Named Entity Recognition is an important application area of Natural Language Processing. It is the process of identifying the designators which are present in a sentence called as named entities. Named Entity Recognition can be performed using rule based approaches, machine learning based approaches and hybrid approaches. This paper proposes a method for Named Entity Recognition of Malayalam language using one of the supervised machine learning approach called Conditional Random field approach.

The reversal of the current directions in audio circuit elements causes polarity inversion of the acquired audio signal with respect to the reference input signal. The objective of the work presented in this paper is to implement a simple polarity detection circuit in audio preamplifiers which provides an indication of the signal polarity inversion. The present work also demonstrates the possibilities of polarity inversion in audio circuits of audio data acquisition devices. Inputs fed in the inverting/noninverting terminals of audio operational amplifiers (Op-Amps) cause polarity reversal of the amplitude values of the speech/audio signals. Even though, polarity inversion in audio circuits are perceptually indistinguishable, provides inaccurate values of speech parameters estimated by processing the speech. The work presented in this paper discusses, how polarity inversion is introduced at the circuit level and proposes a polarity detection circuit which provides an indication of polarity reversal after the pre amplification. The effectiveness of the proposed polarity inversion circuit is confirmed by 100% polarity detection rate for the 100 randomly selected audio files of the CMU-Arctic database when simulated using Proteus 8.0. The paper is concluded by discussing the significance of VLSI implementation proposed polarity detection circuit in the most commonly used audio preamplifier systems.

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is a particular case of multicarrier transmission in which, higher data rates are achieved using carriers that are densely packed. In this paper, implementation of OFDM communication system with channel estimation and synchronization is carried out and the bit error rate (BER) of OFDM system with and without channel estimation is observed and correspondingly a plot is traced. The choice has been made because of the advantages that OFDM and SDR has shown in terms of channel capacity and cost. Implementation of the prototype has been in GNU Radio; an open source software.

Digital forensics has become a flourishing research area. Electrical Network Frequency (ENF) plays an important role in assessing the authenticity of a digital recording such as audio. ENF criterion is a tool for extracting the embedded power line frequency from the recording. A cross correlation between a reference PMU data and extracted ENF signal can be done in order to determine the authenticity of an audio signal. In this paper, Empirical Wavelet Transform (EWT) is used for extracting the ENF from an audio signal. EWT decomposes signal into N modes. Hilbert Transform is used to compute the instantaneous frequency and amplitude of the extracted mode corresponding to ENF. EWT method is not able to capture the weak harmonics in a signal. This problem is resolved by fixing the frequency domain boundaries of each mode.

in almost all cities in the world, people breathe dirty air. Air pollution concentration has been rapidly increasing in the major urban areas mainly due to the increasing use of vehicles. Urbanization is changing the people's life style, along with it they have serious issues related to health and environment damage. Hysplit4 is simulation software which is used to simulate the trajectory and concentration of the pollutants. GDAS is the common data used for simulating both plot. Path of the pollutants is traced with respect to the given meteorological data (wind speed, direction, temperature), since the pollutants move according to local wind pattern and speed. Meanwhile, concentration plot is simulated to assess the amount of pollutants in specified geographical area. Both the plots have been for the particular study area according to the presence of the pollutants. Generation of these plots will help the environmentalist to pre plan the industrial site, safe chimney height, for planning road ways etc.

The postextrasystolic T wave change (PEST) is an electrocardiographic phenomenon in which the morphology of the normal T wave is altered for a short time after a ventricular ectopic beat (VEB). It has been observed in patients with other cardiac pathologies but it has not been proposed as a risk index for cardiac death. Since PEST seems to be potentiated in patients with depression of myocardial contractility, we hypothesize that PEST could be used to predict pump failure death (PFD) in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF). For the purpose of quantifying PEST, the parameters morphological change onset (MCO) and morphological change slope (MCS) were introduced. MCO describes an initial morphological change of the T wave after a VEB, while MCS is responsible for the description of the restitution to its original shape. 537 records from the MUSIC study were separated according to their cause of death and comparisons against the others (including survivors) were carried out. In addition, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to determine the optimal separating thresholds for MCO and MCS that maximized the sum of sensitivity and specificity for PFD risk prediction. The results showed that no significant differences could be established and the proposed parameters do not seem to be related to any kind of cardiac death. In future, other forms of PEST quantification together with more databases can be used to definitely conclude that PEST has no predictive power.

Smart grid is a complete automation system, where large pool of sensors is embedded in the existing power grids system for controlling and monitoring it by utilizing modern information technologies. The data collected from these sensors are huge and have all the characteristics to be called as Big Data. The Smart-grid can be made more intelligent by processing and deriving new information from these data in real time. This paper presents Apache spark as a unified cluster computing platform which is suitable for storing and performing Big Data analytics on smart grid data for applications like automatic demand response and real time pricing.

Multirate digital signal processing finds application in various fields like speech processing, image processing and compression. A proper study of this subject is fundamental to incorporating an efficient design of these systems. A good theoretical explanation in this area is readily available at large numbers. But it is quite unfortunate that the present education system does not emphasize a proper visualization of the theoretical concepts. The significance of GNU Radio, which provides various signal processing blocks, is worth noticing since it can be used by a learner to design a flow graph and analyze its response. In this paper, we have implemented the perfect reconstruction filter using the concept of Quadrature mirror filter (QMF) bank in GNU Radio. Some basic concepts like aliasing and filter design have also been analyzed using GNU Radio. We appreciate the role played by GNU Radio since it is an easy-to-use software and also provides an excellant platform in analyzing a system.

This paper explores the full-fledged supervised Machine Learning based approach for the automatic extraction of lexical chunks, commonly called as Multi-Word Expression (MWE). The concept of MWE concerns a variety of constructions in everyday language in the form of idioms, phrasal verbs and noun compounds. The pervasiveness of MWE in the NLP tasks that deals with real text, such as Machine Translation and Information retrieval should be provided with enough MWE treatment;if not, the system will fail to generate high-quality natural output. Here, we are extracting phrasal verbs from the English movie subtitle corpus based on their corresponding linguistic pattern and standard association scores. The extracted phrasal verbs have been used to train various machine learning algorithms for discriminating MWE. Two methods of linguistic pattern extraction are implemented, out of which one is proven to be effective. Here, we have demonstrated two major findings, 1) MWE extraction based on dependency information along with POS tag provides better accuracy than it had been extracted from the POS tag pattern alone. 2) The result obtained from extraction is used to train three different machine learning classifiers, out of which Random forest classifier is verified to be the suitable classifier for the application handled. In various experiments it had been positively demonstrated that the ability to perform helical modulation, by exploiting the Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM) states of the electromagnetic (EM) waves, is a feasible scheme of digital modulation in the bandwidth-constrained regions of the spectrum. In this paper we shall show that by changing the EM properties to an antenna array, at the focal plane of a parabolic antenna (instead of changing the geometry of the entire aperture), a factor of vorticity can be introduced in the radio waves. The problem becomes relevant in cases where the antenna has larger radial dimensions. At the focal plane of the antenna phase changes are incorporated in the successive elements of the array. Circular arrays made up of discrete elements arranged in different configurations are being used in this exercise. Results from the different arrangements are compared in terms of antenna parameters, and the radiation patterns are obtained for various optimal representations of the OAM states. © 2014 IEEE.
