The creation of tools, techniques and methodologies to support the manipulation of large data sets has been receiving special attention of both scientific and industrial communities, in order to discover new ways of dealing with the underlying information, including learning purposes, identification of patterns, decision making support, amongst others. However, making use of computing resources to enhance awareness and understanding of software information and the software itself is still a challenge in software/systems engineering, since it involves the identification of suitable mechanisms, adequate abstractions, and studies on stimulation of the human perceptive and cognitive abilities. This paper presents some of the challenges in this context, based on current trends of software development lifecycle, program comprehension, and software engineering education. At the end, a special focus is given on ongoing research on using and improving current mechanisms for supporting software reuse practices and software comprehension in general.

PatternLab for proteomics is a self-contained computational environment for analyzing shotgun proteomic data. Recent improvements incorporate modules to facilitate the computational analysis, such as FastaDBXtractor for sequence database preparation and ProLuCID runner for simplifying and managing the protein identification search engine;modules for pushing the limits on proteomics standards, such as SEPro, which relies on a semi-labeled decoy approach for increasing confidence in filtering and organizing peptide spectrum matches;and modules with novel features, such as SEProQ for enabling labelfree quantitation by extracted ion chromatograms according to a distributed normalized ion abundance factor approach (dNIAF). Existing modules were also improved, such as the TFold module for pinpointing differentially expressed proteins. These new modules are integrated into the previously described arsenal of tools for further data analysis. Here we provide detailed instructions for operating and understanding them. © 2012 by John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

It has been known that Information Technology (IT) area has increasingly demanded more professionals over the years. In Brazil this reality is even more evident - this emerging and large country, the expanded search for IT professionals still faces difficulty in finding skilled labor. Moreover, this difficulty is accentuated during the definition of teams, due to the diversity of expertise of each professional. In this direction, this article focuses on how to discover and manage cognitive and behavioral aspects of IT professionals. Based on psychological questionnaires and negotiation games, this work aims at analyzing types of behavior (logically reasoning people, creative people, communicative people and organized people), aspects of collaborative and competitive issues elucidates how the predominance of a specific stereotype can influence negotiations among IT people. The results were obtained in a Brazilian context, involving technical and management staff, with IT people and non-IT people. © 2011 IEEE.

One of the most essential problems during negotiations is to know what people aim to claim. Although it sounds strange, most professionals go into the negotiation table without enough preparation. Regarding preparation it is important to understand that this is the stage when professionals have to anticipate the counterpart's interests, alternatives, concessions and possible changes in strategy. Experienced negotiators usually keep in their mind the whole negotiation and, most of the time, they still have personal notes about the deal. Indeed, people have memory limits and this may disrupt even the cleverest ones. Therefore, Negotiation Support systems can help to store this information and also manipulate it in the future. In this direction, this work presents an environment focused on a negotiation preparation step, mainly considering knowledge management and mobile technologies. The article shows how these concepts may carry out the preparation stage, advantages to use it and available reports. Besides, some experiments and results will be also addressed in this work. © 2011 IEEE.

Despite the fact that people frequently see software development as a commodity, decision-making processes in Information Technology (IT) projects usually require great effort in solving several types of conflicts. The main tool to solve such conflicts is negotiation, which requires strategies and personal skills. Preparation step is the cornerstone to lead successful deals, but one of the major issues faced by negotiators, especially beginners, is to find out when they are emotionally prepared. Regarding behavioral aspects, there are particularities in IT people's conduction, once they are more reasoning than other professionals. Thus, this work aims at presenting a research about how IT professionals face IT project's negotiations. The research was managed in Brazilian professionals and evaluated IT people's performance through psychological tests, behavioral simulations and negotiation games to set negotiator skills profile. In addition, some case studies and simulation results are presented. This exploration is important as a way to show possible characteristics of style and dominant skills used by IT people during software development deals. This study works as a fundamental starting point to realize the requirements to develop specific negotiation support systems to IT context.

Decision-making processes in any context usually require great effort in solving regular conflicts. One approach to handle conflicts is through negotiation, which requires a wide range of strategies and personal skills. Moreover, during crisis periods, enterprises tend to downsize and the remaining professionals have to improve their negotiation aptitudes in order to maintain the organization alive. Experienced negotiators assert that the preparation stage is vital to achieve successful deals, but one of the major issues faced by negotiators, especially beginners, is to realize when they are technically and emotionally ready. Regarding the psychological side, sometimes it is difficult to measure how professionals behave when initiating negotiation modeling. Under this scenario, a Web Tool has been designed to support professionals to find out their levels of proficiency and behavior trends while negotiating. Therefore, this paper aims at presenting features of this environment, which combines psychological tests, behavioral simulations and negotiation games to set the negotiator skills profile. Federal Government publishes laws and decrees daily. However, a simple search can return inconsistent information about this document, when its status has been changed later in another document through a government act like publication, grinding, re-publication, cancellation and amendment. The goal of this paper is to present the solution adopted by the Federal Budget Secretary responsible for monitoring decrees, legislation, jurisprudence and administrative actions related to federal budget control. Thus, the knowledge represented treat the lifecycle of this type of documents by adding properties such as signature date, signing authority and role of authority at time of signature, providing chronological and semantic processing on the search for document types. The RDF conceptual model for knowledge representation was adopted, since it is a standard for open data from federal government on the Web to facilitate citizen access to information, thus fulfilling the constitutional provision that defines the citizen as the holder of the access right to information. On the Case Study performed was necessary to crawl and mining Brazilian Official Gazette for documents identification of Federal Budget domain and the subsequent extraction of knowledge about the transformations undergone by each decree. © 2011 IADIS.

Dynamism of day-to-day activities in organizations is inextricably linked and there is a variety of information, insight and reasoning being processed between people and systems, in carrying out a business process. We argue that flexibility in processes could be managed in real time, using context information collected in the work environment. This paper proposes a context management architecture approach that aims to improve and automate dynamic process adaptation. We explain how process adaptation may occur in real time and discuss a scenario for this proposal © 2011 IEEE.

The Ray Tracing rendering algorithm can produce high-fidelity images of 3-D scenes, including shadow effects, as well as reflections and transparencies. This is currently done at a processing speed of at most 30 frames per second. Therefore, actual implementations of the algorithm are not yet suitable for interactive real-time rendering, which is required in games and virtual reality based applications. Fortunately, the algorithm allows for massive parallelization of its computations. In this paper, we present a parallel architecture for ray tracing based on a uniform spatial subdivision of the scene and exploiting an embedded computation of ray-triangle intersections. This approach allows for a significant acceleration of intersection computations, as well as, a reduction of the total number of the required intersections checks. Furthermore, it allows for these checks to be performed in parallel and in advance for each ray. In this paper we discuss and analyze an ASIP-based implementation using FPGAs and a GPGPU-based parallel implementation of the proposed architecture. The performance of both implementations are reported and compared." © 2011 IEEE.

The combination of testing techniques is considered an effective strategy to evaluate a software product. However, the selection of which techniques to combine in a software project has been an interesting challenge in the Software engineering field. This paper presents a proposal extending an approach developed to support the combined selection of model-based testing (MBT) techniques, named Porantim, applying Multiobjective Combinatorial Optimization strategy by determining the smallest dominating set in a bipartite and weighted graph. Thus, a local search strategy algorithm is proposed generating solutions aiming at maximizing the coverage of software project characteristics and skills required by the testing team to use the techniques and minimizing the eventual effort to construct models used for test cases generation. A preliminary evaluation analyzes this new approach when compared to the Porantim's original version, and the results indicate improvements in the MBT techniques selection. © 2011 IEEE.
