One of the most essential problems during negotiations is to know what people aim to claim. Although it sounds strange, most professionals go into the negotiation table without enough preparation. Regarding preparation it is important to understand that this is the stage when professionals have to anticipate the counterpart's interests, alternatives, concessions and possible changes in strategy. Experienced negotiators usually keep in their mind the whole negotiation and, most of the time, they still have personal notes about the deal. Indeed, people have memory limits and this may disrupt even the cleverest ones. Therefore, Negotiation Support systems can help to store this information and also manipulate it in the future. In this direction, this work presents an environment focused on a negotiation preparation step, mainly considering knowledge management and mobile technologies. The article shows how these concepts may carry out the preparation stage, advantages to use it and available reports. Besides, some experiments and results will be also addressed in this work.

It has been known that Information Technology (IT) area has increasingly demanded more professionals over the years. In Brazil this reality is even more evident - this emerging and large country, the expanded search for IT professionals still faces difficulty in finding skilled labor. Moreover, this difficulty is accentuated during the definition of teams, due to the diversity of expertise of each professional. In this direction, this article focuses on how to discover and manage cognitive and behavioral aspects of IT professionals. Based on psychological questionnaires and negotiation games, this work aims at analyzing types of behavior (logically reasoning people, creative people, communicative people and organized people), aspects of collaborative and competitive issues elucidates how the predominance of a specific stereotype can influence negotiations among IT people. The results were obtained in a Brazilian context, involving technical and management staff, with IT people and non-IT people.

Organizations have been relying on collaboration for productivity improvement and knowledge sharing. The first step to foster collaboration in organizations is to make it explicit. With this aim, the Collaboration Maturity Model (CollabMM) was proposed and evaluated. The lessons learned during model applications in previous work pointed out the need to review both the model and its evaluation instruments. A literature review also showed some improvement opportunities. Therefore, the objective of this work is to develop a roadmap to highlight the main opportunities of evolution in CollabMM. These opportunities will compose our research agenda in this topic and guide future work.

The treatment of economic and social issues in Software engineering (SE) was pointed out as a challenge for the next years, since SE needs to treat issues beyond the technical side, which requires observing it in another perspective. In this sense, this paper revisits the concept of components in SE through a sociotechnical construction. Based on a ranking of its critical elements, a study shows that components are assets in a set of collaborative/local environments more than in global/corporate markets. So, an approach called Brechó-VCM was proposed to treat some of these elements, providing an environment to discuss the future of Software Reuse on a software ecosystem perspective. These analyses, as well as their results, reinforce that SE community needs to learn with the components case and effectively looks at SE future in a sociotechnical way. © 2010 ACM.

Creation, interpretation, and evolution of models and diagrams are activities commonly performed in software projects, and the teaching of such activities is fundamental for software engineering education. However, it is difficult to see the changes made in model corrections, evolutions, or maintenance done by the student, as well as by the teacher, comparing templates and different solutions. In this regard, this paper presents the use of the PREViA approach, which aims at visualizing software architecture models. This work focuses on supporting teaching and learning in the modeling education context. A feasibility study was conducted and its results provided positive evidences of the use of the approach in the correction of diagrams. © 2010 IEEE.

The city of Rio de Janeiro will host the 2016 Olympic and Paralympics Games. Several improvements are being planned for the city in order to prepare it for the so called Rio 2016 event. This sequence of developments will be decided by a Local Committee and many people enthusiastic to participate should contribute by sending ideas and actually collaborate in the planning process. To assist this huge task force, our paper intends to use decision support systems techniques and cognitive means through different approaches in order to aid large groups in their discussions, their alternatives generation and all group choosing process. This work presents a semantic search method in the LaSca system for the MUTIRÕ project, which explores the coordination in a Large Scale decision support system. The importance of a locale semantic search comparing to a classical search method is that most contributors are not formal and well behaved in language structure, using lots of slang and alternative means of communication. As Brazil is a continental country it created several local ways of communications that vary from place to place creating additional difficulties for a search tool. A smart thesaurus must be constructed through semi-automatic means and a search engine should be crated to allow feasible searches by the users. The main task of this project is to help groups interested in the Rio 2016 success taking into account socioeconomic and geographical aspects.

A major activity performed by the manager before starting a software project is tailoring its development process. Such activity requires information about the context under which the project will be executed, including organizational, project, and team characteristics. In addition, it also requires pondering many factors and evaluating all existing constraints. In this scenario, we claim that a balance between collaboration and discipline can be the drivers to tailor software development processes in order to meet project and organization needs. With the purpose of facilitating this balancing, it is possible to automate some of the steps to solve the problem, reducing the effort required to execute this task and improving the obtained process. Therefore, this work presents an optimization-based approach where the balancing in process tailoring is defined, modeled and briefly analyzed. This approach uses collaboration and discipline as utility functions to select the most appropriate process for a software development project, considering its current context. © 2010 IEEE.

Software differs from most manufactured products because it is intangible. This characteristic makes it difficult to detect, control, and understand how it evolves. This paper presents an approach based on software visualization that can detect and externalize design evolution made in a software project during its initial development or at any further phase. By using this approach, a developer can be aware of the current state of the software as a whole and can additionally verify if the current design, also called emerging design, is evolving according to the team expectations and leader guidance, preventing problems caused by misunderstandings of the expected software solution. The approach was evaluated with free/open source software (FOSS) projects. The results indicate that the approach behaves as expected when applied to real software development projects, with minor performance bottlenecks. © 2010 The Brazilian computer Society.

This paper describes a collaborative tool, ARARA (Artifacts and Requirements Awareness Reinforcement Agents), that provides awareness in Software Development Process (SDP). Ontologies support this application for they are used by project team members when preparing the artifacts, propagating the concepts through them, and used by agents as knowledge base to retrieve information, tag the artifacts, detect changes, and search for linked artifacts that may be affected by a change on a previous artifact. This collaborative tool can improve team members awareness automatically no matter where they are geographically working, once agents are responsible for tracking and notifying requirements, or any other changes, to team members, including consequent candidates for modifications. © 2010 IEEE.

Neither traditional, agile or free/open software development models can be effective to all projects contexts. We claim that collaboration and discipline can be the driver to tailor software development processes to meet projects and organizations needs.
