In this paper, we introduce Adversarial-and-attention Network (A3Net) for Machine Reading Comprehension. This model extends existing approaches from two perspectives. First, adversarial training is applied to several target variables within the model, rather than only to the inputs or embeddings. We control the norm of adversarial perturbations according to the norm of original target variables, so that we can jointly add perturbations to several target variables during training. As an effective regularization method, adversarial training improves robustness and generalization of our model. Second, we propose a multi-layer attention network utilizing three kinds of high-efficiency attention mechanisms. Multi-layer attention conducts interaction between question and passage within each layer, which contributes to reasonable representation and understanding of the model. Combining these two contributions, we enhance the diversity of dataset and the information extracting ability of the model at the same time. Meanwhile, we construct A3Net for the WebQA dataset. Results show that our model outperforms the state-of-the-art models (improving Fuzzy Score from 73.50% to 77.0%). Copyright © 2018, The Authors. All rights reserved.

TOPSAR is an earth-imaging technique, which can provide wide swath coverage. The paper introduces a TOPSAR focusing and calibrating experiment based on the TOPSAR data acquired by Gaofen3(GF3). In this paper, we firstly derive the processor calibration factors under the demands of keeping signal energy invariant. After that, we fully analyze the impact of antenna electronic steering on TOPSAR products. Aimed to be applied to TOPSAR mode processing system of a SAR satellite, the next generation of GF3, calibration methods to processor and electronic steering was proposed in this paper. © 2019 IEEE.

For chroma intra prediction, previous methods exemplified by the Linear Model method (LM) usually assume a linear correlation between the luma and chroma components in a coding block. This assumption is inaccurate for complex image content or large blocks, and restricts the prediction accuracy. In this paper, we propose a chroma intra prediction method by exploiting both spatial and cross-channel correlations using a hybrid neural network. Specifically, we utilize a convolutional neural network to extract features from the reconstructed luma samples of the current block, as well as utilize a fully connected network to extract features from the neighboring reconstructed luma and chroma samples. The extracted twofold features are then fused to predict the chroma samples-Cb and Cr simultaneously. The proposed chroma intra prediction method is integrated into HEVC. Preliminary results show that, compared with HEVC plus LM, the proposed method achieves on average 0.2%, 3.1% and 2.0% BD-rate reduction on Y, Cb and Cr components, respectively, under All-Intra configuration.

DeepEraser: Deep Iterative Context Mining for Generic Text Eraser

In this work, we present DeepEraser, an effective deep network for generic text removal. DeepEraser utilizes a recurrent architecture that erases the text in an image via iterative operations. Our idea comes from the process of erasing pencil script, where the text area designated for removal is subject to continuous monitoring and the text is attenuated progressively, ensuring a thorough and clean erasure. Technically, at each iteration, an innovative erasing module is deployed, which not only explicitly aggregates the previous erasing progress but also mines additional semantic context to erase the target text. Through iterative refinements, the text regions are progressively replaced with more appropriate content and finally converge to a relatively accurate status. Furthermore, a custom mask generation strategy is introduced to improve the capability of DeepEraser for adaptive text removal, as opposed to indiscriminately removing all the text in an image. Our DeepEraser is notably compact with only 1.4M parameters and trained in an end-to-end manner. To verify its effectiveness, extensive experiments are conducted on several prevalent benchmarks, including SCUT-Syn, SCUT-EnsText, and Oxford Synthetic text dataset. The quantitative and qualitative results demonstrate the effectiveness of our DeepEraser over the state-of-the-art methods, as well as its strong generalization ability in custom mask text removal. Prior-enlightened and motion-robust video deblurring

Various blur distortions in video will cause negative impact on both human viewing and video-based applications, which makes motion-robust deblurring methods urgently needed. Most existing works have strong dataset dependency and limited generalization ability in handling challenging scenarios, like blur in low contrast or severe motion areas, and non-uniform blur. Therefore, we propose a PRiOr-enlightened and MOTION-robust video deblurring model (PROMOTION) suitable for challenging blurs. On the one hand, we use 3D group convolution to efficiently encode heterogeneous prior information, explicitly enhancing the scenes’ perception while mitigating the output’s artifacts. On the other hand, we design the priors representing blur distribution, to better handle non-uniform blur in spatio-temporal domain. Besides the classical camera shake caused global blurry, we also prove the generalization for the downstream task suffering from local blur. Extensive experiments demonstrate we can achieve the state-of-the-art performance on well-known REDS and GoPro datasets, and bring machine task gain. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. Optimization approach for multi-scale segmentation of remotely sensed imagery under k-means clustering guidance

In order to adapt different scale land cover segmentation, an optimized approach under the guidance of k-means clustering for multi-scale segmentation is proposed. At first, small scale segmentation and k-means clustering are used to process the original images;then the result of k-means clustering is used to guide objects merging procedure, in which Otsu threshold method is used to automatically select the impact factor of k-means clustering;finally we obtain the segmentation results which are applicable to different scale objects. FNEA method is taken for an example and segmentation experiments are done using a simulated image and a real remote sensing image from geoEye-1 satellite, qualitative and quantitative evaluation demonstrates that the proposed method can obtain high quality segmentation results. ©, 2015, SinoMaps Press. A salient seed extraction based target detection method is proposed in this paper, aiming to distinguish target points from background points in SAR images. Different from recent superpixel based method which generates superpixels firstly, and for each superpixel decides whether it belongs to part of a target. The proposed method employs a salient point to region scheme. At first, salient seeds are extracted by mean-shift and region feature based approach. Then, pixels are assigned to the most similar seed and those assigned to the salient seeds are extracted to form the foreground region. Finally, constant false alarm rate (CFAR) operation is employed to detect the target points from the foreground region. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated by comparing with five state-of-the-art methods on TerraSAR-X images.

This paper introduces a novel global patch matching method that focuses on how to remove fronto-parallel bias and obtain continuous smooth surfaces with assuming that the scenes covered by stereos are piecewise continuous. Firstly, simple linear iterative cluster method (SLIC) is used to segment the base image into a series of patches. Then, a global energy function, which consists of a data term and a smoothness term, is built on the patches. The data term is the second-order Taylor expansion of correlation coefficients, and the smoothness term is built by combing connectivity constraints and the coplanarity constraints are combined to construct the smoothness term. Finally, the global energy function can be built by combining the data term and the smoothness term. We rewrite the global energy function in a quadratic matrix function, and use least square methods to obtain the optimal solution. Experiments on Adirondack stereo and Motorcycle stereo of Middlebury benchmark show that the proposed method can remove fronto-parallel bias effectively, and produce continuous smooth surfaces. © Authors 2017.

An identity regularized sparse representation (IRSR) based SAR target recognition method is proposed in this paper. The method aims to find a transformation that can map the data to a transformed space, in which targets from the same class are close with each other, no matter the distance of them in the original space. This identity constraint can be formulated as a ℓ 1 -norm minimization problem. By decoupling the problem into the sparse coding problem and the dictionary learning problem, the solution can be obtained iteratively. The solution is simply the weighted average of the sparse coding of all training data. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method is superior to several related methods.

In this work, a novel approach for the simulation of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images is proposed. Also, this approach aims to interpret the mechanisms of the dominated scattering centres in the SAR image. An attributed model based on typical structures is used to characterise the 3D geometry of the targets. The physical optics and the geometry optics are used to calculate the main scattering mechanisms of the specified typical structures. Also, based on scattering properties and the imaging process, the simulation approach is set up. The experiments based on the Terra-SAR data of an airplane are implemented to test the validity of the simulation. The work presented would be useful for SAR automatic target recognition. © 2019 Institution of Engineering and technology. All rights reserved.
