Graph signal processing (GSP) is a prominent framework for analyzing signals on non-Euclidean domains. The graph Fourier transform (GFT) uses the combinatorial graph Laplacian matrix to reveal the spectral decomposition of signals in the graph frequency domain. However, a common challenge in applying GSP methods is that in many scenarios the underlying graph of a system is unknown. A solution in such cases is to construct the unobserved graph from available data, which is commonly referred to as graph or network inference. Although different graph inference methods exist, these are restricted to learning from either smooth graph signals or simple additive Gaussian noise. Other types of noisy data, such as discrete counts or binary digits, are rather common in real-world applications, yet are underexplored in graph inference. In this paper, we propose a versatile graph inference framework for learning from graph signals corrupted by exponential family noise. Our framework generalizes previous methods from continuous smooth graph signals to various data types. We propose an alternating algorithm that jointly estimates the graph Laplacian and the unobserved smooth representation from the noisy signals. We also extend our approach to a variational form to account for the inherent stochasticity of the latent smooth representation. Finally, since real-world graph signals are frequently non-independent and temporally correlated, we further adapt our original setting to a time-vertex formulation. We demonstrate on synthetic and real-world data that our new algorithms outperform competing Laplacian estimation methods that suffer from noise model mismatch. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. Symmetry-driven phenomena arising in nonlocal metasurfaces supporting quasi-bound states in the continuum (q-BICs) have been opening new avenues to tailor enhanced light-matter interactions via perturbative design principles. Geometric phase concepts—observed in many physical systems—are particularly useful in nonlocal metasurfaces, as they enable to locally pattern the q-BIC scattering rate and phase across the metasurface aperture without affecting the delocalized nature of the q-BIC resonance. However, this control typically comes with stringent limitations in terms of efficiency and/or of polarization operation. Here, we unveil a new form of geometric phase control, accumulated along a continuous contour of geometric perturbations that parametrically encircle a singularity associated with a bound state. This response is obtained regardless of the chosen polarization state, which can be rationally specified by a judicious choice of the perturbation geometry. Our findings extend geometric phase concepts to arbitrary polarizations, including linear and elliptical states, with near-unity scattering efficiency. This polarization-agnostic geometric phase offers new opportunities for wavefront manipulation, multifunctional operation and light emission, with applications in augmented reality, secure communications, wireless systems, imaging, lasing, nonlinear and quantum optics. © 2023, CC BY.

Driven by advances in generative artificial intelligence (AI) techniques and algorithms, the widespread adoption of AI-generated content (AIGC) has emerged, allowing for the generation of diverse and high-quality content. Especially, the diffusion model-based AIGC technique has been widely used to generate content in a variety of modalities. However, the real-world implementation of AIGC models, particularly on resource-constrained devices such as mobile phones, introduces significant challenges related to energy consumption and privacy concerns. To further promote the realization of ubiquitous AIGC services, we propose a novel collaborative distributed diffusion-based AIGC framework. By capitalizing on collaboration among devices in wireless networks, the proposed framework facilitates the efficient execution of AIGC tasks, optimizing edge computation resource utilization. Furthermore, we examine the practical implementation of the denoising steps on mobile phones, the impact of the proposed approach on the wireless network-aided AIGC landscape, and the future opportunities associated with its real-world integration. The contributions of this paper not only offer a promising solution to the existing limitations of AIGC services but also pave the way for future research in device collaboration, resource optimization, and the seamless delivery of AIGC services across various devices. Digital elevation model (DEM) is a critical data source for variety of applications such as road extraction, hydrological modeling, flood mapping, and many geospatial studies. The usage of high-resolution DEMs as inputs in many application areas improves the overall reliability and accuracy of the raw dataset. The goal of this study is to develop a machine learning model that increases the spatial resolution of DEM without additional information. In this paper, a GAN based model (D-SRGAN), inspired by single image super-resolution methods, is developed and evaluated to increase the resolution of DEMs. The experiment results show that D-SRGAN produces promising results while constructing 3 feet high-resolution DEMs from 50 feet low-resolution DEMs. It outperforms common statistical interpolation methods and neural network *** study shows that it is possible to use the power of artificial neural networks to increase the resolution of the DEMs. The study also demonstrates that approaches from single image super-resolution can be applied for DEM super-resolution. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. part of Springer Nature.

Indonesia has enormous geothermal potential, but it only contributes 5% to Indonesia's energy matrix. During 37 years of operation, PT. Pertamina Geothermal Energy Kamojang area has been operating to produce electricity and is currently capable of supplying and distributing electricity to the Java-Bali area with a capacity of 60 MWe. However, this can run into a decrease in the efficiency and effectiveness of system performance due to energy losses in several geothermal power plant components during energy conversion. In this case, exergy analysis at PT. Pertamina Geothermal Energy Kamojang area Unit 4 direct-dry steam cycle was done on each component and state. This aims to know the energy and exergy stream and where it happened irreversibly at the component. The biggest irreversibility value occurred at the turbine and main condenser, with a value of 21,693.890 kW and 21,688.148 kW. The total irreversibility of all systems is 58,326.201 kW, while the total exergy inlet systems is 119,308.457 kW, so the value efficiency exergy obtained is 51.13%. Based on the environment as dead state analysis, an efficiency exergy value is inversely proportional to the irreversibility value and ascending environment temperature. System optimization was done with the genetic algorithm method, with variable values at the pressure wellhead and inlet turbine for the overall exergy efficiency value. The value obtained from optimization is 11.98 bar at the wellhead and 10.023 bar at the inlet turbine, and the overall efficiency exergy increased by 51.22%. © 2023 The Author(s)

We have developed the Shopping Refugees Support Robot that enables the elderly to order items through Social Networking Service (SNS) by voice conversation without relying on smartphones. This paper proposes a detection method of dementia signs using this Robot. Concretely, deterioration of cognitive function is detected by the evaluation of short-term memory utilizing order history of the Robot. We expect detection of dementia signs on a daily basis without making the elderly person conscious of having a dementia test, by information that only the person knows. We implemented a prototype and confirmed its functional validity. © 2020 IEEE.

Capital market transactions provide an opportunity for investors to acquire ownership of company shares and capital gains, as well as dividends. However, alongside the benefits, there are risks of capital loss and liquidation, leading to stress and depression due to profit targets and decision-making errors. To mitigate the risk of decision-making errors in investment, data analysis is needed, including sentiment analysis, which influences stock prices. This study aims to develop a new deep learning model to classify Indonesian public opinion on JCI stocks, especially the Energy sector, obtained from the Twitter social media platform. The model will perform sentiment analysis and categorize opinions as negative, neutral, or positive. We created a dataset that was trained using Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) to summarize the analysis of public sentiment above so that it can assist investors in studying public sentiment as a reference for investing with a yield precision of 76%, Recall of 77%, and F1-score on 76%.

The Robotics Major at the University of Michigan was successfully launched inthe 2022-23 academic year as an innovative step forward to better servestudents, our communities, and our society. Building on our guiding principleof "Robotics with Respect" and our larger Robotics Pathways model, the MichiganRobotics Major was designed to define robotics as a true academic disciplinewith both equity and excellence as our highest priorities.
