Non-volatile memories(NVMs)provide lower latency and higher bandwidth than block ***,NVMs are byte-addressable and provide persistence that can be used as memory-level storage devices(non-volatile main memory,NVMM).These features change storage hierarchy and allow CPU to access persistent data using load/store ***,we can directly build a file system on ***,traditional file systems are designed based on slow block *** use a deep and complex software stack to optimize file system *** design results in software overhead being the dominant factor affecting NVMM file ***,scalability,crash consistency,data protection,and cross-media storage should be reconsidered in NVMM file *** survey existing work on optimizing NVMM file ***,we analyze the problems when directly using traditional file systems on NVMM,including heavy software overhead,limited scalability,inappropriate consistency guarantee techniques,***,we summarize the technique of 30 typical NVMM file systems and analyze their advantages and ***,we provide a few suggestions for designing a high-performance NVMM file system based on real hardware Optane DC persistent memory ***,we suggest applying various techniques to reduce software overheads,improving the scalability of virtual file system(VFS),adopting highly-concurrent data structures(e.g.,lock and index),using memory protection keys(MPK)for data protection,and carefully designing data placement/migration for cross-media file system.

Intelligent indoor robotics is expected to rapidly gain importance in crucial areas of our modern society such as at-home health care and factories. Yet, existing mobile robots are limited in their ability to perceive and respond to dynamically evolving complex indoor environments because of their inherently limited sensing and computing resources that are, moreover, traded off against their cruise time and payload. To address these formidable challenges, here we propose intelligent indoor metasurface robotics(I2MR),where all sensing and computing are relegated to a centralized robotic brain endowed with microwave perception; and I2MR's limbs(motorized vehicles, airborne drones, etc.) merely execute the wirelessly received instructions from the brain. The key aspect of our concept is the centralized use of a computation-enabled programmable metasurface that can flexibly mold microwave propagation in the indoor wireless environment, including a sensing and localization modality based on configurational diversity and a communication modality to establish a preferential high-capacity wireless link between the I2MR's brain and limbs. The metasurface-enhanced microwave perception is capable of realizing low-latency and high-resolution three-dimensional imaging of humans, even around corners and behind thick concrete walls, which is the basis for action decisions of the I2MR's brain. I2MR is thus endowed with real-time and full-context awareness of its operating indoor environment. We implement, experimentally, a proof-of-principle demonstration at ～2.4 GHz, in which I2MR provides health-care assistance to a human inhabitant. The presented strategy opens a new avenue for the conception of smart and wirelessly networked indoor robotics.

Most pathway analysis methods based on simple nucleotide variations overlook mutations occurring in genes outside the pathway, fail to address mutation heterogeneity with targeted measures, and do not consider the functional relationships among gene components within biomolecular networks when modeling the contributions of biomarkers to pathways. So, we proposed a novel framework, named IntNet, for pathway analysis based on simple nucleotide variations. The core components of IntNet are sample reconstruction (SC) and a new biologically informed neural network model (BINN). To address the difficulty of extracting effective features caused by the mutation heterogeneity, IntNet reconstructs mutation samples based on the hypothesis that mutations in patients with the same phenotype may cluster in similar network regions. BINN uses the human gene network and expanded biological pathways to construct its neural network architecture. BINN implements mutation signaling propagation along the human gene network and integration within the pathways. IntNet's performance was validated using multiple cancer datasets. Experimental results demonstrated that IntNet could identify more accurate and reliable pathways. © 2024 IEEE.

The paper deals with complementary changes in scientific research and real economy (exemplified by the farming industry) taking place when using the holistic approach to the industry's digital transformation resulting in the appearance of precise agrarian technologies that require a comprehensive, system-based combination of research and production resources that are able to ensure increased productivity in the industry. We demonstrate that among these new technologies, the artificial intelligence methods have a special significance. They have to, however, go through integration transformations to become standards for the proposed common digital farming management platform. © 2024 IEEE.

In high-risk industrial environments like nuclear power plants, precise defect identification and localization are essential for maintaining production stability and safety. However, the complexity of such a harsh environment leads to significant variations in the shape and size of the defects. To address this challenge, we propose the multivariate time series segmentation network(MSSN), which adopts a multiscale convolutional network with multi-stage and depth-separable convolutions for efficient feature extraction through variable-length templates. To tackle the classification difficulty caused by structural signal variance, MSSN employs logarithmic normalization to adjust instance distributions. Furthermore, it integrates classification with smoothing loss functions to accurately identify defect segments amid similar structural and defect signal subsequences. Our algorithm evaluated on both the Mackey-Glass dataset and industrial dataset achieves over 95% localization and demonstrates the capture capability on the synthetic dataset. In a nuclear plant's heat transfer tube dataset, it captures 90% of defect instances with75% middle localization F1 score.

BERD+: A Generic Sequential Recommendation Framework by Eliminating Unreliable Data with Item- and Attribute-level Signals

A preliminary work of our study was published at IJCAI’21 [47], which is substantially extended in the following aspects: (1) In Section 1, we analyze the necessity of introducing item attributes for detecting unreliable instances, together with the problems and challenges that attributes may bring in. (2) In Section 2, we add discussions about the limitations of existing attribute-aware recommender systems (Section 2.2) and denoising methods (Section 2.3) in the context of detecting unreliable instances. (3) In Section 4.2, we further conduct an in-depth analysis at the attribute level to demonstrate the capability of attributes for rectifying instance loss and uncertainty, as well as the disturbance caused by attributes. (4) We generalize BERD to a generic framework BERD+ in Section 5.1, equipped with novel modules, i.e., HU-GCN (Section 5.2) and EPE (Section 5.4), which properly incorporate item attributes while reducing their disturbance for rectifying instance uncer tainty (Section 5.5) and loss (Section 5.6). The generic BERD+ can be flexibly plugged into existing SRSs for performance enhanced recommendation via eliminating unreliable data. (5) In Section 6.2, we apply our BERD+ framework to seven state-of-the-art SRSs on five real-world datasets to illustrate its superiority. (6) To avoid unfair comparison caused by item attributes, we build and compare with the baseline that combines the original BERD and an advanced attribute-aware recommender system, KSR [19]. (7) For more comprehensive comparison, in Section 6.2.2, we compare BRED+ with two state-of-the-art denoising approaches;in Section 6.2.3, to examine the efficacy of HU-GCN and EPE, we compare HU-GCN with various attribute embedding techniques, i.e., variants of graph neural networks, and compare EPE with different attribute fusing methods, i.e., adding, concatenation, and weighted sum. Chemical environment adaptive learning for optical band gap prediction of doped graphitic carbon nitride nanosheets

This study presents a new machine learning algorithm, named Chemical Environment Graph Neural Network (ChemGNN), designed to accelerate materials property prediction and advance new materials discovery. Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) and its doped variants have gained significant interest for their potential as optical materials. Accurate prediction of their band gaps is crucial for practical applications;however, traditional quantum simulation methods are computationally expensive and challenging to explore the vast space of possible doped molecular structures. The proposed ChemGNN leverages the learning ability of current graph neural networks (GNNs) to satisfactorily capture the characteristics of atoms' chemical environment underlying complex molecular structures. Our experimental results demonstrate more than 100% improvement in band gap prediction accuracy over existing GNNs on g-C3N4. Furthermore, the general ChemGNN model can precisely foresee band gaps of various doped g-C3N4 structures, making it a valuable tool for performing high-throughput prediction in materials design and development. © The Author(s) 2024.

Learning discriminative foreground-and-background features for few-shot segmentation

Few-shot Semantic Segmentation (FSS) endeavors to segment novel categories in a query image by referring to a support set comprising only a few annotated examples. Presently, many existing FSS methodologies primarily embrace the prototype learning paradigm and concentrate on optimizing the matching mechanism. However, these approaches tend to overlook the discrimination between the features of foreground background. Consequently, the segmentation results are often imprecise when it comes to capturing intricate structures, such as boundaries and small objects. In this study, we introduce the Discriminative Foreground-and-Background feature learning Network (DFBNet) to enhance the distinguishability of bilateral features. DFBNet comprises three major modules: a multi-level self-matching module (MSM), a feature separation module (FSM), and a semantic alignment module (SAM). The MSM generates prior masks separately for the foreground and background, employing a self-matching strategy across different feature levels. These prior masks are subsequently used as scaling factors within the FSM, where the features of the query’s foreground and background are independently scaled up and then concatenated along the channel dimension. Furthermore, we incorporate a two-layer Transformer encoder-based semantic alignment module (SAM) in DFBNet to refine the features, thereby creating a greater distinction between the foreground and background features. The performance of DFBNet is evaluated on the PASCAL-5i and COCO-20i benchmarks, demonstrating its superiority over existing solutions and establishing new state-of-the-art results in the field of few-shot semantic segmentation.
