High-speed (10 Gb/s and above) network monitoring and traffic processing requires hardware acceleration. Different applications require different functions to be placed in hardware. Current packet capture cards include fixed firmware, which is difficult to extend. In this paper we propose an architecture for Modular Traffic Processing Platform (MTPP), which enables end users to easily modify hardware processing without any FPGA development. On the other hand, developers can create new processing modules with much reduced effort thanks to simple module interfaces and isolation of module time constraints.

In this paper we discuss technology used on such lines in thecesnet backbone. The key motivation for ClA-based static DWDM systems is opticalline deployment with the cost effective solution to get a few independent optical channels (typically 4-8) with capacity 1-10 Gbps for various data connections on one dark fiber pair.

Passive network monitoring that observes user traffic has many advantages over active monitoring that uses test packets. It can provide characteristics of real user traffic, that cannot be detected actively. However, when processing user traffic, we must guarantee user privacy. This is a task of packet header anonymization that removes sensitive information, while keeping as much as possible of the original traffic properties. In this paper we present design and implementation of an FPGA-based packet header anonymization that unlike previous approaches operates in real time and prevents sensitive information from getting to the monitoring PC and beyond.

It is operating a national research and education network (NReN) interconnecting all university cities in the republic. The optical transport backbone of this network is based on DWDM. Commonly used DWDM equipment are optimised for usage of transponders for connection of the user signal to transport network. High-speed (10 Gb/s and above) network monitoring and traffic processing requires hardware acceleration. Different applications require different functions to be placed in hardware. This paper presents the architecture and platform for processing network packets at speed of 10 Gb/s. The platform can process the packets at full speed without a packet drop and is easily extendable by plug-in modules that can be changed without the need of shutting down theentire platform.

This paper describes analysis and implementation of a new method for maintaining valid content of FPGA memory blocks with an asymptotically constant time synchronous clear ability, that can be useful for (re)initialization to one default value. A particular application can be for high-speed real-timelZ77 [1] lossless compression algorithms, where a dictionary has to be (re)initialized beforeeach run of the implemented compression algorithm. The method is based on two most widely used techniques for clearing the memory content: a linear passage of the memory and clearing each cell by writing a default value and creating a register field providing an (in)valid bit for each memory cell. Our solution combines these two techniques together with the use of FPGA distributed memory blocks implemented in lUTs (look-Up Tables) to overcome negative features of each previous method without losing the most of positive features. Our solution provides a balance between the two previous techniques and exceeds them in speed, resources utilization and latency of (re)initialization.
