Natural gas hydrates have drawn significant attention in energy and environment field and the controllable decomposition is a key issue for its potential applications. Although alcohols are commonly used as promoters for the control- lable hydrate decomposition, the underlying decomposition mechanism is not yet well understood. In this study, a combination of quantitative analysis was used to reveal the role of alcohol chain length in the decomposition mechanism of methane hydrate using molecular dynamic (Md) simulations. It was found that increasing the chain length of alcohols, methane hydrates were more difficult to be decomposed. This was attributed to the mass transfer effect and deconstruction of the hydrogen bonds. The obtained results offer important insights into role of alcohols in the decomposition process and mechanism of methane hydrates on molecular scale, and contribute to the development of novel alcohol-based molecules for promoting gas hydrate decomposition. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte ltd. 2023.

As a mature methodology to enhance recovery of heavy oil, ultra-heavy oil and tar oil, steam assisted gravity drainage has been adopted in several oil production regions in China since 1990's. Liaohe Oilfield which is located in the northeastern part of China has become the most important production base of heavy oil in China. Heavy oil reservoirs in Kenkyak Oilfield Kazakhstan are found on a semi-dessert plain where saline soils are widely distributed. The cold production techniques used to be deployed in Kenkyak Oilfield, but the relatively low recovery rates have made the operator to carry out a feasibility research on steam injection. The steam assisted gravity drainage technology enhances recovery rates of heavy oil, producing a large amount of heat at the same time. The thermal resources are residual heat of hot separated water from the boiler's moisture separator, residual heat of produced fluid associated by crude oil, residual heat flue gas injected into the boiler. The separated water is as hot as steam, with a flow rate of 25% of the gas injection volume. The produced fluid associated by crude oil is at 160°C, with a flow rate of 1.1 times of the gas injection volume. The flue gas is at 240-250°C, much hotter than flue gas generated by conventional boilers. The residual heat does not only affect on-site operation and management, but also results in waste of thermal energy. Now the residual heat of produced fluid and separated water is deployed to heat supply water and fuel. Based on geological conditions and on-site operation requirements, there is neither a river to cool the residual heat, nor a common heating system to generate a large amount of thermal energy. Besides, both Chinese government and Kazakhstani government are adopting strict environment protection laws, banning direct discharge of waste water and extraction of underground water in the oilfields. The application of new technologies and methods in emerging fields such as machine learning and big data to the oil drilling industry is the focus of research in the oil industry. The prediction of rOP (rate of penetrate) and optimization of drilling parameters are one of the core problems in the process of intelligent drilling. The relationship between various factors and rOP in the drilling process is explored by using machine learning in this paper. It can accurately predict rOP in the follow-up drilling process and provide feasible ideas and methods for rOP optimization. A collaborative optimization software for drilling parameters based on geological engineering data is developed in this paper. It mainly includes five modules: data management module, data preprocessing module, rOP model establishment and drilling parameter optimization module and data display module. Multiple regression, neural network algorithm and deep learning algorithm are used to predict the rOP. The curve display actual drilling parameters and optimized drilling parameters at the same time through data post-processing and visualization. The influence of the aluminum content on the pitting corrosion of a 304 stainless steel by a Cl−solution was *** number,area,and composition of non-metallic inclusions were modified by the addition of aluminum in the steel,which was responsible for the variation of the corrosion degree of the 304 stainless *** detection,corrosion test,electrochemical test,thermodynamic calculation,and first-principles calculation were performed to evaluate the pitting corrosion of the stainless *** initiation of the pitting corrosion by three types of inclusions,including(Mn,Si,Cr,S)O,(Mn,Al,Cr)O,and Al_(2)O_(3)were in-situ *** corroding for 880 min,the corrosion index of(Mn,Si,Cr,S)O,(Mn,Al,Cr)O,and Al_(2)O_(3)was 0.38%,0.02%,and 0.00%min−1,*** the increase in aluminum content in the steel,the pitting potential of the stainless steel was 0.131,0.304,and 0.338 V,respectively,indicating that a higher aluminum content in the steel was beneficial to improving the pitting corrosion resistance of the 304 stainless steel.

Objective/Scope(30-75): drilling contractors have always strived to pursue higher single well production and lower well-construction cost in order to achieve higher return on investment. Efforts have been made in recent years to break technological barriers to create ultra-long(>3500m) slim hole horizontal wells in duvernay shale project. However, there were many challenges while extending the 6.75-in. slim hole laterals, such as 1) difficulty in weight transfer regarding motor slide drilling, 2) high down-hole friction torque and high ECd, 3) short servicing life and low efficiency of MWd, 4) inability to tracking thin substrata with limited logging tool, 5) production casing deployment challenges including stuck pipe risk and long running time. To overcome these obstacles, systematic solutions were proposed for unconventional ultra-long horizontal wells. Methods, Steps, and Process(75-100): This paper proposes an integral drilling program to enhance overall drilling performance of ultra-long horizontal wells. First, Slim hole design to reduce well-construction cost through a reduction in steel, cement and fluid costs. Second, the upper drilling string upgraded from 4-in. drill pipes to 4.5-in. drill pipe with an advanced reduced Od premium connections, while Bottom Hole Assembly (BHA) employed even-wall stator PdM and Motorized rSS to improve drilling efficiency;Third, the OBM system is optimized for strong stability, lower friction, and clay-free invert emulsion to ensure safety drilling of longer laterals. Additionally, the MPd is equipped to maintain a lower ECd with minimal downhole losses;Then, a near-bit vibration sensor integrated into the rSS was deployed to provide real-time assessment of the severity of downhole shock and vibration. reasonable drilling parameters were adjusted to reduce or eliminate downhole vibration and mitigate motor and MWd failure. Mud logging serves as the "eyes" of exploration and development, acting as a counselor for drilling safety, the center of information transmission, and holding the first-hand data on oil and gas exploration and development. With the rapid development of informatization, digitization, intelligence, and remote support systems, the demand for high-quality mud logging data has continuously risen, where sensor calibration and calibration technology serve as the foundation for ensuring accuracy and reliability. This paper proposes an artificial intelligence-based comprehensive mud logging instrument sensor calibration and calibration technology, targeting the issues of prolonged service life, low precision, and low inspection rate of traditional mud logging instruments. The technology primarily involves collecting and pre-processing sensor output data such as filtering, sampling to eliminate noise, and improve the dataset's quality. Mathematical models of sensors were constructed using machine learning or deep learning algorithms to analyze the relationship between sensor outputs and actual values, which could also compute sensor errors and uncertainties. Algorithm optimization methods such as wavelet transform and adaptive filtering were used to process and analyze sensor data for different types of sensors and environmental conditions. The adaptive control algorithm was then utilized based on the predicted model results and actual measurement results to calibrate the sensor, ultimately helping to avoid errors and uncertainty in the traditional manual calibration process. Experimental results show that this technology has higher accuracy and reliability than traditional calibration techniques while maintaining simple operation, fast speed, and cost-effectiveness. Studies indicate that the interaction between the drill bit and rock formations induces vibrations along the bottom hole assembly (BHA). Parameters such as weight on bit (WOB) and rotation speed affect the engagement of the cutters in the rock, otherwise known as depth of cut (dOC). dOC is crucial for bit stability;a poor BHA design combined with a suboptimal choice of dOC can lead to axial, torsional, and lateral instabilities (bit bounce, stick-slip, and bit whirling phenomena). Optimizing the bit design to address these vibrations is vital for improved drilling performance. Both experimental studies in the lab and numerical simulations are essential tools to test and improve bit design before real-world drilling. In this work, a transient bit-rock interaction model is implemented to study the evolution of cutting and friction forces on each individual cutter, whether it is a cylindrical or shaped cutter. Specific models are introduced based on laboratory scratch tests, where the performance of each shaped cutter type is related to its main geometrical characteristics. These elementary forces are combined to provide the overall response of the bit. It accounts for axial, torsional, and lateral motions of the bit as well as the possible transition between different rock layers that generally trigger bit instability. This model is coupled with a time-domain dynamics model of the drill string to examine the implications of the cutting process on the BHA vibration. Experimental lab data on a drill bit are used as a basis to calibrate the model. The experimental measurements are then complemented with the simulation results to have an in-depth understanding of the bit behavior. comparisons of lab and simulation results showed a good agreement for WOB, torque on bit (TOB), and lateral acceleration. A high-quality plug of the abandoned wellbore is considered an essential technical aspect of the oil and gas well abandonment technology system. This paper presents a method of active mechanical excitation to enhance the quality of wellbore plug barriers. An indoor simulation platform is developed, and the effects of different combinations of vibration frequency, amplitude and duration on the properties of the wellbore plug cement material are investigated. It is observed that the optimal combination of excitation parameters occurs at a vibration frequency of 15 Hz, a vibration time of 6 min, and a vibration amplitude of 3 mm. compared with the condition without the vibration process, the cementing strength, compressive strength, and tensile strength of wellbore cement plug with the optimal mechanical vibration process could increase by 51%, 38% and 20%, respectively, while the porosity decreases by 5%. As determined by scanning electron microscopy of the set cement's microstructure, mechanical vibration effectively eliminates internal porosity and improves the set cement's density. The optimal excitation parameters obtained from the test can guide the design of the vibration plugging tool. The designed vibration plugging tool is simulated in the near field. The cement plug cementation quality tester tests the vibrating and non-vibrating samples, and the cementation ratio is calculated. The test results show that the average cementation ratio of vibrating samples is 0.89375, and that of non-vibrating samples is 0.70625, and the cementation quality is improved by 27%. It is concluded that it not only provides essential data for the design of mechanical vibration plug apparatus, on-site vibration plugs, and the development of operational specifications for vibration plugs, but also provides solid engineering guidance.

Carbonate rocks are an important oil and gas reservoir rock. conical PdC (Polycrystalline diamond compact) cutter, as a special shaped PdC cutter, can significantly improve the rate of penetration (rOP) in hard formations. However, the breakage characteristics and failure mode of the conical PdC cutter penetrating carbonate rock is unclear. A series of single cutter penetration tests were carried out with the conical and conventional PdC cutters. The surface morphology of broken pit and specific energy were analyzed. The conical cutter caused brittle damage on the rock around the broken pit at the rake angle of 10 and 20 degrees. The results of the numerical model based on the cohesive element method show that the conical cutter produce the significant tensile damage on the rock at the rake angle of 10 and 20 degrees. The tensile capacity of the conical cutter is stronger than that of the conventional cutter. The research findings of this work offer insights into the breakage process and failure mode of carbonate rock by the conical cutter. copyright 2024 ArMA, American rock Mechanics Association.

The Niger project is one of the important exploration and development cooperation projects of China National Petroleum corporation in West Africa. The dibeilla N-1 block of Agadem oilfield in Niger faces challenges such as frequent interlayers and susceptibility to encountering faults during drilling. According to the deployment requirements of the plan, the block will be developed using a mixed well network of horizontal and vertical wells, and the upper sand body will need to be developed using horizontal wells. The dogleg angle of the inclined wellbore should be controlled within 2~4.5 (°)/30m, and the target thickness should be only 3m. conventional guiding tools represented by MWd(Measurement While drilling) cannot achieve effective and efficient reservoir identification and trajectory adjustment in thin oil layers due to their zero length of around 10 meters. Therefore, a geological guiding tool that can achieve near drill bit measurement is needed. Therefore, in order to successfully complete the horizontal section drilling and guidance engineering, maximize the drilling encounter rate of high-quality reservoirs, communicate favorable layers to achieve oil reservoir benefit development, it is decided to use CGdS(cnpc Geological drilling System) near bit geological guidance tool to implement horizontal section drilling. The system is equipped with gamma, resistivity, and engineering parameter measurements at a distance of 3 meters from the drill bit, providing multiple basis for precise directional guidance of the formation. In the dibeilla N-1 block of Niger, a total of 6 wells were applied, with an average reservoir drilling encounter rate of 85.38% and a mechanical drilling speed of 12.31 m/h.
