Dynamic graph link prediction is a challenging problem because the graph topology and node attributes vary at different times. A purely supervised learning scheme for the dynamic graph data usually leads to poor generalization due to insufficient supervision. As a promising solution, self-supervised learning can be introduced to dynamic graph analysis tasks. However, the self-supervised learning paradigm for dynamic graph learning has not been sufficiently investigated due to the complicated properties of the evolving graphs. We assume that the dynamic graphs consist of three independent types of key factors, i.e., graph time-variant information, time-invariant information and noise. Based on this assumption, we propose the Self-supervised Decoupling for Dynamic Graph (SDDG) framework for explicitly decoupling the representation which characterizes these three factors, thus enhancing the interpretability of the learned representation and link prediction performance. More specifically, we design an encoder-decoder architecture to sufficiently exploit the dynamic graph itself with multiple regularizations, so that the time-variant embedding of dynamic graph data can be effectively decoupled from the perspectives of node and structure for time-variant-aware link prediction. Experiments on five benchmark link prediction tasks demonstrate the significant improvement of our SDDG over the state-of-the-art methods. For example, SDDG achieves 98.2% and 97.3% Top-1 AUC on Reddit-B and Reddit-T, outperforming the DDGCL model, by 1.9% and 1.8%, respectively. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.

ChatGPT, an AI-based chatbot, offers coherent and useful replies based on analysis of large volumes of data. In this article, leading academics, scientists, distinguish researchers and engineers discuss the transformative effects of ChatGPT on modern education. This research discusses ChatGPT capabilities and its use in the education sector, identifies potential concerns and challenges. Our preliminary evaluation shows that ChatGPT perform differently in different subject areas including finance, coding, maths, and general public queries. While ChatGPT has the ability to help educators by creating instructional content, offering suggestions and acting as an online educator to learners by answering questions, transforming education through smartphones and IoT gadgets, and promoting group work, there are clear drawbacks in its use, such as the possibility of producing inaccurate or false data and circumventing duplicate content (plagiarism) detectors where originality is essential. The often reported "hallucinations" within GenerativeAI in general, and also relevant for ChatGPT, can render its use of limited benefit where accuracy is essential. What ChatGPT lacks is a stochastic measure to help provide sincere and sensitive communication with its users. Academic regulations and evaluation practices used in educational institutions need to be updated, should ChatGPT be used as a tool in education. To address the transformative effects of ChatGPT on the learning environment, educating teachers and students alike about its capabilities and limitations will be crucial. © 2023 The Authors

Vision-language models (VLMs) have demonstrated remarkable open-vocabulary object recognition capabilities, motivating their adaptation for dense prediction tasks like segmentation. However, directly applying VLMs to such tasks remains challenging due to their lack of pixel-level granularity and the limited data available for fine-tuning, leading to overfitting and poor generalization. To address these limitations, we propose Generalization Boosted Adapter (GBA), a novel adapter strategy that enhances the generalization and robustness of VLMs for open-vocabulary segmentation. GBA comprises two core components: (1) a Style Diversification Adapter (SDA) that decouples features into amplitude and phase components, operating solely on the amplitude to enrich the feature space representation while preserving semantic consistency;and (2) a Correlation Constraint Adapter (CCA) that employs cross-attention to establish tighter semantic associations between text categories and target regions, suppressing irrelevant low-frequency "noise" information and avoiding erroneous associations. Through the synergistic effect of the shallow SDA and the deep CCA, GBA effectively alleviates overfitting issues and enhances the semantic relevance of feature representations. As a simple, efficient, and plug-and-play component, GBA can be flexibly integrated into various CLIP-based methods, demonstrating broad applicability and achieving state-of-the-art performance on multiple open-vocabulary segmentation benchmarks. © 2024, CC BY.

Data-Free Knowledge Distillation (DFKD) enables knowledge transfer from teacher networks without access to the real dataset. However, generator-based DFKD methods often suffer from insufficient diversity or low-confidence in synthetic images, negatively impacting student network performance. This paper introduces DFMC, a generative feature-driven framework to mitigate the inherent limitations of DFKD. We propose exploiting semantic description between generative feature domains to guide augmentation strategies, avoiding random abstract inputs caused by inconsistent semantic quality. Then, by applying noise to the generative features, we produce contrastive learning pairs indirectly, limiting the sampling range of the feature domain to encourage the student network to learn domain-invariant features. Finally, we guide the student network to deeply mimic the teacher’s layer-wise implicit classification behavior for the augmented synthetic images. Extensive experiments across various datasets and downstream tasks demonstrate the effectiveness of DFMC, achieving significant improvements while preventing student networks from overfitting to semantic ambiguous images. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

Most pathway analysis methods based on simple nucleotide variations overlook mutations occurring in genes outside the pathway, fail to address mutation heterogeneity with targeted measures, and do not consider the functional relationships among gene components within biomolecular networks when modeling the contributions of biomarkers to pathways. So, we proposed a novel framework, named IntNet, for pathway analysis based on simple nucleotide variations. The core components of IntNet are sample reconstruction (SC) and a new biologically informed neural network model (BINN). To address the difficulty of extracting effective features caused by the mutation heterogeneity, IntNet reconstructs mutation samples based on the hypothesis that mutations in patients with the same phenotype may cluster in similar network regions. BINN uses the human gene network and expanded biological pathways to construct its neural network architecture. BINN implements mutation signaling propagation along the human gene network and integration within the pathways. IntNet's performance was validated using multiple cancer datasets. Experimental results demonstrated that IntNet could identify more accurate and reliable pathways.

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a prevalent disorder among women, often exacerbated by a lack of peer support due to associated stigmatization. Drawing inspiration from the established benefits of group therapy, particularly the sense of belonging it fosters, we developed a multi-chatbot group motivational interviewing system. The system consists of a facilitator bot and two peer bots, and simulates a group counseling environment for PMS management using Large Language Models (LLMs). We conducted a study with 63 participants and divided them into three conditions (no intervention, 1-on-1 chatbot, group chatbots) over two menstruation cycles for evaluation. Our findings revealed that participants in the group chat condition exhibited higher levels of engagement and language convergence with the chatbots. These participants were also able to engage in social learning and demonstrated motivation in coping through interactions with the chatbots. Finally, we discuss design implications for multi-chatbot interactions in supporting mental health. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s). Publication rights licensed to ACM.

Nowadays, the most efficient KWS methods are relying on machine learning techniques that require a large amount of annotated training data. However, in the case of historical manuscripts, there is a lack of annotated corpus for training. To handle the data scarcity issue, we investigate the merits of the self-supervised learning to extract useful representations of the input data without relying on human annotations and then using these representations in the downstream task. We propose ST-KeyS, a masked auto-encoder model based on vision transformers where the pretraining stage is based on the mask-and-predict paradigm, without the need of labeled data. In the fine-tuning stage, the pre-trained encoder is integrated into a siamese neural network model that is fine-tuned to improve feature embedding from the input images. We further improve the image representation using pyramidal histogram of characters (PHOC) embedding to create and exploit an intermediate representation of images based on text attributes. In an exhaustive experimental evaluation on three widely used benchmark datasets (Botany, Alvermann Konzilsprotokolle and George Washington), the proposed approach outperforms state-of-the-art methods trained on the same datasets. © 2023, CC BY.

GraphInstruct: Empowering Large Language Models with Graph Understanding and Reasoning Capability

Evaluating and enhancing the general capabilities of large language models (LLMs) has been an important research topic. Graph is a common data structure in the real world, and understanding graph data is a crucial part for advancing general intelligence. To evaluate and enhance the graph understanding abilities of LLMs, in this paper, we propose a benchmark named GraphInstruct, which comprehensively includes 21 classical graph reasoning tasks, providing diverse graph generation pipelines and detailed reasoning steps. Based on GraphInstruct, we further construct GraphLM through efficient instruction-tuning, which shows prominent graph understanding capability. In order to enhance the LLM with graph reasoning capability as well, we propose a step mask training strategy, and construct a model named GraphLM+. As one of the pioneering efforts to enhance the graph understanding and reasoning abilities of LLMs, extensive experiments have demonstrated the superiority of GraphLM and GraphLM+ over other LLMs. We look forward to more researchers exploring the potential of LLMs in the graph data mining domain through GraphInstruct. Multi-label learning has received much attention due to its wide range of application domains. Multi-label data often has high-dimensional features, which brings more challenges to classification algorithms. Feature selection based on sparse learning is one of the most important approaches, which can select discriminative features to alleviate the curse of dimensionality. However, most of these methods do not consider feature redundancy and label correlation simultaneously. In this work, we propose a multi-label feature selection method that takes feature redundancy and label correlation into account. Specifically, the proposed method first divides features into groups according to feature correlation and then encourages competition within each group but relaxes competition between groups to eliminate redundant and irrelevant features. Moreover, we propose an approach to capture label correlation and exploit it to improve the feature selection. Finally, an iterative optimization algorithm is designed to obtain the feature weights for multi-label feature selection. Extensive experiments on various multi-label datasets demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method compared with some state-of-the-art multi-label feature selection methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.
