Radio-Frequency (RF)-based Human Activity Recognition (HAR) rises as a promising solution for applications unamenable to techniques requiring computer visions. However, the scarcity of labeled RF data due to their non-interpretable nature poses a significant obstacle. Thanks to the recent breakthrough of foundation models (FMs), extracting deep semantic insights from unlabeled visual data become viable, yet these vision-based FMs fall short when applied to small RF datasets. To bridge this gap, we introduce FM-Fi, an innovative cross-modal framework engineered to translate the knowledge of vision-based FMs for enhancing RF-based HAR systems. FM-Fi involves a novel cross-modal contrastive knowledge distillation mechanism, enabling an RF encoder to inherit the interpretative power of FMs for achieving zero-shot learning. It also employs the intrinsic capabilities of FM and RF to remove extraneous features for better alignment between the two modalities. The framework is further refined through metric-based few-shot learning techniques, aiming to boost the performance for predefined HAR tasks. Comprehensive evaluations evidently indicate that FM-Fi rivals the effectiveness of vision-based methodologies, and the evaluation results provide empirical validation of FM-Fi's generalizability across various environments. © 2024 Copyright is held by the owner/author(s).

Mahalanobis Distance-based Multi-view Optimal Transport for Multi-view Crowd Localization

Multi-view crowd localization predicts the ground locations of all people in the scene. Typical methods usually estimate the crowd density maps on the ground plane first, and then obtain the crowd locations. However, the performance of existing methods is limited by the ambiguity of the density maps in crowded areas, where local peaks can be smoothed away. To mitigate the weakness of density map supervision, optimal transport-based point supervision methods have been proposed in the single-image crowd localization tasks, but have not been explored for multi-view crowd localization yet. Thus, in this paper, we propose a novel Mahalanobis distance-based multi-view optimal transport (M-MVOT) loss specifically designed for multi-view crowd localization. First, we replace the Euclidean-based transport cost with the Mahalanobis distance, which defines elliptical iso-contours in the cost function whose long-axis and short-axis directions are guided by the view ray direction. Second, the object-to-camera distance in each view is used to adjust the optimal transport cost of each location further, where the wrong predictions far away from the camera are more heavily penalized. Finally, we propose a strategy to consider all the input camera views in the model loss (M-MVOT) by computing the optimal transport cost for each ground-truth point based on its closest camera. Experiments demonstrate the advantage of the proposed method over density map-based or common Euclidean distance-based optimal transport loss on several multi-view crowd localization datasets. It is crucial to predict the outputs of a thickening system,including the underflow concentration(UC)and mud pressure,for optimal control of the *** proliferation of industrial sensors and the availability of thickening-system data make this ***,the unique properties of thickening systems,such as the non-linearities,long-time delays,partially observed data,and continuous time evolution pose challenges on building data-driven predictive *** address the above challenges,we establish an integrated,deep-learning,continuous time network structure that consists of a sequential encoder,a state decoder,and a derivative module to learn the deterministic state space model from thickening *** a case study,we examine our methods with a tailing thickener manufactured by the FLSmidth installed with massive sensors and obtain extensive experimental *** results demonstrate that the proposed continuous-time model with the sequential encoder achieves better prediction performances than the existing discrete-time models and reduces the negative effects from long time delays by extracting features from historical system *** proposed method also demonstrates outstanding performances for both short and long term prediction tasks with the two proposed derivative types.

Colored Petri nets (CPNs) provide descriptions of the concurrent behaviors for software and hardware. Model checking based on CPNs is an effective method to simulate and verify the concurrent behavior in system design. However, the model-checking method traverses the full state space, which suffers from the state-space explosion problem. A reduced state-space generation method related to the property of concurrent systems is proposed. Specifically, we extend CPNs to define a property-related model (CPN-PR) and give a property-related analysis method whose results can be used to generate the CPN-PR model. A reduced state-space generation method is developed based on enabled binding element filtering rules. The stutter trace equivalence between the state spaces of CPN and CPN-PR has been proven by showing that the reduced state space may not change the model-checking result. A comparison experiment is conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. © 1982-2012 IEEE.

Colorectal intraepithelial neoplasia is a precancerous lesion of colorectal cancer, which is mainly diagnosed using pathological images. According to the characteristics of lesions, precancerous lesions can be classified into four different grades, i.e., background, normal, low and high level. However, due to the continuity of lesion development, tissue in different stages has high similarity. Recently, visual transformers have achieved impressive results in different visual tasks, due to their capacity of capturing long-range dependencies. However, due to computational cost, transformer cannot well extract detailed feature, which is important for lesion grading. To accurately segment pathological tissues with high similarity, in this work, we embed the multi-head MLP mixer module in the transformer network to extract cell and edge information. Furthermore, we propose a hierarchical MLP decoder to facilitate multi-scale feature fusion. The proposed transformer, namely MLPFormer, achieves remarkable results against competitive baselines on the Histo-CRC Biopsy dataset. The experimental results demonstrate that MLPFormer significantly outperforms the competitive baselines, i.e., a 3% dice improvement is achieved over the SegFormer series. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

Leukemia, a malignant disease characterized by the rapid proliferation of specific types of white blood cells (WBC), has prompted increased interest in leveraging automatic WBC classification system. This study presents the design of a robust WBC classification system, integrating deep learning with microscopic image analysis. The proposed classification model is designed to categorize blood cells into four distinct groups: eosinophil, lymphocyte, monocyte, and neutrophil. The study employs a Kaggle image dataset for comprehensive learning. The dataset comprises 12,500 microscopic images used to categorize the four blood cell groups. To enhance performance and reduce the likelihood of overfitting, transfer learning techniques are employed. Six deep transfer learning models namely VGG16, ResNet50, AlexNet, MobileNet, GoogLeNet, and EfficientNetBO are used for feature extraction and classification. The results of the experiments show that VGG16 and MobileNet demonstrated enhancements compared to other pre-trained models when evaluated on both augmented and original datasets. A diverse set of evaluation criteria was employed to thoroughly assess the effectiveness of medical image classification. Notably, the VGG16 and MobileNet models accurately predicted Lymphocytes and Monocytes with a 100% accuracy rate, and Eosinophil and Neutrophil with rates of 99.35% and 99.81%, respectively. This research work empower medical practitioners, particularly in the field of pathology and hematology by providing advanced tools for accurate blood cell classification. The proposed VGG16 and MobileNet models hold promise for simplifying WBC classification, improving decision-making processes, and ultimately advancing patient care in the medical domain. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

A fundamental barrier to the adoption of AI systems in clinical practice is the insufficient transparency of AI decision-making. The field of Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) seeks to provide human-interpretable explanations for a given AI model. The recently proposed Neural Explanation Mask (NEM) framework is the first XAI method to explain learned representations with high accuracy at real-time speed. NEM transforms a given differentiable model into a self-explaining system by augmenting it with a neural network-based explanation module. This module is trained in an unsupervised manner to output occlusion-based explanations for the original model. However, the current framework does not consider labels associated with the inputs. This makes it unsuitable for many important tasks in the medical domain that require explanations specific to particular output dimensions, such as pathology discovery, disease severity regression, and multi-label data classification. In this work, we address this issue by introducing a loss function for training explanation modules incorporating labels. It steers explanations toward target labels alongside an integrated smoothing operator, which reduces artifacts in the explanation masks. We validate the resulting Neural Explanation Masks with target labels (NEMt) framework on public databases of lung radiographs and skin images. The obtained results are superior to the state-of-the-art XAI methods in terms of explanation relevancy mass, complexity, and sparseness. Moreover, the explanation generation is several hundred times faster, allowing for real-time clinical applications. As scientific codes are ported between GPU platforms, continuous testing is required to ensure numerical robustness and identify potential numerical differences between platforms. Compiler-induced numerical differences can occur when a program is compiled and run on different GPUs and compilers, and the numerical outcomes are different for the same input. We present a study of compiler-induced numerical differences between NVIDIA and AMD GPUs, two widely used GPUs in HPC clusters. Our approach uses a random program generator (Varity) to generate thousands of short numerical tests in CUDA and HIP, and their inputs;then, we use differential testing to check if the program produced a numerical inconsistency when run on NVIDIA and AMD GPUs, using the same compiler optimization level. We also use the AMD's HIPIFY tool to convert CUDA tests into HIP tests and test if there are numerical inconsistencies induced by HIPIFY. In our study, we generated more than 600,000 tests and found subtle numerical differences occurring between the two classes of GPUs. We found that some of the differences come from (1) math library calls, (2) differences in floating-point precision (FP64 versus FP32), and (3) converting code to HIP with HIPIFY. © 2024 IEEE.

visual-only self-supervised learning has achieved significant improvement in video representation learning. Existing related methods encourage models to learn video representations by utilizing contrastive learning or designing specific pretext tasks. However, some models are likely to focus on the background, which is unimportant for learning video representations. To alleviate this problem, we propose a new view called long-range residual frame to obtain more motion-specific information. Based on this, we propose the Motion-Contrastive Perception Network (MCPNet), which consists of two branches, namely, Motion Information Perception (MIP) and Contrastive Instance Perception (CIP), to learn generic video representations by focusing on the changing areas in videos. Specifically, the MIP branch aims to learn fine-grained motion features, and the CIP branch performs contrastive learning to learn overall semantics information for each instance. Experiments on two benchmark datasets UCF-101 and HMDB-51 show that our method outperforms current state-of-the-art visual-only self-supervised approaches. © 2022 IEEE.
