On May 29, 1919, at Roça Sundy, Principe island, Eddington confirms Einstein's general relativity theory for the first time by photographing stars behind the obscured Sun during a total eclipse. History was made. At Sobral, Eddington's astronomer colleagues photograph the same eclipse and also conclude that light from distant stars suffers a deection when passing by the gravitational field of the Sun, in accordance with general relativity. With the confirmation of general relativity, a theory of gravitation at a fundamental level, physics became, once and for all, relativist and its future was outlined. The first world war had finished a few months before and the deep wounds between nations were yet to heal. Science wanted to be above it all showing that people could be united by a common goal. This year, the 100 years of this achievement was commemorated with the scientific conference "From Einstein and Eddington to LIGO: 100 years of gravitational light deection" in Principe to celebrate this landmark event. Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that causes food poisoning and is found in various types of food. It can infect humans with a mortality rate of up to 30%. This study aims to determine the potential of the internalin A (inlA) gene with Gradient Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) as a basis for developing a detection method for Listeria monocytogenes in vegetables using Real-Time PCR. This study obtained a round white colony on the Brain Heart Infusion (BHI) agar. In liquid media, the OD600 value is 1.418, indicating the bacteria's growth. The DNA used as a template had a concentration of 72 ng/µL with A260/280 purity of around 1.802. Variation of annealing temperature in Gradient PCR between 53 – 62°C based on melting temperature of the primer. The primer successfully amplifies the inlA gene fragment with an amplicon size 161 base pair. In addition, the optimum annealing temperature for these primers was 55-60°C based on the bright band and a single band formed in electrophoresis. In the future, primers and optimum annealing temperature can be used to develop a detection kit for Listeria monocytogenes bacteria in vegetables using the Real-Time PCR method.

A discrete version of the symmetric duality of Caputo–Torres, to relate left and right Riemann–Liouville and Caputo fractional differences, is considered. As a corollary, we provide an evidence to the fact that in case of right fractional differences, one has to mix between nabla and delta operators. As an application, we derive right fractional summation by parts formulas and left fractional difference Euler–Lagrange equations for discrete fractional variational problems whose Lagrangians depend on right fractional differences. © 2016 The Authors

Gram-negative bacteria that cause food poisoning became an important focus of attention in both developed and developing countries. These bacteria include Salmonella spp and Escherichia coli. In the previous stage, the conditions and reaction formula for the prototype rapid kit detections of foodborne pathogens were obtained using the Real Time PCR method. This research is a stage of validating the conditions and reaction formulas found in the previous stage, to obtain a consistent and reproducible prototype product. Validation of the isolation stage of Salmonella spp (Salmonella typhi, Salmonella typhimurium, Salmonella enteritidis) and Escherichia coli bacteria were carried out by cultivating cultures at 250 rpm aeration conditions, and temperature 37oC. A total of three mL of cultures was centrifuged at 5000 rpm and yielded each cell weight of 0.25-0.6 grams. The results of the isolation of genomic DNA with Qiaprep were 200 microliters with the amount of DNA 10600-11700 nanograms. The concentrations were 23-58.5 ng/mL, and the purities were 1.809-2.084. Furthermore, the resulting genomic DNA is used as a template for the PCR process. The validation of the PCR stage of Salmonella spp using annealing temperature of 60oC and template concentration of 50 ng resulted in the Salmonella typhi fim-C gene amplicons, Salmonella typhimurium pef gene and Salmonella enteritidis prot6E gene measuring 95 bp, 139 bp and 170 bp, respectively. PCR validation of the E. coli DNA template at 60oC with the same concentration resulted in an amplicon measuring 121 bp. Based on the data obtained, it can be concluded that the validation of the isolation stage and confirmed PCR produced data that were consistent with previous studies and were reproducible. Isolation and PCR validation of Bacillus cereus and Listeria monocytogenes bacteria for the development of prototype kit detection of foodborne pathogens diseases

The case of foodborne disease by pathogenic bacteria is an extraordinary event whose source and route of spread occur quickly. Bacillus cereus and Listeria monocytogenes are included in the gram-positive bacteria that cause food poisoning infections in humans. In previous studies, the conditions and reaction formulas for the prototype rapid kit detections of foodborne pathogens were obtained using the Real-Time PCR method. This research validates the conditions and reaction formulas in the prior stage to obtain a consistent and reproducible prototype product. Validation of the isolation stage of Bacillus cereus and Listeria monocytogenes bacteria was carried out by culturing bacterial cultures at aeration conditions of 250 rpm and a temperature of 37oC. A total of three mL of the culture was centrifuged at 5000 rpm and yielded 0.03 and 0.02 grams of B. cereus and L. monocytogenes cells, respectively. The results of the isolation of genomic DNA with Qiaprep were 200 µL with the amount of DNA 10600-11700 nanograms; the concentration was 23-58.5 ng/μL, and the purity was 1.809-2.084. Furthermore, the resulting it is used as a template for the PCR process. The validation of the PCR stage of B. cereus and L. monocytogenes at a temperature of 60oC and template concentration of 50-60 ng resulted in an amplicon of both bacteria. The cyt-k gene B. cereus and hly L. monocytogenes are measuring respectively 114 bp and 158 bp. Based on the data obtained, it can be concluded that the validation of the isolation and PCR stages has been successfully carried out by producing data consistent with previous studies. The development of a detection kit prototype is then revealed to the Real-Time PCR stage and laboratory-scale trials for artificially contaminated food samples and food samples from products on the market.

SO(2) gauged Skyrmions in 4+1 dimensions

We study the simplest SO(2) gauged O(5) Skyrme model in 4+1 (flat) dimensions. In the gauge decoupled limit, the model supports topologically stable solitons (Skyrmions) and after gauging, the static energy of the solutions is bounded from below by a “baryon number.” The studied model features both Maxwell and Maxwell–Chern-Simons dynamics. The considered configurations are subject to biazimuthal symmetry in the R4 subspace resulting in a two dimensional subsystem, as well as subject to an enhanced symmetry relating the two planes in the R4 subspace, which results in a one dimensional subsystem. Numerical solutions are constructed in both cases. In the purely magnetic case, fully biazimuthal solutions were given, while electrically charged and spinning solutions were constructed only in the radial (enhanced symmetric) case, both in the presence of a Chern-Simons term, and in its absence. We find that, in contrast with the analogous models in 2+1 dimensions, the presence of the Chern-Simons term in the model under study here results only in quantitative effects.

The development of rapid, sensitive, and specific detection methods has increasingly become the attention in handling food poisoning cases. In this study, the method of Real-Time PCR (RT-PCR) with nuc gene target was developed for the detection of Staphylococcus aureus in food samples of meat and milk. The results showed that the primer nuc gene with Gradient PCR could detect Staphylococcus aureus bacteria from the pure culture at 57-61 oC by producing amplicons measuring 135 base pairs. Amplification by RT-PCR in the same sample at an annealing temperature of 58oC and a concentration of 50 ng gave a Ct value of 18.88-19.56. The primer specificity test of that gene shows that the primer can recognize the target bacteria with a strong fluorescent signal at the Melting Curve of 79.02 oC, whereas non-target bacteria give low signals and different Tm values. The primer sensitivity of the nuc gene has a detection limit (LOD) of 98.4 pg/µL or 8.8 x 102 CFU/mL. Based on these results, the RT PCR method with the nuc gene has the potential to be a method of detecting specific, sensitive, and rapid for Staphylococcus aureus bacteria in a food sample.

Superradiant instabilities in the Kerr-mirror and Kerr-AdS black holes with Robin boundary conditions

It has been recently observed that a scalar field with Robin boundary conditions (RBCs) can trigger both a superradiant and a bulk instability for a Bañados-Teitelboim-Zanelli (BTZ) black hole (BH) [1]. To understand the generality and scrutinize the origin of this behavior, we consider here the superradiant instability of a Kerr BH confined either in a mirrorlike cavity or in anti-de Sitter (AdS) space, triggered also by a scalar field with RBCs. These boundary conditions are the most general ones that ensure the cavity/AdS space is an isolated system and include, as a particular case, the commonly considered Dirichlet boundary conditions (DBCs). Whereas the superradiant modes for some RBCs differ only mildly from the ones with DBCs, in both cases, we find that as we vary the RBCs the imaginary part of the frequency may attain arbitrarily large positive values. We interpret this growth as being sourced by a bulk instability of both confined geometries when certain RBCs are imposed to either the mirrorlike cavity or the AdS boundary, rather than by energy extraction from the BH, in analogy with the BTZ behavior.

Many optimization problems on graphs are reduced to the determination of a subset of vertices of maximum cardinality which induces a k-regular subgraph. For example, a maximum independent set, a maximum induced matching and a maximum clique is a maximum cardinality 0-regular, 1-regular and (ω(G) − 1)-regular induced subgraph, respectively, were ω(G) denotes the clique number of the graph G. The determination of the order of a k-regular induced subgraph of highest order is in general an NP-hard problem. This paper is devoted to the study of spectral upper bounds on the order of these subgraphs which are determined in polynomial time and in many cases are good approximations of the respective optimal solutions. The introduced upper bounds are deduced based on adjacency, Laplacian and signless Laplacian spectra. Some analytical comparisons between them are presented. Finally, all of the studied upper bounds are tested and compared through several computational experiments. © Springer International Publishing AG 2017.
