In this contribution we investigate, both theoretically and experimentally, the effect of lasing wavelength and optical feedback loop loss on the performance of all-optical gain-clamped (AOGC) lumped Raman fibre amplifier (lRFA). As a criterion of the AOGC lRFA, we selected a suppression of surviving channel power fluctuations. The lRFA used for the experiments and the numerical analysis consists of 13 km of counter directionally pumped dispersion compensating fibre.

We present experimental results on transmission of twenty 10 Ge channels over 334 km long fibre link composed of 3 spans mixing 234 km of non-zero dispersion shifted (NZ DSF) and 100 km of standard single mode fibre (SSMF). Distributed Raman amplification in the 3 fibre spans is realized by counter-directional time division multiplexed pumping.

We present experimental results on error free bidirectional transmission of 8times10 Ge channels over 210 km of standard single mode fibre. Inexpensive XeNPAKs, conventional C-band eDFAs and FBG dispersion compensating modules have been used. Our results are very promising especially for operators of research and educational networks

We present experimental results and numerical simulations of multi-wavelength conversion of 10 Gb/s NRZ signals based on 2-pumps four-wave mixing, 10 Gb/s and 40 Gb/s RZ signals derived from supercontinuum (SC) generated in highly nonlinear fibre (HNlF). High quality SC with bandwidth exceeding 50 nm was generated when the HNlF was pumped with 25 dBm average power. Sliced SC can be used as a source for all-optical multicasting

Many packet classification algorithms were proposed to deal with the rapidly growing speed of computer networks. Unfortunately all of these algorithms are able to achieve high throughput only at the cost of excessively large memory and can be used only for small sets of rules. We propose new algorithm that uses four techniques to lower the memory requirements: division of rule set into subsets, removal of critical rules, prefix coloring and perfect hashing. The algorithm is designed for pipelined hardware implementation, can achieve the throughput of 266 million packets per second, which corresponds to 178Gb/s for the shortest 64B packets, and outperforms older approaches in terms of memory requirements by 66% in average for the rule sets available to us.

Since the appearance in 1993, first approaching the Shannon limit, the turbo codes give a new direction for the channel encoding field, especially since they were adopted for multiple norms of telecommunications, such as deeper communication. To obtain an excellent performance it is necessary to design robust turbo code interleaver. We are investigating genetic algorithms as a promising optimization method to find good performing interleaver for the large frame sizes. In this paper, we present our work, compare with several previous approaches and present experimental results.

We suggest and demonstrate a radically new approach to generate frequency-locked optical carriers. It provides for a low-power-consumption, self-starting and stable fibre comb operating across the entire C-band. We phase lock commercially-available Integrated-Tunable-laser-Assembly (ITlA) lasers to the comb with arbitrary and fully tuneable spectral spacing.

We present a modular out-of-order architecture for stateful packet classification. The architecture uses DDR4 SDRAM memory to store rules and their state information to support millions of rules. The memory access pattern generated by network traffic significantly degrades the performance of the DDR4. Our architecture contains a cache and aggregation queues to negate this effect. Additionally, the memory subsystem supports a read cancellation and uses an out-of-order pipeline to maximize the main memory's effectiveness further. The rule set update is implemented as a non-blocking operation and can be interleaved with lookup operations without any performance decrease, leading to the same execution time for rule update and rule lookup. The architecture is optimized for the modern datacenter's network traffic and a small on-chip memory footprint, making it suitable as an accelerator for the Open vSwitch. As a result, our novel architecture configured with 1 million exact match rules can process traffic up to 202 Gbit/s (300 Mp/s) in average case and 51 Gbit/s (76 Mp/s) in the worst case with the use of a common dual-channel 64 bit DDR4-2666 MHz. It uses fewer FPGA resources (excluding cache memory) than the well-known de facto industry standard Xilinx MIG DDR4 controllers. Our proposed architecture enables commodity FPGA cards commonly equipped with DDR4 to process 100 Gbit/s which results in a significant cost reduction of a 100G SmartNICs.

living lab, one of the recent emerging smart city concepts, faces long-term sustainability challenges associated with its complexity and breadth of use. To be efficient, it must rely on comprehensive set of information distributed appropriately among all stakeholders to unleash its full innovation potential. This is especially true in the case of positive energy districts (PeDs), where timely data dissemination is essential for prosumager decisions and their greedy behavior. This article interconnects intelligent information exchange, supported by ultralow latency hybrid access network infrastructure, with the clever use of available fog computing resources to properly disseminate complex energy details to all participating entities. As the optimal task offloading for effective information distribution constitutes the convergence problem, we reintroduced higher order neural units. These units contribute to sustaining both computational and energy efficiency, as well as the balance of the entire system. We have achieved a reliable hourly energy consumption prediction with a computationally very lightweight alternative to commonly used deep neural network approaches that can be deployed on available smart appliances with ease. The application and simulation were performed on the data set provided by one of europe's smart city pioneers, where the prosumager PeD transition has already started. © 2023 Ieee.
