In this paper, we present an end-to-end video compression network for P-frame challenge on CLIC. We focus on deep neural network (DNN) based video compression, and improve the current frameworks from three aspects. First, we notice that pixel space residuals is sensitive to the prediction errors of optical flow based motion compensation. To suppress the relative influence, we propose to compress the residuals of image feature rather than the residuals of image pixels. Furthermore, we combine the advantages of both pixel-level and feature-level residual compression methods by model ensembling. Finally, we propose a step-by-step training strategy to improve the training efficiency of the whole framework. Experiment results indicate that our proposed method achieves 0.9968 MS-SSIM on CLIC validation set and 0.9967 MS-SSIM on test set.

Low-poly style illustrations, which have 3D abstract appearance, have become a popular stylish recently. Most previous methods require special knowledges in 3D modeling and need tedious interactions. We present an interactive system for non-expert users to easily manipulate the low-poly style illustration. Our system consists of two parts: vertex sampling and mesh rendering. In the vertex sampling stage, we extract a set of candidate points from the image and rank them according to their importance of structure preserving using adaptive thinning. Based on the pre-ranked point list, the user can select an arbitrary number of vertices for the triangle mesh construction. In the mesh rendering stage, we optimize triangle colors to create stereo-looking low-polys. We also provide three tools for exible modication of vertex numbers, color contrast, and local region emphasis. The experiment results demonstrate that our system outperforms state-of-the-art method via simple user interactions.

In this paper, we consider video communication over fading channel, where the perfect instantaneous channel state information (CSI) is available at both sender and receiver. Most of existing coding schemes are inefficient in this communication scenario. The reason is that for digital coding scheme, it has high coding efficiency but unavoidably leads to the cliff effect;while for analog scheme, it has graceful video quality variation with channel varying, but has low coding efficiency. Hence, to integrate the advantages of digital coding and analog coding, we propose a hybrid digital-analog (HDA) scheme. In our scheme, we have adopted adaptive power allocation and adaptive forward error coding (FEC) in digital part to accommodate instantaneous channel quality. The evaluation results show that the proposed HDA scheme outperforms Parcast (a state-of-the-art analog scheme) 0.3~2.2dB under the channel Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) from 3dB to 20dB.

Part-based trackers have achieved promising performance in many tracking tasks. However, most part-based trackers use the same feature representation for all parts and simply combine them together to form an integral representation for the tracking target. It may not guarantee that all parts of the tracking target can well distinguish the foreground from the background. Better performance is expected by exploring different feature representations on different parts of the tracking target. In this paper, following the framework of the classic Compressive Tracker (CT), we model each part of the target adaptively by using a multi-dimensional color representation. By using color name, we select the color feature presentation that best distinguishes the foreground from background. In order to better handle deformation and illumination change, we use multi-Gaussian to model different appearance changes of the tracking target. Both qualitative and quantitative evaluations demonstrate that the proposed method makes a consistent performance improvement compared with the conventional Compressive Tracker on tracking benchmark dataset. Besides, it also outperforms many state-of-the-art trackers while running at averagely 20 frames per second (FPS).

This paper presents a new Synthetic Aperture Radar（SAR） Automatic Target Recognition（ATR） method based on slow feature analysis. Slow feature analysis（SFA） is a method for learning invariant or slowly varying features from multi-dimensional input signal. The SFA-based SAR ATR system does not require any pre-processing, such as filtering or pose estimation of the image. The performance of the method is evaluated via three classification experiments on Moving and Stationary Target Acquisition and Recognition（MSTAR） database. The experiment results show the effectiveness of the proposed method on SAR ATR problem.

Transmit distortions in the hybrid polarimetric (HP) SAR cannot be compensated simply with external calibration methods. Therefore, it is necessary to analysis their influence on HP data. In this study, we have proposed an analysis method based on the Axial Ratio (AR) of the real transmitted polarized wave. Firstly, impact of different distortion sources is quantified with the AR parameter. Next, a case study is illustrated using real GF-3 measured data. At last, the influence of transmit distortions to canonical scattering mechanisms is analyzed. © 2019 IEEE.

Multi-scale grouped dense network for VVC intra coding

Versatile Video Coding (H.266/VVC) standard achieves better image quality when keeping the same bits than any other conventional image codec, such as BPG, JPEG, and etc. However, it is still attractive and challenging to improve the image quality with high compression ratio on the basis of traditional coding techniques. In this paper, we design the multi-scale grouped dense network (MSGDN) to further reduce the compression artifacts by combining the multi-scale and grouped dense block, which are integrated as the post-process network of VVC intra coding. Besides, to improve the subjective quality of compressed image, we also present a generative adversarial network (MSGDN-GAN) by utilizing our MSGDN as generator. Across the extensive experiments on validation set, our MSGDN trained by MSE losses yields the PSNR of 32.622 on average with teams"IMC" and"haha" at the bit-rate of 0.15 in Low-rate track. Moreover, our MSGDN-GAN could achieve the better subjective performance. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This article presents a novel efficient method for gridless line spectrum estimation problems with single snapshot and sparse signals, namely the gradient descent least-squares (GDLS) method. Conventional single-snapshot (a.k.a. single-measure vector or SMV) line spectrum estimation methods either rely on smoothing techniques that sacrifice the range and/or azimuth resolution or adopt the sparsity constraint and utilize the compressed sensing (CS) method by defining prior grids and resulting in the off-grid problem. Recently emerged atomic norm minimization (ANM) methods achieved gridless SMV line spectrum estimation, but its computational complexity is extremely high;thus, it is practically infeasible in real applications with large problem scales. Our proposed GDLS method reformulates the line spectrum estimations problem into a least-squares (LSs) estimation problem and solves the corresponding objective function via a gradient descent algorithm in an iterative fashion with efficiency. The convergence guarantee, computational complexity, and performance analysis for evenly distributed antenna array cases are discussed in this article. Numerical simulations show that the proposed GDLS algorithm outperforms the state-of-the-art methods, for example, CS and ANM, in terms of estimation performances. It can completely avoid the off-grid problem, and its computational complexity is significantly lower than ANM. Our method has been tested in tomographic SAR (TomoSAR) imaging applications via simulated and real experimental data. Results show the great potential of the proposed method in terms of better cloud point performance and eliminating the gridding effect. © 1980-2012 IEEE.

For moving targets in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images, the obvious features are defocusing and dislocation. To estimate motion parameters accurately is a premise for the precise imaging of moving targets. However, when the radial velocity of the target exceeds the maximum detectable unambiguous velocity, the estimated value by the existing methods is no longer the real value. A radial velocity ambiguity resolution method based on Imaging Space-Time Adaptive processing (ISTAP) is proposed in this paper. The proposed method has no search or iterative process and is suitable for the azimuth multichannel SAR with low pulse repetition frequency (PRF). Finally, the simulated data from an x-band azimuth six-channel SAR system verify the feasibility of the proposed method. © 2021 IEEE.

Interpreting the Latent Space of GANs via Measuring Decoupling

With the success of generative adversarial networks (GANs) on various real-world applications, the controllability and security of GANs have raised more and more concerns from the community. Specifically, understanding the latent space of GANs, i.e., obtaining the completely decoupled latent space, is essential for applications in some secure scenarios. At present, there is no quantitative method to measure the decoupling of latent space, which is not conducive to the development of the community. In this article, we propose two methods to measure the sensitivity of latent dimensions: one is a sequential intervention method, and the other is an optimization-based method that measures the sensitivity in both the value and the direction. With these two methods, the decoupling of latent space can be measured by the sparsity of the sensitivity vector obtained. The effectiveness of the proposed methods has been verified by experiments on the representative GANs. Code will be available at https://***/iceli1007/latent-analysis-of. Impact Statement-Generative adversarial networks (GANs) is a popular technology in image generation. Benefiting from the development of neural networks, GANs have been widely used in many real-world tasks, such as super-resolution, image translation, and image inpainting. However, the understanding of the generator in GANs as a map from latent space (represented in a multidimensional vector) to image space is incomplete. To make better use of GANs, more insight into the generation process is required. The motivation of this article is to develop methods to analyze the influence of each dimension of latent space on the generated results, and to measure the decoupling of latent space, the knowledge obtained will be useful for the development of more precise controllable image generation technology. © 2021 IEEE.
