Effects of dry and mist saunas on circulatory and thermoregulatory functions in humans

To test the hypothesis that mist sauna is a safer way of bathing than dry sauna, we compared changes in circulatory and thermoregulatory functions during 10 min sauna bathing in mist sauna at 40℃ with relative humidity of 100%, and in dry sauna by infrared ray at 70℃ with relative humidity of 15%. Subjects were seven healthy young men aged 29 ± 6 yrs (mean ± Sd). We measured blood pressure, heart rate, skin temperatures at chest, forearm, thigh, and leg, tympanic temperature (Tty) by thermistors, skin blood flow at forearm by laser doppler flowmetry, and sweat rate by ventilated capsule method at 1 min intervals throughout the experiment. Total sweating and change of hematocrit were also measured for dehydration analysis. Blood pressure was elevated more and changes in heart rate and total sweating were larger in dry sauna than mist. A significant hematocrit increase was observed in dry sauna bathing only. Mean skin temperature and Tty in dry sauna were elevated higher than those in mist. Heat stress of the dry sauna may be stronger than that of the mist, leading to dehydration and hypovolemia by sweating. Percent plasma volume loss was significantly larger in the dry than mist sauna. Changes in skin blood flow and sweat rate/Tty during mist sauna were significantly larger than those during dry sauna bathing despite heat stress of the mist sauna. The mist sauna bathing may thus be safer physiologically, and provide more effective vascular dilatation and sweating than the dry sauna bathing.

The finite-difference time-domain method is employed to calculate the radar signatures of an obliquely penetrating tunnel. The relatively faster propagation and stronger distortion of the electromagnetic pulse are discovered due to the existence of an empty tunnel as its penetration angle becomes more oblique. To analyze the different behaviors of two arrival times, the electrical fields in 3 different tracks as transmitter side, tunnel inside and receiver side are collected around tunnel. Those data are analyzed in time and frequency domains. It renders the arrival time of the first peak to be increased relatively slower than that of the first received signal.

This paper presents a novel patternable electrophoretic polymer(EPP) coating technology for sidewall package in microelectronic devices. The main features of this EPP film are directly patterned via through-mask electrophoretic deposition. The proposed EPP coating has some overwhelming merits against other coating polymers, such as self-patterning via through-mask deposition, good adhesive performance, selective coating, low cost and compatible with IC process. The focus is on the process, patterning, properties characterization and application of this novel electrophoretic polymer. The main applications can be aimed for electrical/thermal isolations or sidewall packaging in semiconductor device package.

We measured the profiles of the trapped field, B T, on a thin Gd-Ba-Cu-O superconducting bulk plate with 45 mm in diameter and 2 mm in thickness magnetized by the pulsed field, where Gd-Ba-Cu-O consists of a superconducting matrix phase of GdBa2Cu3O7−δ and a nonsuperconducting secondary phase of Gd2BaCuO5. The vortices were mainly trapped at the periphery in the growth sector regions (GSrs) for low applied fields, and around the growth sector boundaries (GSBs) and under the seed crystal (SC) position for high applied fields. The irreversibility line, which was determined from the resistivity measurements, of the sample cut from the GSr was rather lower than those of the samples cut from the GSBs and the SC position. This result revealed the weak vortex pinning strength in the GSrs and was consistent with the B T profiles by PFM. The obtained results suggest that the resistivity can also probe the distribution of the vortex pinning strength.

This paper proposes a measurement scheme for power delay profiles using IEEE 802.11g based wireless packets in the 2.4 GHz band. In the proposed scheme, first, a signal analyzer, which can save the received Ich and Qch signals, receives the OFdM based packets sent from a wireless access point to a mobile terminal. Second, positions of long preambles in the received IQ data are detected in the cross correlation process using a known long preamble signal between a transmitter and a receiver. Third, the power delay profile is calculated by averaging the channel impulse responses, which are estimated from the received long preamble signals. computer simulations confirm that the proposed scheme can be expected to achieve almost the same performance with PN sequence based measurement schemes.

recently, the CeO2 (ceria) based slurry has been widely used in chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) process. Most of the CMP processes are using point of use (POU) filters in order to reduce unwanted micro-scratches. However, there is no clear evidence on filter's performance and life-time respect to various conditions, such as slurry type, filter retension size and various kinds of slurry supply conditions. Through this study, we observed the performance of the filters by measuring particle size distribution change before and after filtration in above conditions. we used silica and ceria slurry, and two different types of 0.2 µm filters (A and B filters). And slurry supply system used in this study is cycling configruation. After filteration, abrasive size measurement was done by scaning mobility particle sizer(SMPS). In silica slurry case, particles larger than 300 nm are filtered vigorously than smaller particles.
