Proportionate adaptive filters can improve the convergence speed for the identification of sparse systems as compared to their conventional counterparts. In this paper, the idea of proportionate adaptation is combined with the framework of set-membership filtering (SMF) in an attempt to derive novel computationally efficient algorithms. The resulting algorithms attain an attractive faster converge for both situations of sparse and dispersive channels while decreasing the computational complexity due to the data discerning feature of the SMF approach. Simulations show good results in terms of reduced number of updates, speed of convergence, and final meansquared error.

The very low sensitivity properties of switched-capacitor filtering structures implemented as a parallel connection of two allpass sections has already been demonstrated theoretically and verified by computer simulation. This paper describes the design of a fifth-order lowpass elliptic filter using this technique, to satisfy specifications commonly used in video frequency applications. Operating with a sampling frequency of 16 MHz, the IC prototype was implemented in a standard double-poly CMOS 0.8 μm process. The experimental results obtained with the fabricated IC showed a passband frequency deviation smaller than 0.08 dB up to the passband edge frequency of 3.4 MHz, and an output noise power of 0.97 μVRMS/√Hz, resulting in a dynamic range of 49.1 dB.

The idea of "multiple resonance networks" is reviewed and extended to networks with the structure of band-pass LC ladders. This realization combines the properties of the previously described low-pass and high-pass realizations. It allows the generation, for example, of triple resonance networks with a transformer at one side and capacitive coupling at the other, overcoming the limitations in voltage gain of high-pass realizations. A simple transformation allows the generation of networks with single input and balanced output.

A methodology for testing switched-capacitor filters implemented by the parallel connection of structurally allpass sections is presented. The proposed approach enables multiple fault detection and accurate estimation of the actually implemented parameter values. The technique is applied to a lowpass fifth-order elliptic filter designed on a standard double-poly, double-metal 0.8 μm CMOS technology, satisfying typical specifications for video communication applications. In this case the relative area needed for testing is only 8% of the total filter area, and it decreases as the filter order increases.

In this article we derive conditions for existence of zero-forcing multiuser detectors which achieve perfect reconstruction of the transmitted symbols. Compared to similar works in the literature, the derived conditions allow a reduction in the length of the equalizer filters, while imposing no constraints on the channel order and on the order of the precoder filters. Since the analysis is carried out in time domain, time-varying filters are also considered.
