Two electromagnetic human body models independently developed from the same image dataset - the voxel-based AustinWoman and surface-based VHP-Female models - are compared. In addition to contrasting volumes and cross-section images of their tissues, the power absorbed by the two models under plane-wave excitation is also compared. Five different numerical methods are used to compute the absorbed power and to evaluate modeling and computational errors.

The goal of this work is to electrically model TSVs and 3D interposer interconnects by means of three dimensional (3D) full wave electromagnetic simulations and a circuit like approach for a very fast simulation. The full wave simulations provide a comprehensive and systematic analysis of various parameters of the structure. The circuit like approach provides an analysis opportunity to determine some practical limits of the length of interconnect structures which can be integrated as design rules during the (silicon) interposer design process. Modeling guidelines for the 3D full wave simulation are provided in order to address two of the main concerns: speed and accuracy. Parametric study is also performed in order to explore the impact of design parameters on the electrical performance.

There are many records of people and animals victims of lightning while under trees in the thunderstorms. However, there are fewer studies that model cases where lightning strikes a tree and the ground current reaches people far from the trees. This paper offers a case study based on a lightning strike to a tree that injured 31 people sheltering in a nearby masonry building, and presents a simulation model of the event that offers insight into the propagation.

In the framework of the recent European Directive 2013/35/EU, a case study is presented to assess compliance with exposure limit values (ELVs) for workers exposed to multiple frequency electromagnetic sources. A real site was investigated, where transmitting stations of both broadcasting and wireless communications services are present. Electromagnetic field measurements were performed to characterize the exposure scenario, which was numerically simulated to calculate the absorption of energy in an anthropomorphic voxel model. Finally, compliance with relevant ELVs was assessed in terms of an index of compliance, defined according to an appropriate metric for combined multi-frequency exposure.
