A great deal of attention has been attracted to the exploitation as well as the development of unconventional gas reservoirs, which expect to act as an essential role in counterpoising the daily increasing energy demand around the world. In this research, with the intent of contributing to the successful development of coalbed methane (CBM) reservoirs, which is an indispensable member of the family of unconventional gas reservoirs, a novel production prediction model is proposed for fractured vertical CBM wells. Tarim Basin is the biggest oil and gas bearing basin in China. The ultra-deep formations in the North Border of Tarim Basin is characterized by ultra-high temperature, high pressure, and ultra-thick composite salt-gypsum formations, are widely distributed, so it will bring great challenge to well integrity during CO2 sequestration. Therefore it is necessary to evaluate the impact of temperature decrease and salt rock creep on injection well integrity. A numerical model is used to analyze the impact of temperature decrease and salt rock creep on injection well integrity in this process of CO2 injection and obtain a critical temperature drop value.A set of new ideas for casing selection was proposed based upon long-term corrosion rate of different materials calculated by de. Warrd corrosion prediction model. Well B in Tarim Oilfield was designed in this method, and design results were verified by performing laboratory experiments. The results show that under some circumstances the micro-annulus between casing and cement sheath can be changed by salt creep or self-healed. The mechanism of casing damage in salt layers was preliminarily revealed. A set of methods is proposed for casing material selection in CO2 corrosion environment is proposed: corrosion rate of different materials is calculated and converted into long-term corrosion rate. Then the maximum allowable wear extent of the casing is calculated according to casing strength requirement. Finally, casing selection material is determined. The mechanism of casing damage in salt layers was preliminarily revealed during CO2 sequestration. It is indicated that casing damage is mainly caused by the non-uniform load induced by the creep of salt-gypsum layers, the low temperature ,and the poor cementing quality. Influx and loss are the two most common downhole complexities. They not only cause the reservoir damage, increase the exploration cost, reduce the drilling efficiency;but also induce major malignancy. Therefore accurate and early detection of influx and loss during drilling is of great significance. Traditional influx and loss detection methods have the shortcoming of monitoring time lagging and high costs. As the rapid development of artificial intelligence techniques, researchers start to detect influx and loss using artificial intelligence method. This work adopted two machine learning algorithms(random forests and Support vector machine) according to their characteristics to detect influx and loss during drilling in real-time. The detection methods includes four steps: 1) Generating raw influx/loss raw data set by combining real-time drilling data and drilling history data;2) Pre-processing raw data set to obtain training data set;3) Training classification model of random forests and SVM by training data set and algorithms;4) Predicting influx/ loss by the trained model according to the new real-time data. The case study shows that influx and loss can be detected accurately in early stage by both random forests method and SVM method after proper pre-processing the raw data and optimizing algorithm parameters. The detection accuracy of the sample data from four wells exceeds 90%. This work demonstrate a new way to detect influx and loss by utilizing huge drilling data and machine-learning algorithms, and the detection results are satisfying. © 2019, International Petroleum technology Conference

In the current work, a parametric investigation is conducted by KIVA-CHEMKIN code to evaluate the impacts of the temperature and pressure of intake charge, injection timing and pressure, and EGr rate parameters on the combustion and emission characteristics of neat biodiesel (B100) within a PCCI engine. In this simulation, multi-chemical surrogate mechanism using methyl decanoate (Md) and methyl-9-decenoate (Md9d) is utilized for the biodiesel reaction mechanism. The analyses are conducted under conditions of 2000 rpm engine speed and 5.5 bar indicated mean effective pressure (IMEP). The numerical results show that higher EGr rate retards the first and second peaks of heat release rate. Also, increasing intake temperature decrease the first peak, and increase the second peak of heat release rate. Increasing the injection pressure does not always lead to improved combustion. The phasing of the peak of low temperature heat release is shifted with the timing of the injection event, but, this sensitivity is lower for the peak of high temperature heat release. Each design parameter has its own influence on exhaust emissions. For different various operating and design parameters, range of combustion efficiency varies between 48% and 51.84%. The presented numerical 2-d and 3-d results of this investigation can be construed to offer an in-depth insight into the qualities of the biodiesel PCCI combustion. © 2023, The Authors. The development of high-performance gas hydrate inhibitors for drilling fluids is of great significance for developing natural gas hydrates safely and efficiently. To improve the gas hydrate inhibition performance of a conventional gas inhibitor poly (vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP), a random copolymer (SYZ-1) of N-vinyl pyrrolidone (NVP) and N, N-dimethyl acrylamide (dMAA) was synthesized, imparting abundant alkylated groups on the backbone of PVP. The results of experiments and molecular simulations illustrate that the mechanism of the inhibitors varies at different stages. The inhibitors retard hydrate formation by reducing the solubility of methane molecules in water during the nucleation phase. However, during the formation phase, the hydrate inhibition is achieved by adsorption. In particular, the absorption of PVP on the surface of hydrate can be effectively improved by alkylation, and the interaction energy of SYZ-1 with the hydrate nucleus was increased by 3.22 times compared to PVP. A molecular model for evaluating the interaction of inhibitors with hydrates is also successfully developed, which corresponds well to the experimental results. These results contribute to a better understanding of hydrate formation in drilling fluids and implications for developing new materials for high-performance hydrate drilling fluids. © 2022, The Authors. The optimization of cutter shape has become one of the main innovation direction of PdC bit technology. At present, both domestic and foreign bit manufacturers have put forward various special shaped cutters to improve rock breaking efficiency. However, there are relatively few researches which focus on the rock breaking efficiency of special-shaped cutters. Therefore, three kinds of typical cutters (flat cutter, convex cutter and concave cutter) are selected as the study object in this paper. Based on the single cutter test, the relationship of axial cutting force, cutting area and cutting specific energy under different working conditions will be provided. The experimental results show that the axial cutting force and specific energy of concave cutter and convex cutter are lower than that of flat cutter in most test cases. The results are almost the same for both Vosges sandstone and Marcellus shale cases. In other words, the tested concave cutters are easier to intrude into rock and obtain higher rock brea king efficiency under the same cutting conditions, when compared with flat cutter and convex cutter. The experimental method provides a technica l reference for studying the rock breaking efficiency of three-dimensional cutters with different shapes.

This study compared the performance of anaerobic sequencing batch reactor (ASBr) and continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTr) for biogas production from thermally hydrolyzed sludge. The influent total solids (TS) concentration was varied from 2%, 4%, 6%, to 8% at a thermal hydrolysis temperature of 160°C. The results showed that ASBr outperformed CSTr with an increase in biogas yield by 19.80%, 10.78%, and 13.98% at influent TS concentrations of 2%, 4%, and 6%, respectively. However, at an influent TS concentration of 8%, no significant difference was observed between the two reactors due to poor sludge settling in ASBr. At a thermal hydrolysis temperature of 170°C and an influent TS concentration of 8%, the biogas production in ASBr was 18.04% higher than that in CSTr, and sludge settling occurred in ASBr. Even with an HrT shortened to 8 days, ASBr still operated stably with a biogas yield of 256 L/kgTS at an influent TS concentration of 6% and thermal hydrolysis temperature of 160°C, which was only 7.25% lower than that at an HrT of 15 days. A novel design of PdC bit with hollowed cutters is presented that uses the principle of hydraulic lubricating and water jetting mechanism to improve rOP. engineering results show its advantage compared to solid fixed cutters which are commonly used in today's drilling industry. The structure of the new PdC bit is as follows: each cutter contains a specific fluid channel, which is tailor made;the bit body contains many fluid channels;Compared with the existing conventional PdC bit, the main distinctive features are: the cutters are hollowed, each cutter contains a fluid channel in the centre of itself;and the bit body has fluid passages which are communicating with each hollowed cutter, allowing the drilling fluid flows from the inside of the bit to the outside of each cutter. The failures of a PdC bit are mostly due to premature wear or cracks of compound cutters;the wear or cracks are due to mechanical and thermal effects. To improve the service life of cutters can effectively increase the life of the drill bit. According to thermal stress analysis, the position where the frictional heat concentrated is in the centre of the cutter, which will result in the generation and expansion of thermal cracks, which in turn leads to failure of the cutter and loss of rOP. Therefore, the cutter with fluid passage will improve the way of thermal concentration and expansion, thereby prolonging the life of the drill bit, reducing the number of trips, improving single run drilling footage, therefore the drilling efficiency is increased. during the drilling operation, the rock cuttings cannot flow out timely, and may accumulate on the drill bit, which is commonly referred to as mud balling. The presence of mud balling will reduce the cutting capability of the drill bit and decrease the rOP. In this article, multiple reinforcement learning (rL) methods such as value-based, policy-based, and actor-critic algorithms are investigated for typical control tasks found in the chemical industries. Through a critical assessment of these novel techniques, their main advantages are highlighted, but also the challenges that still need to be resolved are discussed. Two batch control tasks are used as benchmarks, namely, production maximization, and setpoint control. Using these testing environments, a direct comparison of different rL approaches is presented, which could guide the algorithm selection in future rL applications for batch process control. Furthermore, the results obtained with a traditional control method, model predictive control (MPC), are shown to provide a baseline for comparison with rL algorithms. The results show that rL has significant applicability in various control tasks and has comparable control performance to traditional methods but with a lower online computational cost. A batch bioreactor simulation and a simulation of an industrial polyol process are used for illustration purposes. © 2022 American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
