Developing and evolving critical information systems in order to cope with changes in regulations and laws is a constant worry for governments in the e-Government era. Due to the frequent challenges and some previous frustrating experiences, the Brazilian Government has searched for an alternative development method that could better fit its needs. At the same time, Brazilian Academia, represented in this case by the computer science Department of coppe/ufrj, has been researching how to bridge the gaps in order to harness the promise of Model-Driven Architecture in real life projects. A successful partnership between both started in 2005, which gave birth to a complete MDA development environment that would later be known as MDArte. The MDArte framework has been freely available since 2009 through the SPB portal (Brazilian Public Software Portal - ***) and throughout its construction and evolution more than a dozen real projects have been built and maintained. During the development of such real life projects a lot of critical organizational aspects raised. The main contribution of this paper is to reveal and motivate the discussion on such organizational aspects that must be faced when deciding to adopt an MDA approach. In order to contextualize our perceptions, we present the MDArte experience, including its origin, evolution and current state. The major challenging and complex systems that have been developed with MDArte are presented as success cases along with an analysis of the benefits of using a Model Driven Development (MDD) approach.

The essence of the software ecosystem concept encourages external developers to interact with a software platform, enabling them to contribute or evolve such platform. Trying to expand a product into a platform on which components, services and applications can be created, a company may provide the basis for an ecosystem and its life cycle. In this paper, we describe the evolution process of an application towards an ecosystem using current models and taking into account the reuse of an existing software system. The application DiaDia has been developed for smartphones and its main function consists in helping the treatment of diabetic patients. Two different models are used to discuss the transition of the application to an ecosystem: one is an adaptation of the Software Supply Network which represents the main actors that interact with the ecosystem, and the other covers the process of creating an application and its evolution to an ecosystem through Business Process Model and Notation. © 2013 ACM.

The treatment of economic and social issues in Software engineering was pointed out as a challenge in the coming years. Organizations have opened up their platforms and assets to others, including partners and third-party developers around the world, generating software ecosystems (SECOs). SECOs research can contribute to minimize nontechnical barriers of software reuse in industry because it explores potential relations among companies and stakeholders. However, an inhibitor is the complexity in defining value for reusable assets. This paper presents an extension of the Brechó-EcoSys environment to support components negotiations in reuse repositories. The focus is on complementing the stakeholders' value proposition and realization, as well as incorporating a nontechnical mechanism in components repositories. © 2013 IEEE.

The treatment of economic and social issues in Software engineering was pointed out as a challenge for the next years. Companies and organizations have directly (or not) opened up their software platforms and assets to others, including partners and third-party developers around the world, generating software ecosystems (SECOs). This changes the traditional software industry because it requires mature research in software requirements and architecture in an environment where business models and socio-technical networks can impact the management of the platforms' needs and demands overtime. However, one strong inhibitor is the complexity in defining and modeling SECOs elements to improve their comprehension and analysis and their impacts on requirements engineering. So, this paper introduces an approach to support SECO definition and modeling based on the SECOs domain. The goal consists in dealing with the stakeholders' value proposition and realization in SECOs, as well as treating nontechnical issues in components and social repositories.

Information Technology (IT) supports companies' business processes and decision making through the use of technologies and tools that are provided by suppliers. Companies that are suppliers and consumers establish relationships through contracts of purchasing products and consulting, for example. These relationships, i.e., the companies involved and the information exchanged between the parties are considered elements of Software Ecosystems (SECOs). All of these elements can be considered SECO assets and need to be supported via SECO governance since their organization and evolution represent an IT Architecture. So, IT companies or their IT divisions can use the ISO/IEC 19770 standard for Software Asset Management (SAM) in order to control costs and optimize software investments. In this sense, this paper describes a SECO Governance approach for enabling an IT Architecture based on SAM. © 2013 IEEE.

Dynamic adaptation is the customization of a business process to make it applicable to a particular situation at any time of its life cycle. Adapting requires experience, and involves knowledge about various, internal and external, aspects of business. Thus, we argue for the application of adaptation rules, considering the context of a particular process instance. Furthermore, we state that a context-based adaptation environment should go beyond, and learn from decisions, as well as continuously identify new unforeseen situations (context definitions). The aim of this paper is to present a computational engine that infers the need to update situations and adaptation rules, suggesting changes to them. An application scenario is presented to discuss the usage of the proposal.

The advance of Internet and mobile technologies makes the use of these elements become increasingly comprehensive, and distance learning is an area that takes many advantages of these technologies. Some tools and systems help this process, but the most important tool is e-learning. A more contemporary version of e-learning is the one found in mobiles devices, the m-learning system. The rapid advance of these technologies and their high dissemination determine this area as an important point in the decision makers' learning process. Following this point of view, this paper proposes a learning tool involving aspects of e-learning and m-learning for negotiators. This work will discuss how these tools can support professionals during the learning process of preparation step of negotiations. What is more, comparative and initial results will also be presented.

Recent crowd sourcing tools are changing the Education. However, each tool has a specific approach, business model and e-Learning goals. Due the increasing contribution of crowd sourcing in the e-Learning process, it has become important to study it and map the challenges intrinsic to this activity. This work discusses and classifies several crowd sourcing e-Learning tools that can be found in the Internet. We defined and used eleven dimensions to classify the 22 tools found, ranging from online Universities to marketplaces for online courses. The work contributions are: provide the first map the crowd sourcing tools and a framework for classify the future tools.
