Capsule network is an innovative deep learning-based model that uses neuron vectors as inputs and outputs of the network. It can achieve independent output of multiple classification labels, and solve the problem of decoupling recognition of compound fault components in planetary gearboxes. However, the single-scale feature extraction cannot fully explore multi-scale feature information in compound fault signals. This study proposes a capsule network combined with multi-scale convolutional feature fusion to diagnose the compound fault of planetary gearbox. The multi-scale features are extracted from STFT images of vibration signals using convolutional layers with different kernel sizes; secondly, a capsule network is designed to classify and identify the fault components by using the dynamic routing algorithm. The experiments are conducted to assess the performance of the proposed method, and the results indicates that it can effectively decoupling identify the compound faults with strong anti-interference and stability.

Soft pneumatic actuators (SPAs) have demonstrated the ability to generate contraction, expansion, and bending strokes in three-dimensional space during pressurization. Gripper composed of SPAs are expected to serve as end effectors to improve the adaptability and lightweight of mobile robots in complex environments. In this study, a soft robotic claw inspired by the zygodactyl structure of parrot feet is developed featuring pneu-net actuators with oblique air chambers. These chambers enable bending and twisting movements, ensuring effective contact with the cylindrical landing objects. Integration of a thin steel sheet as the strain limiting layer not only improves static stability, but also augments the output force by approximately 57%, significantly ameliorating the claw’s gripping strength. Comparative gripping tests on diverse everyday items, indicate that while soft claw with vertical chambers adeptly handle centrosymmetric objects, whose with oblique chambers excel at at securing objects with large diameters, making them particularly suitable for perching applications on unmanned aerial vehicles. Moreover, enhancing the actuators with a uniformly soft surface texture, approximately 1.8 mm in height, notably increases friction force, thereby improving grip and stability. Comprehensive static stability assessments on birch logs confirmed its effective gripping and perching capabilities. The proposed soft claw has certain application prospects in situations that require flexible operation and complex grasping tasks due to its lightweight, flexibility, and strong adaptability. © 2024, The Authors. In this article, an adaptive event-triggered asymp¬totically fault-tolerant control (FTC) issue for nonlinear systems with actuator faults is investigated. An extended neural networks (NNs) technique is introduced to estimate unknown functions of the system under consideration. Compared with traditional NNs that ignore approximation errors, the proposed extended NNs further processes approximation errors, reducing the conservatism of the proposed algorithm. Then, within the framework of backstepping method, a new adaptive control strategy is developed by combining event-triggered mechanism (ETM) and bound estimation (BE) approach, which ensures the asymptotic convergence of system states while also reducing the transmission of unnecessary information, thus improving the utilization of communication resources. At the same time, the designed controller eliminates the adverse effects of actuator failures and system nonlinear terms. Finally, a simulation example of a single-link robot system is provided to demonstrate that the developed control strategy can ensure that all signals are bounded and system states are asymptotically convergent.

The heterogeneous system consisting of the wireless control system (WCS) and mobile agent system (MAS) is ubiquitous in Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) systems. Within this system, the positions of mobile agents may lead to shadow fading on the wireless channel that the WCS is controlled over and can significantly compromise the WCS’s performance. This paper focuses on the controller design for the MAS to ensure the performance of WCS in the presence of WCS and MAS coupling. Firstly, the constrained finite field network (FFN) with profile-dependent switching topology is adopted to proceed the operational control for the MAS. By virtue of the algebraic state space representation (ASSR) method, an equivalent form is obtained for the WCS and MAS coupling. A necessary and sufficient condition in terms of constrained set stabilization is then established to ensure the Lyapunov-like performance with expected decay rate. Finally, a graphical method together with the breath-first searching is provided to design state feedback controllers for the MAS. With this method, it is easy to check the constrained set stabilization of MAS and to ensure the performance requirements of WCS in the presence of WCS and MAS coupling. The study of an illustrative example shows the effectiveness of the proposed method.

RGBD images, which refer to the three-channel color images augmented with depth channel, have been greatly exploited to improve the performance of scene semantic segmentation. RGBD semantic segmentation task is of great significance to help the development of robot navigation and grasping. However, most existing methods addressing RGBD semantic segmentation lack effective feature fusion modules. To address the aforementioned problem, we propose a novel network with two novel modules for feature fusion, namely Channel-Attention based Complementary Feature Fusion Module (CAC-FFM) and Cross-Layer Feature Fusion Module (CL-FFM). Specifically, CAC-FFM, which is essentially based on the channel-attention mechanism, effectively utilizes the complementary information of RGB and depth to generate fusion features, and CL-FFM captures patch-wise features from low-level feature maps to assist the training of high-level features so as to further optimize the segmentation results. Experimental results on the publicly available NYUDv2 dataset validate the effectiveness and superiority of our proposed method.

In this work, a ZIF-67/MWCNT/Nafion sensor platform was constructed based on the good adsorption capacity of ZIF-67, the electrical conductivity of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and the excellent chemical stability of Nafion for the detection of Cu2+ in water. Meanwhile, the modified materials were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FT-IR). Cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and square wave stripping voltammetry (SWSV) were used to characterize and test ZIF-67/MWCNT/Nafion/GCE. The results show that ZIF-67/MWCNT/Nafion/GCE has high sensitivity (57.5 μA/μM) and a low limit of detection (4.3 nM) for the electrochemical detection of Cu2+ ions in an electrochemical sensing system. Finally, the modified electrode has good repeatability, reproductivity, anti-interference and stability and can be applied to test domestic water. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In this paper, the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system as the contributor of building climate management is studied on multi-zone climate dynamics modelling and control for occupancy comfort. The first-principles model together with data-driven model as the hybrid model is proposed for comprehensive multi-zone hygro-thermal dynamics. The unmodeled climate dynamics such as unknown nonlinearity and uncertainty is modeled in a linear form based on the compact form dynamic linearization (CFDL) method. Then model free adaptive control (MFAC) scheme including controller design and parameter estimation is proposed to realize multi-zone climate control and occupancy comfort. The dynamic response performance of the hybrid model-based adaptive control and the first-principles model-based adaptive control has been tested in a multi-zone building with four different zones. The results show that the proposed hybrid model-based adaptive control scheme can achieve obvious performance improvement in minimizing steady-state error.

The monitoring and fault detection for the Czochralski (Cz) crystal growth process is important to ensure the quality of the produced mono-crystalline silicon. The Cz process is a typical multi-modes industrial process, which makes the detection difficult in distinguish the change caused by the fault or mode switching. In this paper, an adaptive fault detection strategy for Cz crystal growth process is proposed. Firstly, quality-related variables are selected from numerous process variables, based on which the training dataset is constructed. Then, a fault detection model is built based on slowly-varying feature and statics indicator. A model switching strategy and updating algorithm are designed to handle the abnormal situation caused by the mode switching or fault occurrence. Three representative experiments are conducted to verify the performance of the proposed strategy, including numerical cases, a publicly available dataset, and Cz crystal growth process from our laboratory. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Underwater Vehicles are very important underwater operation equipment, and a new underwater vehicle is designed in order to realize the measurement of the ship draft. The design is based on the ROV(Remote Operated Vehicle) structure, and the mobile power supply and the upper computer are mounted on the underwater vehicle body, aiming to accomplish the task of disconnecting the underwater vehicle from the cable under complex sea conditions. In this paper, the system communication and power supply scheme design, thruster arrangement, the center of gravity and floating center position design, and 3D model design are completed in turn to obtain a structural design scheme of the underwater vehicle based on the actual engineering background. Subsequently, the strength check of the overall frame was carried out based on ANSYS WORKBENCH, which proved that the material selection and structural design met the reliability requirements. Finally, the hydrodynamic characteristics of the robot were analyzed using ANSYS CFD.

Based on the requirements of ship resistance towing test, a strain gauge type of resistance instrument has been designed, which consisting of the frame, towing component, course component, measuring component, etc. The towing component is responsible for the towing movement of the ship model, and the course component is responsible for constructing different course angles in the test requirements. An automatic brake mechanism has been equipped in measuring component, which can ensure the stability and accuracy of the tension sensor in towing test. The strength limit on the key components of the resistance instrument has been calculated by finite element analysis software, the optimization has been used in vulnerable components, and the instrument strength and reliability has been insured in the test.
