Azimuth multichannel (AMC) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is an advanced technique which can prevent the minimum antenna area constraint and provide high-resolution and wide-swath (HRWS) SAR images. Channel imbalance calibration is an important topic in AMC SAR signal processing, since it has a great impact on the image quality. The phase imbalance of AMC SAR is not only related to the radar system, but also to the satellite attitude. This paper first models the relationship between phase imbalance and satellite attitude, and analyzes the influence of satellite attitude on the phase imbalance. In the presence of the satellite attitude deviation, the phase imbalance is time-variation in azimuth, and spatial-variation in range. Then, the real data acquired by Gaofen-3 (GF-3) in the ultra-fine strip-map (UFS) mode is used to verify the relationship model both in theoretical calculations and estimation. The result shows that the model proposed in this paper can describe the space-time variation of phase imbalance very accurately. Finally, some discussions and conclusions are drawn and the future research perspectives are proposed.

This paper introduces a novel global patch matching method that focuses on how to remove fronto-parallel bias and obtain continuous smooth surfaces with assuming that the scenes covered by stereos are piecewise continuous. Firstly, simple linear iterative cluster method (SLIC) is used to segment the base image into a series of patches. Then, a global energy function, which consists of a data term and a smoothness term, is built on the patches. The data term is the second-order Taylor expansion of correlation coefficients, and the smoothness term is built by combing connectivity constraints and the coplanarity constraints are combined to construct the smoothness term. Finally, the global energy function can be built by combining the data term and the smoothness term. We rewrite the global energy function in a quadratic matrix function, and use least square methods to obtain the optimal solution. Experiments on Adirondack stereo and Motorcycle stereo of Middlebury benchmark show that the proposed method can remove fronto-parallel bias effectively, and produce continuous smooth surfaces. © Authors 2017.

For chroma intra prediction, previous methods exemplified by the Linear Model method (LM) usually assume a linear correlation between the luma and chroma components in a coding block. This assumption is inaccurate for complex image content or large blocks, and restricts the prediction accuracy. In this paper, we propose a chroma intra prediction method by exploiting both spatial and cross-channel correlations using a hybrid neural network. Specifically, we utilize a convolutional neural network to extract features from the reconstructed luma samples of the current block, as well as utilize a fully connected network to extract features from the neighboring reconstructed luma and chroma samples. The extracted twofold features are then fused to predict the chroma samples-Cb and Cr simultaneously. The proposed chroma intra prediction method is integrated into HEVC. Preliminary results show that, compared with HEVC plus LM, the proposed method achieves on average 0.2%, 3.1% and 2.0% BD-rate reduction on Y, Cb and Cr components, respectively, under All-Intra configuration.

Network predictive control is effectively in dealing with time-delay, data dropouts, packets disorders of Network Control system. This paper studies the stochastic stability of a affine nonlinear system within random time delay. The system controller is consist of a control prediction generator (CPG) at the controller side and a network delay compensator (NDC) at the plant side. Different from the previous literatures that model the random delay of the feedback channel and the forward channel as Markov chain respectively, the model in this paper is based on the round-trip delay, which making the predictive control process more concise but without losing generality. Then, this paper gives the necessary and sufficient conditions for stochastic stability of the closed-loop system. Finally, a numerical example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2015 Technical Committee on Control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.

Various blur distortions in video will cause negative impact on both human viewing and video-based applications, which makes motion-robust deblurring methods urgently needed. Most existing works have strong dataset dependency and limited generalization ability in handling challenging scenarios, like blur in low contrast or severe motion areas, and non-uniform blur. Therefore, we propose a PRiOr-enlightened and MOTION-robust video deblurring model (PROMOTION) suitable for challenging blurs. On the one hand, we use 3D group convolution to efficiently encode heterogeneous prior information, explicitly enhancing the scenes’ perception while mitigating the output’s artifacts. On the other hand, we design the priors representing blur distribution, to better handle non-uniform blur in spatio-temporal domain. Besides the classical camera shake caused global blurry, we also prove the generalization for the downstream task suffering from local blur. Extensive experiments demonstrate we can achieve the state-of-the-art performance on well-known REDS and GoPro datasets, and bring machine task gain. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. In order to adapt different scale land cover segmentation, an optimized approach under the guidance of k-means clustering for multi-scale segmentation is proposed. At first, small scale segmentation and k-means clustering are used to process the original images;then the result of k-means clustering is used to guide objects merging procedure, in which Otsu threshold method is used to automatically select the impact factor of k-means clustering;finally we obtain the segmentation results which are applicable to different scale objects. FNEA method is taken for an example and segmentation experiments are done using a simulated image and a real remote sensing image from geoEye-1 satellite, qualitative and quantitative evaluation demonstrates that the proposed method can obtain high quality segmentation results. ©, 2015, SinoMaps Press. DeepEraser: Deep Iterative Context Mining for Generic Text Eraser

In this work, we present DeepEraser, an effective deep network for generic text removal. DeepEraser utilizes a recurrent architecture that erases the text in an image via iterative operations. Our idea comes from the process of erasing pencil script, where the text area designated for removal is subject to continuous monitoring and the text is attenuated progressively, ensuring a thorough and clean erasure. Technically, at each iteration, an innovative erasing module is deployed, which not only explicitly aggregates the previous erasing progress but also mines additional semantic context to erase the target text. Through iterative refinements, the text regions are progressively replaced with more appropriate content and finally converge to a relatively accurate status. Furthermore, a custom mask generation strategy is introduced to improve the capability of DeepEraser for adaptive text removal, as opposed to indiscriminately removing all the text in an image. Our DeepEraser is notably compact with only 1.4M parameters and trained in an end-to-end manner. To verify its effectiveness, extensive experiments are conducted on several prevalent benchmarks, including SCUT-Syn, SCUT-EnsText, and Oxford Synthetic text dataset. The quantitative and qualitative results demonstrate the effectiveness of our DeepEraser over the state-of-the-art methods, as well as its strong generalization ability in custom mask text removal. In this paper, we consider the problem of sensor scheduling under limited resources for two linear dynamical systems. We set up that only two sensor nodes were used to monitor the status of two systems, respectively, and consider the scenario that the sensors are smart enough to have abundant computation capability. At each time, the sensors have to decide whether to transmit its local estimate to the remote control center or not for further processing owing to the limited available energy and low channel bandwidth. The necessary condition for the optimal scheduling of sensors is presented which can significantly reduce the feasible optimal solution space. Based on this necessary condition, we construct an optimal explicit sensor schedule, which is periodic and minimizes the estimation error. Examples and simulations are provided at the end of the paper to support the results.

Image retrieval plays an increasingly important role in our daily lives. There are many factors which affect the quality of image search results, including chosen search algorithms, ranking functions, and indexing features. Applying different settings for these factors generates search result lists with varying levels of quality. However, no setting can always perform optimally for all queries. Therefore, given a set of search result lists generated by different settings, it is crucial to automatically determine which result list is the best in order to present it to users. This paper aims to solve this problem and makes four main innovations. First, a preference learning model is proposed to quantitatively study and formulate the best image search result list identification problem. Second, a set of valuable preference learning related features is proposed by exploring the visual characters of returned images. Third, a query-dependent preference learning model is further designed for building a more precise and query-specific model. Fourth, the proposed approach has been tested on a variety of applications including reranking ability assessment, optimal search engine selection, and synonymous query suggestion. Extensive experimental results on three image search datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and promising potential of the proposed method. © 2015 IEEE.

Polarization converter is used in the applications of the polar SAR observations. There exists coupling between TE and TM modes when plane wave is oblique incident on the surface of dielectric periodic structure, the single TE or TM polarized wave incident will cause TE and TM mixed transmission wave. In some proper incident conditions, complete polarization conversion can be realized between TE and TM mode. In this work, a design of complete polarization converter by using dielectric periodic structure is designed and it is carefully investigated by a method which combines the multimode network theory with the rigorous mode matching method. We revealed TE/TM complete polarization conversion characteristics of dielectric periodic structure, and also analyzed the effects of structure parameters. These investigations provide important guideline for accurate designing new millimeter wave polarization converters.
