Multi-modality image fusion (MMIF) entails synthesizing images with detailed textures and prominent objects. Existing methods tend to use general feature extraction to handle different fusion tasks. However, these methods have difficulty breaking fusion barriers across various modalities owing to the lack of targeted learning routes. In this work, we propose a multi-scenario feature joint learning architecture, MLFuse, that employs the commonalities of multi-modality images to deconstruct the fusion progress. Specifically, we construct a cross-modal knowledge reinforcing network that adopts a multipath calibration strategy to promote information communication between different images. In addition, two professional networks are developed to maintain the salient and textural information of fusion results. The spatial-spectral domain optimizing network can learn the vital relationship of the source image context with the help of spatial attention and spectral attention. The edge-guided learning network utilizes the convolution operations of various receptive fields to capture image texture information. The desired fusion results are obtained by aggregating the outputs from the three networks. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superiority of MLFuse for infrared-visible image fusion and medical image fusion. The excellent results of downstream tasks (i.e., object detection and semantic segmentation) further verify the high-quality fusion performance of our method. G2Face: High-Fidelity Reversible Face Anonymization via Generative and Geometric Priors

Reversible face anonymization, unlike traditional face pixelization, seeks to replace sensitive identity information in facial images with synthesized alternatives, preserving privacy without sacrificing image clarity. Traditional methods, such as encoder-decoder networks, often result in significant loss of facial details due to their limited learning capacity. Additionally, relying on latent manipulation in pre-trained GANs can lead to changes in ID-irrelevant attributes, adversely affecting data utility due to GAN inversion inaccuracies. This paper introduces G2Face, which leverages both generative and geometric priors to enhance identity manipulation, achieving high-quality reversible face anonymization without compromising data utility. We utilize a 3D face model to extract geometric information from the input face, integrating it with a pre-trained GAN-based decoder. This synergy of generative and geometric priors allows the decoder to produce realistic anonymized faces with consistent geometry. Moreover, multi-scale facial features are extracted from the original face and combined with the decoder using our novel identity-aware feature fusion blocks (IFF). This integration enables precise blending of the generated facial patterns with the original ID-irrelevant features, resulting in accurate identity manipulation. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method outperforms existing state-of-the-art techniques in face anonymization and recovery, while preserving high data utility. A vehicular network underpinned by the 3-tier vehicle-edge-cloud infrastructure enables an efficient and safer travel experience. The compute-intensive vehicular applications are often offloaded to the edge and/or cloud servers to enhance the applications' Quality of Services (QoS). The underlying edge-cloud servers consume a high among of energy. Consequently, it becomes crucial to optimizing energy consumption in the offloading process. Current energy-efficient offloading strategies in 2-tier vehicle-edge infrastructure, do not account for cloud computing energy consumption. In this paper, we address this void by proposing a machine learning-based energy-aware offloading algorithm, which optimizes the energy of the edge-cloud computing platform. The offloading strategy is enabled by the Support Vector Machine (SVM) regression model machine learning algorithm used for the edge-cloud power prediction. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is a promising approach in energy savings. © 2021 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved.

Voice conversion (VC) systems can transform audio to mimic another speaker’s voice, thereby attacking speaker verification (SV) systems. However, ongoing studies on source speaker verification (SSV) are hindered by limited data availability and methodological constraints. This paper presents the Source Speaker Tracking Challenge (SSTC) on STL 2024, which aims to fill the gap in the database and benchmark for the SSV task. In this study, we generate a large-scale converted speech database with 16 common VC methods and train a batch of baseline systems based on the MFA-Conformer architecture. In addition, we introduced a related task called conversion method recognition, with the aim of assisting the SSV task. We expect SSTC to be a platform for advancing the development of the SSV task and provide further insights into the performance and limitations of current SV systems against VC attacks. Two-stream Hierarchical Similarity Reasoning for Image-text Matching

Reasoning-based approaches have demonstrated their powerful ability for the task of image-text matching. In this work, two issues are addressed for image-text matching. First, for reasoning processing, conventional approaches have no ability to find and use multi-level hierarchical similarity information. To solve this problem, a hierarchical similarity reasoning module is proposed to automatically extract context information, which is then co-exploited with local interaction information for efficient reasoning. Second, previous approaches only consider learning single-stream similarity alignment (i.e., image-to-text level or text-to-image level), which is inadequate to fully use similarity information for image-text matching. To address this issue, a two-stream architecture is developed to decompose image-text matching into image-to-text level and text-to-image level similarity computation. These two issues are investigated by a unifying framework that is trained in an end-to-end manner, namely two-stream hierarchical similarity reasoning network. The extensive experiments performed on the two benchmark datasets of MSCOCO and Flickr30K show the superiority of the proposed approach as compared to existing state-of-the-art methods. Handwritten document images can be highly affected by degradation for different reasons: Paper ageing, daily-life scenarios (wrinkles, dust, etc.), bad scanning process and so on. These artifacts raise many readability issues for current Handwritten Text Recognition (HTR) algorithms and severely devalue their efficiency. In this paper, we propose an end to end architecture based on Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) to recover the degraded documents into a clean and readable form. Unlike the most well-known document binarization methods, which try to improve the visual quality of the degraded document, the proposed architecture integrates a handwritten text recognizer that promotes the generated document image to be more readable. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work to use the text information while binarizing handwritten documents. Extensive experiments conducted on degraded Arabic and Latin handwritten documents demonstrate the usefulness of integrating the recognizer within the GAN architecture, which improves both the visual quality and the readability of the degraded document images. Moreover, we outperform the state of the art in H-DIBCO challenges, after fine tuning our pre-trained model with synthetically degraded Latin handwritten images, on this task. © 2021, CC BY.

Federated learning (FL) has been widely used for privacy-preserving model updates in Industry 5.0, facilitated by 6G networks. Despite FL's privacy-preserving advantages, it remains vulnerable to attacks where adversaries can infer private data from local models or manipulate the central server (CS) to deliver falsified global models. Current privacy-preserving approaches, primarily based on the FedAvg algorithm, fail to optimize training efficiency for non-independent and identically distributed (non-IID) data. This article proposes training-efficient and verifiable aggregation (TEVA) for FL to resolve these issues. This scheme combines threshold Paillier homomorphic encryption (TPHE), verifiable aggregation, and an optimized double momentum update mechanism (OdMum). TEVA not only leverages TPHE to protect the privacy of local models but also ensures the integrity of the global model through a verifiable aggregation mechanism. Additionally, TEVA integrates the OdMum algorithm to effectively address the challenges posed by non-IID data, promoting rapid model convergence and significantly enhancing overall training efficiency. Security analysis indicates that TEVA meets the requirements for privacy protection. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that TEVA can accelerate model convergence while incurring lower computational and communication overheads. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

Data-free knowledge distillation (DFKD) enables knowledge transfer from a pre-trained teacher to a student network without accessing the real dataset. However, generator-based DFKD methods struggle to ensure that the synthetic images accurately reflect the real dataset distribution. The update of the generator network relies heavily on teacher category guidance, but varying teacher prediction accuracy across categories leads to inconsistent synthetic image quality. Such variations introduce a distribution shift between synthetic and real datasets, negatively impacting student network performance during knowledge distillation. To address this challenge, we propose the SRIF, comprising two components: Student-Driven Flexible Filtering (SDFF) and Re-weighting for Independent Regularization (RIR). SDFF filters out synthetic images affected by the category distribution shift during data generation, producing a more reliable dataset. RIR, applied during distillation, encourages the student to learn stable causal relationships through sample reweighting. Both components flexibly integrate into existing DFKD frameworks, improving performance while reducing training costs. © 1999-2012 IEEE.

The fifth generation(5G) wireless communication networks are being deployed worldwide from 2020 and more capabilities are in the process of being standardized, such as mass connectivity, ultra-reliability,and guaranteed low latency. However, 5G will not meet all requirements of the future in 2030 and beyond, and sixth generation(6G) wireless communication networks are expected to provide global coverage, enhanced spectral/energy/cost efficiency, better intelligence level and security, etc. To meet these requirements, 6G networks will rely on new enabling technologies, i.e., air interface and transmission technologies and novel network architecture, such as waveform design, multiple access, channel coding schemes, multi-antenna technologies, network slicing, cell-free architecture, and cloud/fog/edge computing. Our vision on 6G is that it will have four new paradigm shifts. First, to satisfy the requirement of global coverage, 6G will not be limited to terrestrial communication networks, which will need to be complemented with non-terrestrial networks such as satellite and unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV) communication networks, thus achieving a space-airground-sea integrated communication network. Second, all spectra will be fully explored to further increase data rates and connection density, including the sub-6GHz, millimeter wave(mmWave), terahertz(THz),and optical frequency bands. Third, facing the big datasets generated by the use of extremely heterogeneous networks, diverse communication scenarios, large numbers of antennas, wide bandwidths, and new service requirements, 6G networks will enable a new range of smart applications with the aid of artificial intelligence(AI) and big data technologies. Fourth, network security will have to be strengthened when developing 6G networks. This article provides a comprehensive survey of recent advances and future trends in these four aspects.
