In this work, we report the set-up and results of the Liver Tumor Segmentation Benchmark (LiTS), which was organized in conjunction with the IEEE International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging (ISBI) 2017 and the International Conferences on Medical Image computing and computer-Assisted Intervention (MICCAI) 2017 and 2018. The image dataset is diverse and contains primary and secondary tumors with varied sizes and appearances with various lesion-to-background levels (hyper-/hypo-dense), created in collaboration with seven hospitals and research institutions. Seventy-five submitted liver and liver tumor segmentation algorithms were trained on a set of 131 computed tomography (CT) volumes and were tested on 70 unseen test images acquired from different patients. We found that not a single algorithm performed best for both liver and liver tumors in the three events. The best liver segmentation algorithm achieved a Dice score of 0.963, whereas, for tumor segmentation, the best algorithms achieved Dices scores of 0.674 (ISBI 2017), 0.702 (MICCAI 2017), and 0.739 (MICCAI 2018). Retrospectively, we performed additional analysis on liver tumor detection and revealed that not all top-performing segmentation algorithms worked well for tumor detection. The best liver tumor detection method achieved a lesion-wise recall of 0.458 (ISBI 2017), 0.515 (MICCAI 2017), and 0.554 (MICCAI 2018), indicating the need for further research. Background: Decades of steady improvements in life expectancy in Europe slowed down from around 2011, well before the COVID-19 pandemic, for reasons which remain disputed. We aimed to assess how changes in risk factors and cause-specific death rates in different European countries related to changes in life expectancy in those countries before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: We used data and methods from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2021 to compare changes in life expectancy at birth, causes of death, and population exposure to risk factors in 16 European Economic Area countries (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden) and the four UK nations (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales) for three time periods: 1990–2011, 2011–19, and 2019–21. Changes in life expectancy and causes of death were estimated with an established life expectancy cause-specific decomposition method, and compared with summary exposure values of risk factors for the major causes of death influencing life expectancy. Findings: All countries showed mean annual improvements in life expectancy in both 1990–2011 (overall mean 0·23 years [95% uncertainty interval [UI] 0·23 to 0·24]) and 2011–19 (overall mean 0·15 years [0·13 to 0·16]). The rate of improvement was lower in 2011–19 than in 1990–2011 in all countries except for Norway, where the mean annual increase in life expectancy rose from 0·21 years (95% UI 0·20 to 0·22) in 1990–2011 to 0·23 years (0·21 to 0·26) in 2011–19 (difference of 0·03 years). In other countries, the difference in mean annual improvement between these periods ranged from –0·01 years in Iceland (0·19 years [95% UI 0·16 to 0·21] vs 0·18 years [0·09 to 0·26]), to –0·18 years in England (0·25 years [0·24 to 0·25] vs 0·07 years [0·06 to 0·08]). Network slicing for service-oriented networks under resource constraints

To support multiple on-demand services over fixed communication networks, network operators must allow flexible customization and fast provision of their network resources. One effective approach to this end is network virtualization, whereby each service is mapped to a virtual subnetwork providing dedicated on-demand support to network users. In practice, each service consists of a prespecified sequence of functions, called a service function chain (SFC), while each service function in a SFC can only be provided by some given network nodes. Thus, to support a given service, we must select network function nodes according to the SFC and determine the routing strategy through the function nodes in a specified order. A crucial network slicing problem that needs to be addressed is how to optimally localize the service functions in a physical network as specified by the SFCs, subject to link and node capacity constraints. In this paper, we formulate the network slicing problem as a mixed binary linear program and establish its strong NP-hardness. Furthermore, we propose efficient penalty successive upper bound minimization (PSUM) and PSUM-R(ounding) algorithms, and two heuristic algorithms to solve the problem. We present an updated version of the AFMPB package for fast calculation of molecular solvation-free energy. The main feature of the new version is the successful adoption of the DASHMM library, which enables AFMPB to operate on distributed memory computers. As a result, the new version can easily handle larger molecules or situations with higher accuracy requirements. To demonstrate the updated code, we applied the new version to a dengue virus system with more than one million atoms and a mesh with approximately 20 million triangles, and were able to reduce the time-to-solution from 10 hours reported in the previous release on a shared memory computer to less than 30 seconds on a Cray XC30 cluster using 12, 288 cores. Background Genetic frontotemporal dementia is highly heterogeneous, with different progression patterns seen between individuals. Using in vivo MR images from the Genetic FTD Initiative (GENFI), we aimed to identify clinical progression in genetic mutation carriers from their brain volumes at baseline. Method Cortical and subcortical volumes of interest (VOIs) were generated using automated parcellation methods on volumetric 3T T1-weighted MRI scans for 480 carriers (198 GRN , 202 C9orf72 , 80 MAPT ). W-scores for 79 VOIs were computed from a linear regression model carried out on 298 non-carrier cognitively normal controls adjusting for the effect of age, sex, total intracranial volume and scanner type. Carriers were divided into three disease stages based on their global CDR® plus NACC FTLD score (CDR-GS): asymptomatic (0), possibly or mildly symptomatic (0.5) and fully symptomatic (1 or more). Cut-off points for each VOI were derived from Youden indices estimated with ROC curves to distinguish between CDR-GS=0 and CDR-GS≥1 within each gene. CDR-GS=0.5 carriers (30 GRN , 32 C9orf72 , 13 MAPT ) were classified as ‘normal’ or ‘abnormal’ based on these cut-off points. We compared the CDR® plus NACC FTLD sum-of-boxes scores (CDR-SOB) at one year follow-up in these two groups. Result Compared to those with normal baseline volumes, C9orf72 expansion carriers at CDR-GS=0.5 showed significantly higher CDR-SOB scores at follow-up if they had abnormal volumes in the total frontal (+5 points), orbitofrontal (+3), dorsolateral prefrontal (+6), or anterior cingulate (+4) cortices, the basal-paralaminar amygdala region (+2), CA1 region of the hippocampus (+4), total hippocampus (+6), cerebellar lobule VIIIb (+4), or lateral ventricles (+8). GRN mutation carriers showed significantly higher CDR-SOB scores if their volumes were abnormal in the frontal (+10), parietal (+14), insula (+8), orbitofrontal (+12), or medial parietal (+7) cortices, or the total hippocampus (+10). Background Genetic frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is highly heterogeneous, with carriers of mutations in the same gene manifesting different phenotypes. Using in vivo MR images from the Genetic FTD Initiative (GENFI), we aimed to identify subgroups within the same genetic group whose brains were affected differently. Method Cortical and subcortical volumes of interest were generated using automated parcellation methods on volumetric 3T T1-weighted MRI scans for 479 carriers (198 GRN , 202 C9orf72 , and 79 MAPT mutation carriers). W-scores for 85 volumes of interest were computed from a linear regression model carried out on 298 non-carrier cognitively normal controls adjusting for the effect of age, sex, total intracranial volume and scanner type. Cluster analyses with the Ward agglomerating method were performed on all w-scores while considering the three genetic groups independently. The identified clusters were then compared for age, estimated years from onset, global and sum of boxes scores of the CDR® plus NACC FTLD (at baseline and after one year), neurofilament light chain (NfL) levels in the plasma and w-scores in brain regions typically showing early atrophy (Kruskal-Wallis test). Result We identified three clusters among the GRN mutation carriers and four in the MAPT and C9orf72 groups, which were all significantly different for the variables reported in the Table (p-value<0.003). For all three genetic groups, one cluster was formed by patients with a clinical diagnosis of FTD, with more extensive atrophy and increased disease severity. For the remaining clusters, there seemed to be an association with disease severity for MAPT and GRN mutation carriers but not so for C9orf72 expansion carriers where clinical scores were not clearly associated with a specific cluster. Encryption algorithms are applied to a variety of fields and the security of encryption algorithms depends heavily on the computational infeasibility of exhaustive key-space search. RC4 algorithm has an extensive application for stream encryption, however, the disadvantages of traditional RC4 serial algorithm are large computational quantity and slow computation speed, which means a great challenge for throughput of computing system. Graphics processors recently have been widely used as accelerators for high throughput computing. In this paper, GPU is used to improve the efficiency and performance of attacking RC4 algorithm. First, we revised RC4 algorithm to make it easier to parallelize on a GPU. Then we take advantage of constant memory and shared memory in GPU to search the key space of RC4 algorithm efficiently. Besides, we solved the bank conflict problem in shared memory to further improve the performance. Our approach was evaluated in the whole key space of 40-bit, and the results show it can complete searching of the whole key space within 12.8 hours. © 2016 IEEE.

Travelers＇ route choice behavior, a dynamical learning process based on their own experience, traffic information, and influence of others, is a type of cooperation optimization and a constant day-to-day evolutionary process. Travelers adjust their route choices to choose the best route, minimizing travel time and distance, or maximizing expressway use. Because route choice behavior is based on human beings, the most intelligent animals in the world, this swarm behavior is expected to in- corporate more intelligence. Unlike existing research in route choice behavior, the influence of other travelers is considered for updating route choices on account of the reality, which makes the route choice behavior from individual to swarm. Anew swarm intelligence algorithm inspired by travelers＇ route choice behavior for solving mathematical optimization problems is introduced in this paper. A comparison of the results of experiments with those of the classical global Particle Swarm Optimization （PSO） algorithm demonstrates the efficacy of the Route Choice Behavior Algorithm （RCBA）. The novel algorithm provides a new approach to solving complex problems and new avenues for the study of route choice behavior.

The Internet of Things (IoT) architecture is expected to evolve into a horizontal model containing various open systems, integrated environments, and platforms. However, not much research effort has been devoted to developing architectures for horizontal IoT solutions so far. This paper presents an IoT architecture based on Software-Defined Networking (SDN). In this architecture, devices, gateways, and data are open and programmable to IoT application developers and service operators. Moreover, IoT data provision and interoperability are supported at different levels. We present an implementation of the proposed architecture. Our implementation shows that the proposed architecture enables rapid creation of IoT applications by reusing ready applications and data. The measurement and evaluation results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed architecture.
