Optical mapping provides single-molecule readouts of the locations of fluorescently labeled sequence motifs on long fragments of DNA, resolved to nucleotide-level coordinates. With the advent of microfluidic technologies for manipulating large numbers of individual molecules, and advances in the imaging of fluorescent DNA tags, it is possible to inexpensively generate high coverage and long OM molecules (>150Kbp). In addition to its use in scaffolding for de novo assembly, optical map data can also be mapped to a reference for identifying genetic structural variants implicated in Mendelian diseases and cancer. To address the computational challenge, we introduce FaNDOM (Fast Nested Distance seeding of Optical Maps) - an optical map alignment tool which greatly reduces the search space of the alignment process. On 4 benchmark human data-sets, FaNDOM was significantly (4-14X) faster than competing tools while maintaining comparable sensitivity and specificity. We used FaNDOM to map variants in 3 cancer cell-lines and identified many structural variations, including deletion of tumor-suppressor genes, duplications, gene fusions and gene-disrupting rearrangements. Speaker-Specific Articulatory Feature Extraction Based on Knowledge Distillation for Speaker Recognition

This paper proposes a novel speaker-specific articulatory feature (AF) extraction model based on knowledge distillation (KD) for speaker recognition. First, an AF extractor is trained as a teacher model for extracting the AF profiles of the input speaker dataset. Next, a KD-based speaker embedding extraction method is proposed to distill the speaker-specific information from the AF profiles in the teacher model to a student model based on multi-task learning, in which the lower layers not only capture the speaker characteristics from acoustic features, but also learn the speaker-specific features from the AF profiles for robust speaker representation. Finally, speaker embeddings are extracted from the high-level layer, and the obtained speaker embeddings are further used to train a probabilistic linear discriminant analysis (PLDA) model for speaker recognition. In the experiments, speaker embedding models were trained using the VoxCeleb2 dataset and the AF extractor was trained based on the LibriSpeech dataset, and the performance was evaluated using the VoxCeleb1 dataset. The experiments showed that the proposed KD-based models outperformed the baseline models without KD. Furthermore, feature concatenation of multimodal results can further improve the performance.

IT Governance are one of the needs in managing Enterprise Level IT. This study shows part of the decision domain of IT Governance Help, which are IT Investment and Prioritization. The purpose of this study is to determine feasibility of implementation open source ERP system Odoo project management module that replaces current system based on operational, economic, and technical aspects. The method used are Fit/Gap Analysis and Cost Benefit model using economic impact worksheet. The analysis is done by comparing the requirement with features owned by current system and Odoo ERP system. This research resulted that Odoo ERP System is feasible in the 3 aspects, the operational feasibility Odoo reaching 72% Fit, the economic feasibility with ROI of 84%, and technical feasibility indicating the technical requirement can be fulfilled by leasing AWS server. The conclusion is the open source ERP system Odoo project management module is feasible to be applied in terms of 3 aspects that have been studied, those are operational, economic, and technical. © 2019 IEEE.

The palm oil business employs almost 20 million people, generates USD 21 billion in revenue, and plays a vital role in Indonesia’s social economy. The Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB) to Palm Oil Mills (POM) distribution system is one important aspect of fruit quality. Three steps are involved in getting Oil Palm FFB from the plantation to the POM. The first part of the procedure involves cutting FFB from the tree, the second stage involves gathering the fruit at a fruit collection point (FCP), and the third stage involves transporting the fruit to the palm oil mill (POM). As of now, the cost of the FFB transportation is still considerable, accounting for roughly 15% to 20% of the FFB pricing. The use of the Business Intelligence (BI) idea in the oil palm harvesting system is presented in this study as a foundation for creating web-based applications.

Infectious disease threats to individual and public health are numerous, varied and frequently unexpected. Artificial intelligence (AI) and related technologies, which are already supporting human decision making in economics, medicine and social science, have the potential to transform the scope and power of infectious disease epidemiology. Here we consider the application to infectious disease modelling of AI systems that combine machine learning, computational statistics, information retrieval and data science. We first outline how recent advances in AI can accelerate breakthroughs in answering key epidemiological questions and we discuss specific AI methods that can be applied to routinely collected infectious disease surveillance data. Second, we elaborate on the social context of AI for infectious disease epidemiology, including issues such as explainability, safety, accountability and ethics. Finally, we summarize some limitations of AI applications in this field and provide recommendations for how infectious disease epidemiology can harness most effectively current and future developments in AI. © Springer Nature Limited 2025.

Real-time, guaranteed safe trajectory planning is vital for navigation in unknown environments. However, real-time navigation algorithms typically sacrifice robustness for computation speed. Alternatively, provably safe trajectory planning tends to be too computationally intensive for real-time replanning. We propose FaSTrack, Fast and Safe Tracking, a framework that achieves both real-time replanning and guaranteed safety. In this framework, real-time computation is achieved by allowing any trajectory planner to use a simplified planning model of the system. The plan is tracked by the system, represented by a more realistic, higher dimensional tracking model. We precompute the tracking error bound (TEB) due to mismatch between the two models and due to external disturbances. We also obtain the corresponding tracking controller used to stay within the TEB. The precomputation does not require prior knowledge of the environment. We demonstrate FaSTrack using Hamilton-Jacobi reachability for precomputation and three different real-time trajectory planners with three different tracking-planning model pairs. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

The aquaculture industry faces significant challenges related to sustainability, productivity, and fish welfare. Key issues include managing environmental conditions, disease, pests, and data integration from various sensors and monitoring systems. The BigFish project aims to address these challenges through advanced analytics and machine learning, focusing on three case studies in Atlantic salmon farms: predicting oxygen levels, reducing sea lice infestations, and improving data interaction and visualization. Predictive models for oxygen levels and sea lice infestation, as well as natural language interfaces for data visualization, demonstrate the potential for improved decision-making and management practices in aquaculture. Early results indicate the effectiveness of these approaches, highlighting the importance of data-driven solutions in enhancing industry sustainability and productivity.

Simplified belief-dependent reward mcts planning with guaranteed tree consistency

Partially Observable Markov Decision Processes (POMDPs) are notoriously hard to solve. Most advanced state-of-the-art online solvers leverage ideas of Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS). These solvers rapidly converge to the most promising branches of the belief tree, avoiding the suboptimal sections. Most of these algorithms are designed to utilize straightforward access to the state reward and assume the belief-dependent reward is nothing but expectation over the state reward. Thus, they are inapplicable to a more general and essential setting of belief-dependent rewards. One example of such reward is differential entropy approximated using a set of weighted particles of the belief. Such an information-theoretic reward introduces a significant computational burden. In this paper, we embed the paradigm of simplification into the MCTS algorithm. In particular, we present Simplified Information-Theoretic Particle Filter Tree (SITH-PFT), a novel variant to the MCTS algorithm that considers information-theoretic rewards but avoids the need to calculate them completely. We replace the costly calculation of information-theoretic rewards with adaptive upper and lower bounds. These bounds are easy to calculate and tightened only by the demand of our algorithm. Crucially, we guarantee precisely the same belief tree and solution that would be obtained by MCTS, which explicitly calculates the original information-theoretic rewards. Our approach is general;namely, any converging to the reward bounds can be easily plugged-in to achieve substantial speedup without any loss in performance. © 2021, CC BY.

A Normal Distribution Transform-Based Radar Odometry Designed For Scanning and Automotive Radars

Existing radar sensors can be classified into automotive and scanning radars. While most radar odometry (RO) methods are only designed for a specific type of radar, our RO method adapts to both scanning and automotive radars. Our RO is simple yet effective, where the pipeline consists of thresholding, probabilistic submap building, and an NDT-based radar scan matching. The proposed RO has been tested on two public radar datasets: the Oxford Radar RobotCar dataset and the nuScenes dataset, which provide scanning and automotive radar data respectively. The results show that our approach surpasses state-of-the-art RO using either automotive or scanning radar by reducing translational error by 51% and 30%, respectively, and rotational error by 17% and 29%, respectively. Besides, we show that our RO achieves centimeter-level accuracy as lidar odometry, and automotive and scanning RO have similar accuracy. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.
