How to get an accurate image of multi-class targets scene is the key to synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging research. In sparse SAR imaging, compound regularization constrains multi-class target features by setting multiple regularizations prior to the model. However, the solution method based on a traditional iterative algorithm needs to set parameters manually and has a large number of iterations. In this paper, a novel SAR imaging method for the l1 norm and the total variation (TV) compound regularization based on a deep unfolding network (DUN) is proposed. The l1 norm and TV compound regularization can promote the sparsity and despeckle at the same time. Besides, the deep unfolded network can learn iteration parameters in a data-driven manner to speed up convergence. Finally, real SAR data experiments can verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. © The Institution of Engineering & technology 2023.

Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have made tremendous success in optical images classification recently. However, in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) target classification, it is difficult to annotate a large amount of real SAR images to train CNNs. Sufficient annotated images can be easily obtained through simulation, but the disparity between the simulated images and the real images makes them difficult to directly apply to the real images classification. In this paper, we propose a model that integrates multi-kernel maximum mean discrepancy (MK-MMD) and domain-adversarial training to alleviate this problem. Simulated SAR images with annotation and unlabeled real SAR images are used to train our model. First, we use domain-adversarial training to prompt the model to extract domain-invariant features. Then, the MK-MMD between the hidden representations of simulated images and real images is reduced to narrow domain discrepancy. Experimental results on the real SAR dataset demonstrate that our method effectively solves the domain shift problem and improves the classification accuracy. © 2021 IEEE.

The paper analyzes the effects of the orbit position errors in terms of the geometric accuracy of the space-borne SAR based on the range-Doppler method. The paper gives the simulation experiment results of the space-borne SAR geometric accuracy using DORIS, GPS and MADRAS. The results show the space-borne SAR geometric accuracy is 1 meter using DORIS, 80 meter higher than using MADRAS, and 50 meter higher than using GPS.

Deep learning algorithms are widely used in SAR target detection. At present, most detection methods based on neural networks treat SAR images as optical images for processing, and do not fully exploit the characteristics of SAR images. In this paper, a method for feature enhancement using sub-aperture decomposition is proposed. Considering the advantages of the rotate box in eliminating interference, we conducted experiments on the rotating frame detection network Rotate RetinaNet using the Complex SAR images Rotation Ship Detection Dataset (CSRSDD). Compared with the base method, AP improves by 2.4% without bells and whistles. The results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2021 IEEE

Towards a better match in siamese network based visual object tracker

Recently, Siamese network based trackers have received tremendous interest for their fast tracking speed and high performance. Despite the great success, this tracking framework still suffers from several limitations. First, it cannot properly handle large object rotation. Second, tracking gets easily distracted when the background contains salient objects. In this paper, we propose two simple yet effective mechanisms, namely angle estimation and spatial masking, to address these issues. The objective is to extract more representative features so that a better match can be obtained between the same object from different frames. The resulting tracker, named Siam-BM, not only significantly improves the tracking performance, but more importantly maintains the realtime capability. Evaluations on the VOT2017 dataset show that Siam-BM achieves an EAO of 0.335, which makes it the best-performing realtime tracker to date. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. All rights reserved.

A twofold siamese network for real-time object tracking

Observing that Semantic features learned in an image classification task and Appearance features learned in a similarity matching task complement each other, we build a twofold Siamese network, named SA-Siam, for real-time object tracking. SA-Siam is composed of a semantic branch and an appearance branch. Each branch is a similarity-learning Siamese network. An important design choice in SA-Siam is to separately train the two branches to keep the heterogeneity of the two types of features. In addition, we propose a channel attention mechanism for the semantic branch. Channel-wise weights are computed according to the channel activations around the target position. While the inherited architecture from SiamFC [3] allows our tracker to operate beyond real-time, the twofold design and the attention mechanism significantly improve the tracking performance. The proposed SA-Siam outperforms all other real-time trackers by a large margin on OTB-2013/50/100 benchmarks. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In this paper, we propose a cooperative video transmission scheme in D2D networks. This research is motivated by the growing interests in hybrid digital-analog video transmissions and device-to-device (D2D) communications. The framework of D2D communications can be generally modeled as a three-node network. In this network, coset coding is used to allow the destination to exploit the correlations between the video signals received in two phases. We have done some work of further optimization to improve the video quality at destination in this network. First, we derive a closed form of the reconstruction error at the destination. This provides a theoretical foundation for finding the optimal quantization step size in coset coding. Then, based on the accurate analysis on the coset coding we design a new power allocation algorithm. Experimental results verify that our scheme outperforms the recently proposed WCVC and DCVC.

Compressed sensing (CS) has recently attracted much interest for its ability to recovery a sparse signal with very limited number of samples. In this paper, we adapt this idea and present a framework of high-resolution ISAR imaging based on antenna array. During the framework, linear antenna array is analyzed and compared with different conventional algorithms. Numerical simulation results confirmed the validity of the proposed algorithm. © 2011 IEEE.

Social networks nowadays have become an important form of communication in which users can post their current status or share their lives by mobile phones or the Web. In this paper, we develop an effective and efficient model to estimate continuous tie strength between users for friend recommendation with the heterogeneous data from social media community. We categorize those multimodal data into two classes: interaction data (e.g., comments, marking favorite photos) and similarity data(e.g., common friends, groups, tags, geo, visual). We propose to use asymmetric relationship in the interaction data for tie strength estimation instead of using the conventional symmetric ones. Furthermore, by exploring the behavior of users in a social media community, we find that the tie strength between users can be approximately modeled as a linear function of their social connections. Based on this observation, we propose an effective and highly efficient user specific linear model for the tie strength estimation. The experiments on a popular social network show promising results and demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method.

Fractional-pixel interpolation has been widely used in the modern video coding standards to improve the accuracy of motion compensated prediction. Traditional interpolation filters are designed based on the signal processing theory. However, video signal is non-stationary, making the traditional methods less effective. In this paper, we reveal that the interpolation filter can not only generate the fractional pixels from the integer pixels, but also reconstruct the integer pixels from the fractional ones. This property is called invertibility. Inspired by the invertibility of fractional-pixel interpolation, we propose an end-to-end scheme based on convolutional neural network (CNN) to derive the invertible interpolation filter, termed CNNInvIF. CNNlnvIF does not need the “ground-truth” of fractional pixels for training. Experimental results show that the proposed CNNInvIF can achieve up to 4.6% and on average 2.2% BD-rate reduction than HEVC under the low-delay P configuration.
