search.

In many image-related tasks, learning expressive and discriminative representations of images is essential, and deep learning has been studied for automating the learning of such representations. Some user-centric tasks, such as image recommendations, call for effective representations of not only images but also preferences and intents of users over images. Such representations are termed hybrid and addressed via a deep learning approach in this paper. We design a dual-net deep network, in which the two subnetworks map input images and preferences of users into a same latent semantic space, and then the distances between images and users in the latent space are calculated to make decisions. We further propose a comparative deep learning (CDL) method to train the deep network, using a pair of images compared against one user to learn the pattern of their relative distances. The CDL embraces much more training data than naive deep learning, and thus achieves superior performance than the latter, with no cost of increasing network complexity. Experimental results with real-world data sets for image recommendations have shown the proposed dual-net network and CDL greatly outperform other stateof-the-art image recommendation solutions.

We study the problem of recognizing sign language automatically using the RGB videos and skeleton coordinates captured by Kinect, which is of great significance in communication between the deaf and the hearing societies. In this paper, we propose a sign language recognition (SLR) system with data of two channels, including the gesture videos of the sign words and joint trajectories. In our framework, we extract two modals of features to represent the hand shape videos and hand trajectories for recognition. The variation of gesture is obtained by 3D CNN and the activations of fully connected layers are used as the representations of these sign videos. For trajectories, we use the shape context to describe each joint, and combine them all within a feature matrix. After that, a convolutional neural network is applied to generate a robust representation of these trajectories. Furthermore, we fuse these features and train a SVM classifier for recognition. We conduct some experiments on large vocabulary sign language dataset with up to 500 words and the results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method. © Springer International Publishing AG 2016.

Automatic image annotation has been extensively studied, mostly from a content-based approach, whose effectiveness is restricted by the 'semantic gap' between low-level image features and semantic annotations, and by the irrelevance of annotations to image content. We propose a social diffusion analysis approach to image annotation, which exploits abundant social diffusion records about how images are disseminated within online social networks. Specifically, we propose a common-interest model to analyze social diffusion records, with the assumption that the diffusion pattern of an image in social networks is highly related to the relevance between image annotations and user preferences. In our proposed model, user preferences are represented as common interests of pairwise users instead of individual user interests. We find the notion of common interests not only facilitates the analysis of social diffusion patterns, but also leads to more accurate profiling of user preferences compared to individual interests. Based on the common-interest model, we design an image annotation framework via social diffusion analysis, which consists of the mining of common interests from social diffusion records, the feature extraction from diffusion graphs and common interests, and the automatic annotation by the learning-to-rank method. Experimental results on real-world data sets show that our proposed common-interest based approach outperforms individual-interest based methods, and also achieves superior performance than state-of-the-art content-based image annotation methods. © 2016 IEEE.

BURST-LDA: A NEW TOPIC MODEL FOR DETECTING BURSTY TOPICS FROM STREAM TEXT

Topic models such as Latent Dirichlet Allocation(LDA) have been successfully applied to many text mining tasks for extracting topics embedded in corpora. However, existing topic models generally cannot discover bursty topics that experience a sudden increase during a period of time. In this paper, we propose a new topic model named Burst-LDA, which simultaneously discovers topics and reveals their burstiness through explicitly modeling each topic's burst states with a first order Markov chain and using the chain to generate the topic proportion of documents in a Logistic Normal fashion. A Gibbs sampling algorithm is developed for the posterior inference of the proposed model. Experimental results on a news data set show our model can efficiently discover bursty topics, outperforming the state-of-the-art method.

This paper presents a non-parametric topic model that captures not only the latent topics in text collections, but also how the topics change over space. Unlike other recent work that relies on either Gaussian assumptions or discretization of locations, here topics are associated with a distance dependent Chinese Restaurant Process(ddC RP), and for each document, the observed words are influenced by the document's GPS-tag. Our model allows both unbound number and flexible distribution of the geographical variations of the topics' content. We develop a Gibbs sampler for the proposal, and compare it with existing models on a real data set basis.

Non-negative matrix factorization(NMF) has been widely used in mixture analysis for hyperspectral remote sensing. When used for spectral unmixing analysis, however, it has two main shortcomings:(1) since the dimensionality of hyperspectral data is usually very large, NMF tends to suffer from large computational complexity for the popular multiplicative iteration rule;(2) NMF is sensitive to noise(outliers), and thus the corrupted data will make the results of NMF meaningless. Although principal component analysis(PCA) can be used to mitigate these two problems, the transformed data will contain negative numbers, hindering the direct use of the multiplicative iteration rule of NMF. In this paper, we analyze the impact of PCA on NMF, and find that multiplicative NMF can also be applicable to data after principal component transformation. Based on this conclusion, we present a method to perform NMF in the principal component space, named ‘principal component NMF'(PCNMF). Experimental results show that PCNMF is both accurate and time-saving.

The ambiguous Doppler centroid causes incorrect estimation result of the radial velocity. For moving targets with fast radial velocity, an unambiguous estimation approach of the radial velocity is introduced for the airborne SAR system in this paper. First, two channels carried different wavelength can be constructed by range multilook processing (RMLP). Second, the instantaneous frequency curve of the moving target is obtained by polynomial fitting for each channel, where the linear term denotes the baseband Doppler centroid. Considering the fact that the difference of the estimated baseband Doppler centroid in two channels is equal to the difference of the absolute Doppler centroid, the unambiguous radial velocity can be estimated using it. Third, the range walk and the Doppler shift which are produced by the fast radial velocity can be eliminated by compensating a phase in the range-frequency and azimuth-time domain. As a result, the moving target will be reimaged and relocated after azimuth compression. The proposed approach will be applied to both single- and multi-channel SAR system. The simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2011 KIEES.

To conserve and manage wetland resources, it is important to map wetlands and monitor their changes. However, wetland mapping is difficult because of spectral confusion with other landcover classes and spectral variability among different types of wetlands. This paper demonstrated a multi-source based approach for improving the accuracy of wetland mapping. According to the formation of wetland, variables derived from multi-source image date, and other ancillary GIS layers were first integrated to create the possible region for wetland (PRW). And then classification was conducted within the PRW to map wetlands. PRW could greatly reduce the amount of other land cover classes that participated in the classification, therefore reducing both the difficulty of wetland mapping and the commission error rate. In this study, we chose the test area in Dongzhai Harbor, Hainan Island, China, where the main wetland type is mangrove. The mapping was based on LANDSAT TM/ETM+ imagery combined with DEM data, and the ancillary GIS data included available water, soil and vegetation layers. The thematic accuracy of the mapping was assessed using highresolution images from Google Earth and local wetlands databases. Classification of the 2001 Landsat ETM+ scene alone resulted in consumer's accuracy of 65% and Kappa coefficients of 0.69, whereas the multi-source based approach with the same training samples resulted in an accuracy of 86% and 0.80. The developed method is portable, relatively easy to implement, and should be applicable in other landcover classes and over larger extents. © 2011 IEEE.

IMPROVED CALIBRATION METHOD FOR AIRBORNE ATI-SAR BASELINE

Airborne Along-Track Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (ATI-SAR) baseline error is a main error resource affecting the precision of velocity measurement of moving objects and therefore should be calibrated externally. The Jet Propulsion laboratory (JPL) has proposed a calibration scheme for tasks of PacRim98 and PacRim2000 based on several static objects on the ground. In this paper, the influence of phase center uncertainty on baseline determination by using PacRim method proposed by JPL is analyzed. According to the analysis, the phase center uncertainty can cause a constant part of error to the result of baseline calibration. In order to deal with this problem, an improved calibration method on the basis of sensitivity equations and some ground moving targets, whose velocities are already known, is proposed in this paper. The simulation results show that our proposed calibration method has improved the accuracy of baseline calibration and has obviously prohibited the effect of antennas' phase center uncertainty.
