We introduce a method to evaluate the similarities between classes of objects based on the confusion matrices coming from the multi-class machine learning (ML) predictors that operate in the vector space generated by the classes. Operation in the confusion domain allows us to use the distance as evaluation metric of the closeness of the relevant properties carried by the classes. We applied the method to semiquantitatively evaluate the effects of X-ray and carbon ion radiation on cultured SW1353 chondrosarcoma cells with respect to the non-irradiated reference. We prove that it is possible to draw useful information on the strength of cells nuclei changes. © 2025, Politechnica University of Bucharest. All rights reserved.

A High Order Positivity-Preserving Discontinuous Galerkin Remapping Method Based on a Moving Mesh Solver for ALE Simulation of the Compressible Fluid Flow

The arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian(ALE)method is widely used in the field of compressible multi-material and multi-phase flow *** order to implement the indirect ALE approach for the simulation of compressible flow in the context of high order discontinuous Galerkin(DG)discretizations,we present a high order positivity-preserving DG remapping method based on a moving mesh solver in this *** remapping method is based on the ALE-DG method developed by Klingenberg et al.[17,18]to solve the trivial equation∂u/∂t=0 on a moving mesh,which is the old mesh before remapping at t=0 and is the new mesh after remapping at t=*** appropriate selection of the final pseudo-time T can always satisfy the relatively mild smoothness requirement(Lipschitz continuity)on the mesh movement velocity,which guarantees the high order accuracy of the remapping *** use a multi-resolution weighted essentially non-oscillatory(WENO)limiter which can keep the essentially non-oscillatory property near strong discontinuities while maintaining high order accuracy in smooth *** further employ an effective linear scaling limiter to preserve the positivity of the relevant physical variables without sacrificing conservation and the original high order *** experiments are provided to illustrate the high order accuracy,essentially non-oscillatory performance and positivity-preserving of our remapping *** addition,the performance of the ALE simulation based on the DG framework with our remapping algorithm is examined in one-and two-dimensional Euler equations.

Faithful geometric measures for genuine tripartite entanglement

We present a faithful geometric picture for genuine tripartite entanglement of discrete, continuous, and hybrid quantum systems. We first find that the triangle relation Ei|jkα≤Ej|ikα+Ek|ijα holds for all subadditive bipartite entanglement measure E, all permutations under parties i,j,k, all α∈[0,1], and all pure tripartite states. Then, we rigorously prove that the nonobtuse triangle area, enclosed by side Eα with 0<α≤1/2, is a measure for genuine tripartite entanglement. Finally, it is significantly strengthened for qubits that given a set of subadditive and nonsubadditive measures, some state is always found to violate the triangle relation for any α>1, and the triangle area is not a measure for any α>1/2. Our results pave the way to study discrete and continuous multipartite entanglement within a unified framework.

We put forward a new design of a compact beam transport system for intense laser-driven proton therapy,where instead of using conventional pulsed solenoids,our design relies on a helical coil irradiated by a nanosecond laser pulse to generate strong magnetic fields for focusing protons.A pair of dipole magnets and apertures are employed to further filter protons with large divergences and low *** numerical studies combine particle-in-cell simulations for laser-plasma interaction to generate high-energy monoenergetic proton beams,finite element analysis for evaluating the magnetic field distribution inside the coil,and MonteCarlo simulations for beam transport and energy *** results show that with this design,a spread-out Bragg peak in a range of several centimeters to a deep-seated tumor with a dose of approximately 16.5 cGy and fluctuation around 2% can be *** instantaneous dose rate reaches up to 10^(9)Gy/s,holding the potential for future FLASH radiotherapy research.

Toward Analytical Homogenized Relaxation Modulus for Fibrous Composite Material with Reduced Order Homogenization Method

ON THE EXPLICIT TWO-STAGE FOURTH-ORDER ACCURATE TIME DISCRETIZATIONS

This paper continues to study the explicit two-stage fourth-order accurate time discretizations[5-7].By introducing variable weights,we propose a class of more general explicit one-step two-stage time discretizations,which are different from the existing methods,*** Euler methods,Runge-Kutta methods,and multistage multiderivative methods *** study the absolute stability,the stability interval,and the intersection between the imaginary axis and the absolute stability *** results show that our two-stage time discretizations can be fourth-order accurate conditionally,the absolute stability region of the proposed methods with some special choices of the variable weights can be larger than that of the classical explicit fourth-or fifth-order Runge-Kutta method,and the interval of absolute stability can be almost twice as much as the *** numerical experiments are carried out to demonstrate the performance and accuracy as well as the stability of our proposed methods.

Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya-type spin-spin interaction from mixed-parity superconductivity

Interacting impurity spins adsorbed on surfaces have been suggested as basic components for applications in quantum computation and spintronics. Such spins usually prefer a parallel or antiparallel configuration, but weakly noncollinear alignments are possible due to the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) that arises in the presence of relativistic spin-orbit coupling. Here, we show that an effective Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya-type interaction (DMTI) can emerge purely from superconducting correlations without any spin-orbit interaction. We give an analytical proof and provide a numerical study which shows that DMTI arises in mixed-parity superconductors solely from the superconducting pairing. Moreover, we show that the same effect can be realized in Josephson junctions between s-wave and p-wave superconductors, where a phase bias toggles the DMTI entirely on and off. These results enable a way to engineer spin textures using superconducting order.
