Monitoring the navy's strategic reserve of ozone-depleting substances

He received a B.A. in Mathematics (magna cum laude)from Wabash College and an M.S. in mathematics an M.S. in statistics and a Ph.D. in statistics from the University of Wisconsin. From November 1973 until February 1999 he was president and principal statistician at Desmatics Inc. where he participated in a number of studies involving the application of statistical methods to various technical problems in the Navy's environmental-protection and auxiliary-machinery programs. Dr. Smith was instrumental in developing the statistical procedures underlying the Navy's ODS reserve monitoring plan. DAVID A. BRESLIN P.E. is the director of technical operations for the Naval Surface Warfare Center and chairs the ASNE/SNAME Joint Committee on Environmental Engineering. He received a master of science in aerospace engineering from Virginia Tech a master of engineering administration in industrial and systems engineering from Virginia Tech and a bachelor of engineering in mechanical engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology. From 1993 to 1997 he was the program manager of the Naval Sea Systems Command's CFC and Halon Elimination Program and played a critical role in establishing the Navy's strategic reserve of ozone-depleting substances. Because of his many efforts he received a Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award in 1995 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in recognition of “exceptional contributions to global environmental protection”. GREGORY S. TOMS P.E. is the CFC &Halon Elimination Program Manager for the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). He received a master of science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Maryland and a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from West Virginia University. He earned his BS degree in mechanical engineering in 1961 at the University of Illinois. He has twenty-eight years experience in the ship design and construction field and has held several positions at Ingalls Shipbuilding ranging from engineering section manager to group manager of project engineering. He has held other responsible engineering positions at General Dynamics/Electric Boat and several consulting firms. He has been a registered professional engineer with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts since 1966 a member of ASNE since 1978 and a member of SNAME since 1968. Robert W. Erskine:is a naval architect specialist with Ingalls Shipbuilding Inc. in Pascagoula Mississippi. He earned a BSE in naval architecture and marine engineering in 1967 at the University of Michigan and an MBA in management in 1983 at the University of Southern Mississippi. He has 22 years of engineering and managerial experience in the Navy and in the commercial marine industry. Achievements during his 13 years with Ingalls include an Aegis Excellence A ward for his work on the CG-47 class cruiser program. He has also held responsible positions with ship operation and design consultant firms in New York City. He participated in the Bearing Sea trial described herein. He has been a member of ASNE since 1977 and a member of USNI since 1985. Leonard A. Haslim:is a program manager at NASA Ames Research Center Moffett Field California. He has earned advanced degrees in chemistry mathematics and engineering from UCLA UC and Stanford. He has forty-five years experience in aerospace engineering including responsible research development and engineering positions with the U.S. Navy Lockheed Missile and Space Ford Aerospace NASA and as a consultant for Arthur D. Little Company. He holds several patents including the Electro-Expulsive Separation System for which he earned NASA's 1988 Inventor of the Year Award.

作者: TAYLOR, KC HESS, JW MAZZELA, A Dr. Kendrick Taylor was awarded a doctorate in hydrogeology from the University of Nevada at Reno in 1987. He holds an M.S. and a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin and Colorado School of Mines respectively. His current research interest is the development of geophysical methods for hydrologic applications. In addition to his position at the Desert Research Institute (Water Resources Center P.O. Box 60220 Reno NV89506) he instructs a course in hydrogeophysics at the University of Nevada at Reno. Dr. Aldo Mazzella received a B.A. in physics from Pomona College an MS. in physics from the University of Maryland and a Ph.D. in engineering geoscience from the University of California Berkeley (1976). He worked four years in the Institute of Fluid Dynamics and Applied Mathematics at the University of Maryland and five years at Physics International Co. on equation of state and fluid dynamics projects. He was founder and president of Terraphysics Co. for 11 years a company specializing in geophysical research and exploration for geothermal minerals and ground water. In 1985 he joined the US. EPA Environmental Monitoring Systems Laboratory Subsurface Monitoring Branch (P.O. Box 93478 Las Vegas NV 89193-3478). He is a project officer on a wide variety of geophysical research and technical support projects for detection of subsurface contaminations and ground water investigations. Dr. John Hess received his B.S. in geophysics and his Ph.D. in hydrogeology from the Pennsylvania State University in 1969 and 1974 respectively. He has been with the Water Resources Center Desert Research Institute University of Nevada System (2505 Chandler Ave. Suite 1 Las Vegas NV 89512) for the past 14 years. Currently he is the deputy executive director and a research professor. He holds a joint appointment in the Geosciences Department at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Research interests include isotope hydrogeology aqueous geochemistry karst hydrology and ground water sampling.
