Light-based signal processing in the spatial domain enables parallel computation, resulting in faster operations in comparison to digital-based systems. We propose a basic platform to realize spatial differentiation and integration of the impinging wavefront using a basic array of electric/magnetic dipoles. We also leverage bianisotropic inclusions to realize odd operations on the impinging wavefront. Our results show that a single array of polarizable particles enables sufficient degrees of freedom to realize optical analog computing using metasurfaces. © 2018 IEEE.

Metagratings are two-dimensional periodic arrays of individual scatterers that enable highly-efficient extreme wave transformation which was impossible using conventional metasurfaces. We review our recent progress in this area and, notably, discuss metagrating designs based on asymmetric electric dipoles that are practically easier to realize compared to bianisotropic inclusions. In addition, we present the design of a tunable metagrating based on graphene strips. It will be shown that the proposed structure can provide multiple functionalities by tuning just two bias voltages. The efficiency of the proposed design is only limited by dissipation in graphene. © 2018 IEEE.

Objectives: We sought to model chronic radiation-associated dysphagia (RAD) in patients given intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) for oropharyngeal squamous cell cancer (OPSCC) as a function of age and dose to non-target swallowing muscles. Methods: We reviewed 300 patients with T1-T4 N0-3 M0 OPSCC given definitive IMRT with concurrent chemotherapy. Chronic RAD was defined as aspiration or stricture on videoflouroscopy/endoscopy, gastrostomy tube, or aspiration pneumonia at >= 12 months after IMRT. Doses to autosegmented regions of interest (ROIs;inferior, middle and superior constrictors, anterior and posterior digastrics, mylo/geniohyoid complex, intrinsic tongue, and gengioglossus) were obtained from DICOM-RT plans and dose-volume histograms. The probability of chronic RAD as a function of mean ROI dose, stratified by age (<50, 50-59, 60-69, or >70 years), was estimated with logistic probability models and subsequent unsupervised nonlinear curves. Results: Chronic RAD was observed in 34 patients (11%). Age was a significant correlate of chronic RAD, both independently and with dose for all muscle groups examined. Distinct muscle-specific dose-response profiles were observed as a function of age (e.g., 5% of patients in their 50 s [but 20% of those 70 +] who received 60 Gy to the superior constrictor had chronic RAD). This effect was stable across all observed muscle ROIs, with a false discovery rate-corrected p < 0.05, for all dose/muscle/age models, suggesting that including age as a covariate improves modeling of chronic RAD. Conclusions: Age at treatment moderates the probability of chronic RAD after chemo-IMRT for OPSCC, with aging muscles showing lower dose thresholds. In persuasive negotiation dialogues, agents, with different interests and goals, exchange proposals that are supported by rhetorical arguments such as threats, rewards, or appeals. The aim of this thesis is to investigate such dialogue systems, where agents can generate rhetorical arguments in order to try to persuade their opponents, and can also construct counter-arguments, which depend on the type of the previously received argument The main contributions of this work are (i) a persuasive negotiation model that supports this kind of dialogue and (ii) the study the notion of acceptability of these kinds of arguments according to the Dung's definitions.

The crystal orientation of an exfoliated black phosphorous flake is determined by purely electrical means. A sequence of three resistance measurements on an arbitrarily shaped flake with five contacts determines the three independent components of the anisotropic in-plane resistivity tensor, thereby revealing the crystal axes. The resistivity anisotropy ratio decreases linearly with increasing temperature T and carrier density reaching a maximum ratio of 3.0 at low temperatures and densities, while mobility indicates impurity scattering at low T and acoustic phonon scattering at high T.

The learners' needs are an important factor in designing syllabus and materials design, this research deals with the syllabus and material design based on the professional's needs. It is expected that the syllabus and materials designes are communicatively applicable to the professional academy. Descriptive method is applied in this research. The sample of this research is 30 students of ATII Immanuel Academy Medan. They were selected by random sampling to get the data, the questioners were administered to students. the questioners consisted of 54 items and the semi structured interview consisted of 5 questions, the finding indicated that learners' needs were focused on reading and speaking skills. With reference appropriately and proportionally derived for students of the Professional Academy. Further on the basis of the syllabus, materials are designed in which the skills of using language become a priority. Chirality is a ubiquitous phenomenon in the natural world. Many biomolecules without inversion symmetry such as amino acids and sugars are chiral molecules. Measuring and controlling molecular chirality at a high precision down to the atomic scale are highly desired in physics, chemistry, biology, and medicine, however, have remained challenging. Herein, we achieve all-optical reconfigurable chiral meta-molecules experimentally using metallic and dielectric colloidal particles as artificial atoms or building blocks to serve at least two purposes. One is that the on-demand meta-molecules with strongly enhanced optical chirality are well-suited as substrates for surface-enhanced chiroptical spectroscopy of chiral molecules and as active components in optofluidic and nanophotonic devices. The other is that the bottom-up-assembled colloidal meta-molecules provide microscopic models to better understand the origin of chirality in the actual atomic and molecular systems. Properties of Superiorized Preconditioned Conjugate Gradient (SupPCG) algorithms in image reconstruction from projections are examined. Least squares (LS) is usually chosen for measuring data-inconsistency in these inverse problems. Preconditioned Conjugate Gradient algorithms are fast methods for finding an LS solution. However, for ill-posed problems, such as image reconstruction, an LS solution may not provide good image quality. This can be taken care of by superiorization. A superiorized algorithm leads to images with the value of a secondary criterion (a merit function such as the total variation) improved as compared to images with similar data-inconsistency obtained by the algorithm without superiorization. Numerical experimentation shows that SupPCG can lead to high-quality reconstructions within a remarkably short time. Recently, unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are widely applied in civilian and commercial areas. In order to rapidly arrange the UAVs in a variable and changeable environment, the technique of maintaining stable and reliable communication link between Ground Control Station (GCS) and UAVs is one of the main issues [1]. However, UAVs deployment can significantly increase the efficiency of missions execution and the flexibility of task allocation. As discussed by different scholars, multi-UAVs have a number of advantages depending on the application areas: disaster areas monitoring, wireless sensor data collection in precision agriculture, and relay-aided of UAVs network topology [2].

We discuss a noninvasive technique to detect glucose changes with enhanced sensitivity based on parity-time (PT) symmetry. We detect glucose level changes within the skin by measuring the frequency shift in the electromagnetic resonance induced within a PT-symmetric system that sandwiches the tissue sample under analysis. Even though the sample itself is lossy, and therefore, resonances would be damped, the introduction of balanced gain and loss enables an efficient sensing mechanism that bypasses the conventional limitations of passive sensing schemes. Our results indicate that the resonance shift can be made fairly linear with respect to the glucose concentration variations, and the expected accuracy is large. We also investigate a realistic system to implement the noninvasive PT-symmetric glucose sensor using loop antennas and negative impedance converters, exploring its sensitivity with respect to design errors and disorder.
