Based on the nonincreasing property of quantum coherence via skew information under incoherent completely positive and trace-preserving maps, we propose a non-Markovianity measure for open quantum processes. As applications, by applying the proposed measure to some typical noisy channels, we find that it is equivalent to the three previous measures of non-Markovianity for phase damping and amplitude damping channels, i.e., the measures based on the quantum trace distance, dynamical divisibility, and quantum mutual information. For the random unitary channel, it is equivalent to the non-Markovianity measure based on l1 norm of coherence for a class of output states and it is incompletely equivalent to the measure based on dynamical divisibility. We also use the modified Tsallis relative α entropy of coherence to detect the non-Markovianity of dynamics of quantum open systems, the results show that the modified Tsallis relative α entropy of coherence are more comfortable than the original Tsallis relative α entropy of coherence for small α. Influence of clutter on 5G waveform modulated RADAR signals

The primary objective of radar is to identify a target in various scenarios. Radar signal generation with various coding and modulation schemes are introduced from earlier times to recent times for this purpose. There are not much efficient waveforms available for a radar system to identify a target, hence a new waveform modulation is always needed. In the work discussed here, a stepped frequency waveform (SFW) is modulated with two waveforms such as cyclic prefix - orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (CP-OFDM) and discrete fourier transform-spread-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DFT-S-OFDM) in order to improve the complexity of the waveform and to obtain pulse compression. This CP-OFDM and DFT-S-OFDM are the new waveform candidates that are expected to use in 5G communication systems. The modulated waveforms are analyzed with a clutter model in order to test whether this waveform design can be used in a radar system for the purpose of target identification in the midst of clutter. The modulated waveforms are analyzed using ambiguity functions.

Modern interconnected electric grids face a challenge from the oscillatory behavior and associated stability of the system. The system will never have a steady-state as small and continuous fluctuations in load occurs. Moreover, in the interconnected grid structure, a disturbance in one location can spread and affect the rest of the parts. The knowledge about the nature of dynamical behavior will really help in monitoring and identifying the systems temporal evolution. To employ good control strategies for better stability, information regarding poorly damped modes must be known. Recent literature has shown the effectiveness of dynamic mode decomposition (DMD) based approach as a faster method for wide-area monitoring (WAM) in power systems. The modeling using DMD presumes that the dynamics are linear. However in many cases, the behavior will be nonlinear. The concept of nonlinear observable allows one to extend the DMD based approach to capture the dynamics. The present paper is an attempt to explore and evaluate the usefulness of explicit mapping methods to the nonlinear behavior of the power system when subjected to fast-rate disturbances. From the simulated experiments, it is found that the DMD with nonlinear observables using explicit mapping approach is able to capture the dynamics in real-time.

Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) serves as an important biomarker for the diagnosis of various diseases including liver malfunction, bone diseases, breast and prostate cancers, and diabetes. This paper discusses the fabrication and testing of a paper-based Point-of-care testing (POCT) device for the colorimetric detection of alkaline phosphatase (ALP). The device was fabricated using a commercial wax printer followed by reagent casting on the patterned paper. In the presence of ALP concentration of 30 - 500 U/L, the reagent paranitrophenylphosphate (PNPP) changes to yellow color with increasing intensity. The different color intensities observed for different ALP concentrations were captured and a color band was developed for the visual interpretation. The RGB and HSV of the captured color intensities were processed using MATLAB to obtain the corresponding ALP concentration. © 2018 IEEE.

A novel front-end speech parameterization technique that is robust towards ambient noise and pitch variations is proposed in this paper. In the proposed technique, the short-time magnitude spectrum obtained by discrete Fourier transform is first decomposed in several components using variational mode decomposition (VMD). For sufficiently smoothing the spectrum, the higher-order components are discarded. The smoothed spectrum is then obtained by reconstructing the spectrum using the first-two modes only. The Mel-frequency cepstral coefficients computed using the VMD-based smoothed spectra are observed to be affected less by ambient noise and pitch variations. To validate the same, an automatic speech recognition system is developed on clean speech from adult speakers and evaluated under noisy test conditions. Furthermore, experimental evaluations are also performed on another test set which consists of speech data from children to simulate large pitch differences. The experimental evaluations as well as signal domain analyses presented in this paper support these claims.

In this contemporary research era, the science of retrieving required information from the stored database is extending its applications in the legal and life science domains. With the exponential growth of the digital data available in the legal domain as an electronic media, there is a great demand for efficient and effective ways to retrieve required information from the stored document collection. This paper details our experimented approach in Information Retrieval from Legal Documents (IRLeD 2017) task. The task includes two subtasks, where the subtask 1 deals with information extraction and the subtask 2 deals with document retrieval. Text representation being a core component in any of the text analytics solution, we have experimented on the provided dataset to observe the performance of distributed representation of text in the Information Retrieval task. The distributed representation of text attained 3rd position in subtask 1 and attained satisfactory score in subtask 2.

This paper illustrates work done on "Gender Identification in Russian texts (RusProfiling)" shared task, hosted by PAN in conjunction with FIRE 2017. The task is to predict the author's gender, based on the Twitter data corpus which is in Russian. We will give a brief introduction to the task at hand, elaborate on the data-set provided by the competition organizers, discuss various feature selection methods, provided experimental analysis that we followed for feature representation and show comparative outcomes of different classifiers that we used for validation. We submitted a total of 3 models and their respective prediction for each test data-set with slightly different pre-processing technique based upon the test corpus content. As each of the test corpus were sourced from various platforms, this made it challenging to stick to one representation alone. As per the global ranking published for the shared task [1] our team secured 2nd position overall (Concatenating all Data-set) and our 3rd submission model performed the best among the 3 submission models from the overall test data corpus. Further under extended work we discuss in brief how hyper parameter tuning of certain attributes extend our validation accuracy by 6% from baseline.

This working note describes the system we used while participating in RusProfiling PAN 2017 shared task. The objective of the task is to identify the gender trait of the author from the author's text written in the Russian Language. Taking this as a binary text classification problem, we have experimented to develop a representation scheme for target classes (called class vectors) from the texts belonging to the corresponding target classes. These class vectors are computed from the traditional representation methods available in Vector Space Models and Vector Space Models of Semantics. Followed by the representation, Support Vector Machine with a linear kernel is used to perform the final classification. For this task, genre independent corpus is provided by the RusProfiling PAN 2017 shared task organizers. This proposed model attains almost equal performance across all the genre available in the test corpus.

Stress is a healthy natural response to a perceived or actual threat. However, when stress is persistent, it may decrease work productivity, increase the risk of diseases, and affect the quality of life. Stress is reflected in physiological variables, such as heart rate, blood pressure, and pulse wave velocity among others. A photoplethys-mogram (PPG) contains information related to pulse rate and blood pressure. This study analyses parameters derived from PPG signal morphology for mental stress assessment.A low-complexity algorithm is designed using bandpass filtered higher-order derivatives of the PPG signal for estimation of six morphological parameters: the forward pulse wave amplitude A 1 , the systole and diastole durations T 1 and T d , the time delays of reflected waves T 12 and T 13 from the renal and iliac sites in the central arteries, and the pulse duration T p . The parameters were investigated on a set of 18 healthy subjects by using a modified Trier Social Stress *** results show that the most sensitive PPG morphology parameters to mental stress are the amplitude of forward wave A 1 , the duration of diastole T d , the time delay of the reflected wave T 13 , and the pulse-to-pulse interval T p .

Most of the humps in India are not being constructed and maintained according to the public safety guidelines of Indian Road Congress (IRC) i.e., IRC099, which is resulting in damage to the vehicles, severe discomfort to the driver and even causing loss of direction control which is leading to fatalities. Very few methods were discussed in literature for un-marked speed hump/bump detection. We propose a method that detects and informs the driver about the upcoming un-marked and marked speed hump/bump in real time using deep learning techniques and gives the distance the vehicle is away from it using stereo-vision approaches. We have achieved using NVIDIA GPU and Stereolabs ZED Stereo camera hardware. With this driver or autonomous mode of the vehicle can control the vehicle speeds to be at safer limits in order to not cause any kind of discomfort to the passengers as well as damage to the vehicle.
