This paper's main goal is to structure an initial research on the Software Ecosystem (SECO) field, regarding the so called CAMSS (Cloud, Analytics, Mobile, Social and Security) and IoT (Internet of Things) technologies. Our main goal is to share our first ideas and some observations we have been conducting in an empirical way. As such, Cloud SECOs bring the ecosystem environment to another level, with new challenges in all three dimensions: technology, social and business. Besides that, we have been observing a possible shift in the center of some SECOs, i.e., Those "things" connected to the Internet have introduced new players - at least in the sense they interact with the environment by providing data. As new software architectures and technologies emerge to support the new scenario being drawn, our research tries to characterize this new ecosystem and identify challenges, providing a roadmap that could help new entrants.

Collaborative visualization is a study field that emerged by combining computer-supported cooperative work (CSCW) and information visualization. The main goal is to analyze how visualization techniques can be used to support collaboration. One of the key aspects for the effective use of visual representations as a facilitator for collaboration is the analysis of how this feature influences collaborative work The aim of this paper is to present a study which considered the use of visualization techniques for supporting the collaboration process from a 3C collaboration model perspective. More specifically, we analyzed the influence of techniques from the user's perspective. A case study was conducted to investigate the relationship of visualization techniques with activities performed by users in a software development scenario. The results of the case study show that visualization techniques influence collaborative tasks.

Software development comprises the execution of a variety of tasks, such as bug discovery, finding reusable assets, dependency analysis etc. A better understanding of the task at hand and its surroundings can improve the development performance in general. Software visualizations can support such understanding by addressing different issues according to the necessity of stakeholders. However, knowing which visualizations better fit a given task in progress is not a trivial skill. In this sense, a feature model, intended for organizing the knowledge of a given domain and allowing the reuse of components, can support the identification, categorization and selection of information visualization elements. This work presents an ongoing domain analysis performed for building an information visualization feature model, whose goal is to support the process of choosing and building proper, suitable software visualizations. Collaboration monitoring in software process is important to check if the collaboration is indeed happening as planned, but there are few approaches that define how to measure and monitor collaboration. By assessing collaboration during an ongoing process execution, project managers can take corrective actions that might improve the process execution and, consequently, reflect on quality gains of the final product. This research work proposes to evaluate the level of coordination achieved by a running software process through social network analysis metrics. © 2014 Springer International Publishing.

Music tracking is a useful technique for many music related tasks. Some applications include evaluating musicians performance, automatic score page turning and syncing music lyrics. In this work, we describe a WiSARD-based system for real-time music tracking and evaluate the performance of the corresponding implementation. Given any audio example, the system is capable of recognizing which point of the original signal is currently playing and of dynamically tracking it. In other words, if the music restarts or jumps to another position, the system is capable of following it. This is accomplished thanks to the low complexity training and classifying of the models used, which continually keep track of all possible points of the music, and not only of the current neighboring region. Experiments are provided in order to analyze the performance of the system in three test scenarios: tracking continuous playing, tracking multiple jumps and self predicting errors. The final results demonstrate that the system is efficient even when applied to musics with some level of repetitions and short periods of silence.

The software industry has evolved to a multiple-product development created on a platform and based on a common architecture integrated to other systems. This integration happens through components and third-party developers networks in Software Ecosystems (SECOs). Since systems and software development processes present challenges beyond the technical side, SECOs have emerged as an approach to improve the Software engineering (SE) mindset in the industry. This fact changes the software industry as it requires the management of an integrated social-based environment to support a transition from an intra-organizational to an open business model approach towards a SECO approach. In this context, social networks can be important to coordinate a collaborative and distributed environment to develop SECOs platforms. This paper analyses the impact of social networks in SECOs through an integrated framework of the SECO and social network challenges. So, a proposal for a sociotechnical-based architecture to support the SECOs lifecycle is discussed.

Given a set of underwater sensors coordinates that are usually determined by a specialist for the design of a watershed monitoring system, where should be placed the sinks and the base station? The answer may be the minimization of the Variable Internode Distance. In such cases, a two dimensional architecture is acceptable because it is a shallow water system. Hence, in this paper, it is proposed a two-level node distance minimization for Underwater Wireless Sensor Network for monitoring systems. The mathematical method employed for optimization is the Hyperbolic Smoothing approach and the proposed method includes the placement of the base-station in the algorithm. Copyright 2014 ACM.

Crowdsourcing is both a new paradigm of collaboration and a new frontier for CSCWD. Since its introduction in 2006, the notion of Crowdsourcing has been the object of a number of studies. Crowdsourcing has a multidisciplinary nature with a huge diversity of applications that encompasses many practices. The concepts that shape crowdsourcing are still under construction and it is difficult to reach a consensus. Based on this scenario, this paper proposes a meta-model which aims to fit generic solutions related to a specific subset of crowdsourcing designed to accomplish a specific task: Data Collection and Participatory Sensing to leverage the engagement of volunteers with science and Environmental issues. © 2014 IEEE.

Software development projects with geographically disperse teams, especially when use UML models for code generation, may gain performance by using tools with collaborative capabilities. This study reviews the distributed collaborative UML editors available in the literature. The UML Editors were compared using a Workstyle Model. Then, we discuss the fundamental challenges which these kind of UML Editors face to assist distributed developers and stakeholders across disperse locations.
