Information Technology (IT) is strategic for organization management, although many companies lack IT governance and planning, skilled people, defined and institutionalized methods and procedures, internal controls and indicators, as well as agreements service levels and information security, legality, and economy. In this scenario, one needs a minimum of organization and control in the use of resources to boost technical and administrative efficiency, with a focus on IT governance. An Information Technology Strategic Plan (ITSP) aims at discovering the resources and IT in an organization, to direct the technological and information architecture to its strategic objectives. The Brazilian Government issued a Normative Instruction (NI04) for public organizations to develop IT Strategic Plans so that they can purchase products and services. In order to help organizations develop, control and manage their ITSPs, a model was created that defines a set of auxiliary steps in the construction of the ITSP. Throughout this article we present a ITSP development and management model, its evaluation, and our conclusions after that. © 2012 IADIS.

BPMN 2.0 is a widely used notation to model business process that has associated tools and techniques to facilitate process management, execution and monitoring. As a result using BPMN to model Software Development Process (SDP) can leverage on the BPMN's infrastructure to improve SDP quality. Nevertheless, when using BPMN to model Software Processes one can observe the lack of an important feature: means to represent process tailoring. This article introduces the BPMNt, a conservative extension to BPMN that aims at aggregating a tailoring representation mechanism as the one found at SPEM 2.0. BPMNt uses the extensibility classes already present in the BPMN meta-model. Our work also presents an example to illustrate the approach. © 2012 IEEE.

Economic and social issues were pointed out as Software engineering (SE) challenges for the next years, since the field needs to treat issues beyond the technical side, which requires observing it in another perspective. In this sense, Software Ecosystems (SECOs) have emerged as an approach to improve software reuse in global software development (GSD) industry considering relations among companies and stakeholders around the world. Companies and organizations have opened up their platforms and artifacts to others, including partners and third-part developers. This scenario changes the traditional software industry and requires mature research in software architecture, component-based software engineering and software product line (SPL) in a global market and business environment. So, GSD requires linking an architectural, a business and a social-based environment in an integrated way, as well as a focus on SECO-based management and engineering. This concern motivated a proposal of a "3+1" framework for SECOs management and engineering called Reuse ECOS. The approach aims at outlining a set of steps that combines those three dimensions and joins different perspectives in SECOs literature from a survey through a research strategy and a solution proposal for GSD with SECO and SPL. It was observed that SECO concepts can be merged in a broader GSD approach in SE industry. © 2012 IEEE.

Business processes are dynamic and constantly evolving. Contextual elements that had not yet been identified and represented can arise and influence the execution of each process instance in diverse manners. In this scenario, the identification of these elements is considered of great importance. In the modern world of developing industries, people see a growing importance of negotiation skills. Businessmen come to the negotiation table as frequently as problems occur between two or more parties. Therefore, it is essential to evaluate negotiation skills of an individual and practice them as much as possible. Contemporary technologies like computers and cell phones have made it possible to create special interactive programs which serve as a platform for practicing deals. Specific software is aimed at developing decision-making approaches by various means and tools and enables negotiators to come to mutually beneficial agreements with higher frequency and efficiency. Each program is useful in its own way and can be applied differently by negotiators all over the world. Therefore, this article shows an e-learning tool in which people can discover and improve their negotiation skills though several types of computational mechanisms. Comparisons and initial results are also mentioned in this work.

The creation of tools, techniques and methodologies to support the manipulation of large data sets has been receiving special attention of both scientific and industrial communities, in order to discover new ways of dealing with the underlying information, including learning purposes, identification of patterns, decision making support, amongst others. However, making use of computing resources to enhance awareness and understanding of software information and the software itself is still a challenge in software/systems engineering, since it involves the identification of suitable mechanisms, adequate abstractions, and studies on stimulation of the human perceptive and cognitive abilities. This paper presents some of the challenges in this context, based on current trends of software development lifecycle, program comprehension, and software engineering education. At the end, a special focus is given on ongoing research on using and improving current mechanisms for supporting software reuse practices and software comprehension in general. © 2012 IEEE.

Despite advances in the requirements elicitation techniques, researchers show that even today software engineers cannot understand exactly what a product should offer to meet user needs and expectations. This paper aims to propose a new strategy to assist the process of requirements categorization, so that it becomes possible to extract from the user what he really expects of a product. The proposed framework is based on the concepts of requirements categorization established by Noriaki Kano, and on previous studies focused on collective intelligence, to propose different approaches to extract from the crowd the necessary knowledge to classify requirements and decide what should be prioritized and what should not, according to user expectations. © 2012 IEEE.

Collaboration is important for productivity, quality, and knowledge sharing in software development. In this context, the use of social networks analysis can help to track the level of collaboration in a development project. In this work, an exploratory study was conducted, in the context of free/open source software, using EvolTrack-SocialNetwork tool, to investigate collaboration in software teams. The preliminary results indicate a potential to increase one's ability to understand the course that the collaboration is taking. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

According to some researchers, the wave of crowds we are witnessing in recent years is another example of the challenges for the CSCW community, a line of research that fights against the dilemma of fragmentation. The reflexes of this phenomena in projects of different branches have caused a change of paradigm in how products and services are idealized and how the projects are conducted in a collaborative way. Successful examples have attracted the attention of entrepreneurs in various areas and increased the business vocabulary with terms like crowd wisdom, crowdsourcing, crowdfunding and open innovation. It is a different reality from the one we are used to in the context of groupware systems, and it brings new challenges that leave some relevant open research questions. This paper proposes a characterization of crowd computing systems, contextualizing the design activity within this domain, presents a research agenda in the context of CSCW and discusses possible implications of the mass phenomena on the line of action of the community of computer Supported Cooperative Work in Design. © 2012 IEEE.

Economic and social issues are pointed out as Software engineering (SE) challenges for the next years, since the field needs to treat issues beyond the technical side. These challenges require analyzing the field of SE from another perspective. In this sense, the study of software ecosystems (SECOs) is an emerging discipline that investigates the relationships among companies in the software industry. Companies work cooperatively and competitively in order to achieve their strategic objectives. They must engage in a new perspective, now also including third parties motivations and movements in the ecosystem, besides their own business viewpoint. Inspired on properties of natural and business ecosystems, SECO covers technical and business aspects of software development as well as partnership among companies. In this paper, we undertake a review on SECOs status as an emerging research topic in SE community. We map what is currently known about SECOs and also analyze them in a three-dimensional perspective in SE, i.e., technical, business and social. We observed that SECOs research is concentrated in eight main areas in which the most relevant ones are open source software, ecosystem modeling, and business issues. This paper also contributes to summarize the body of knowledge and presents a research agenda in SECOs. © 2012 IEEE.
