Axions, hypothetical elementary particles that remain undetectable in nature, can arise as quasiparticles in three-dimensional crystals known as axion insulators. Previous implementations of axion insulators have largely been limited to two-dimensional systems, leaving their topological properties in three dimensions unexplored in experiment. Here, we realize an axion insulator in a three-dimensional photonic crystal and probe its topological properties. Demonstrated features include half-quantized Chern numbers on each surface that resembles a fractional Chern insulator, unidirectional chiral hinge states forming topological transport in three dimensions, and arithmetic operations between fractional and integer Chern numbers. Our work experimentally establishes the axion insulator as a three-dimensional topological phase of matter and enables chiral states to form complex, unidirectional three-dimensional networks through braiding.

In current granular clustering algorithms, numeric representatives were selected by users or an ordinary strategy, which seemed simple; meanwhile, weight settings for granular data could not adequately express their structural characteristics. Aiming at these problems, in this study, a new scheme called a granular weighted kernel fuzzy clustering (GWKFC) algorithm is put forward. We propose the representative selection and granularity generation (RSGG) algorithm enlightened by the density peak clustering (DPC) algorithm. We build interval and triangular granular data on the strength of numeric representatives obtained by RSGG under the principle of justifiable granularity (PJG), in which we establish some combinations of functions and boundary constraints and prove their properties. Furthermore, we present a novel distance formula via the kernel function for granular data and design new weights to affect the coverage and specificity of granular data. In addition, based upon these factors, we come up with the GWKFC algorithm of granular clustering, and its performance with different granularity is assessed. To sum up, a macro framework involving granular modeling, granular clustering, and assessment has been set up. Lastly, the GWKFC algorithm and ten other granular clustering algorithms are compared by experiments on some artificial and UCI datasets together with datasets with large data or those of high dimensionality. It is found that the GWKFC algorithm can provide better granular clustering results by contrast with other algorithms. The originality is embodied as follows. First, we improve the previous density radius and present the RSGG algorithm to acquire numeric representatives. Second, we propose a new strategy to determine granular data boundaries and further obtain novel weights enlightened by the idea of volume. Distributed time-varying formation control with uncertainties based on an event-triggered mechanism

This paper investigates the distributed time-varying formation(TVF) problems for general linear multi-agent systems(MASs) subject to matched bounded uncertainties based on an adaptive event-triggered mechanism. A TVF protocol was designed with an event-triggered mechanism by introducing adaptive weights into the formation control protocol and triggering condition, and the large chattering phenomenon was avoided by the σ-modification adaptive law. According to the Lyapunov stability theory, proof has been established that the MASs in the presence of uncertainties can realize the expected formation that satisfies the given feasible condition. Finally, an example is provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Hand Gesture Recognition from an Open-Set Perspective

Existing hand gesture recognition methods predominantly rely on a close-set assumption, which in essence limits the viewpoints, gesture categories, and hand shapes at test time to closely resemble those seen during training. This requirement is however rarely met in practice, as images are often captured from unconstrained viewpoints, with novel gestures and unseen hand shapes that can differ significantly from the training data. This motivates us to investigate an open-set hand gesture recognition problem, where hand gestures are still recognizable from unconstrained viewpoints, and novel gesture classes and hand shapes can be incrementally learned with just a few examples. To address this, we propose a viewpoint influence elimination network that extracts view-independent features, significantly improving performance in scenarios with unconstrained viewpoints. Moreover, a joint-weighted classification scheme is introduced to augment the cosine similarity metric for evaluating few-shot incremental learning of novel gestures and shapes. Finally, as existing hand gesture recognition datasets primarily adhere to the close-set assumption, a new hand gesture recognition dataset, OHG, is introduced in this paper, that includes a wide range of viewpoints, diverse gesture classes, and distinct hand shapes. Experimental hand gesture recognition results demonstrate the superior performance of our approach in both unconstrained viewpoint and few-shot incremental learning scenarios. The COVID-19 epidemic started in 2019 and it is still important to develop intelligent and efficient diagnostic methods for the detection of COVID-19. In the task of COVID-19 X-ray image recognition, conventional deep neural networks encounter challenges in effectively discerning distinctive features within pneumonia images, resulting in limited generalization capability when confronted with novel samples. To address this issue, we introduce a novel model in this paper, denoted as PDCapsNet. The model effectively exploits Pyconv's multi-scale fusion technique and leverages the capsule network's capacity to encapsulate diverse attributes of specific entities within COVID-19 X-ray images, resulting in enhancements in both accuracy and generalization. Experimental results show that the proposed model outperforms other previous related works. © 2023 IEEE.

AI/ML is envisioned to play an essential role in 6G mobile communication systems. The privacy-preserving capabil-ities of Federated Learning (FL) make it promising in vertical applications; however, the central server-based system and lack of trusted data management limit its widespread use. To effectively support FL as a service from a network architecture perspective, this work provides a comprehensive design including three key features: First, the network architecture enables transparent and traceable data management based on Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) platform, and realizes distributed and off-chain data storage by adopting Distributed Data Storage Entity (DDSE). Second, the central aggregator of an FL service is decoupled from the data management scheme mentioned above, and is decentralized through smart contracts for aggregator selection among a set of aggregator candidates, with the selected aggregator subsequently responsible for client selection and model aggregation. Third, a completed set of procedures for FL services operations is defined. A simulation system is developed to verify the feasibility of the proposed architecture and to study the impact of introducing the data management mechanisms on the overall performance overhead. The results show that the impact is related to the FL settings, with a worst-case time overhead of 15% observed in selected test cases, i.e., 15% of the total time spent on the interactions with the DLT platform and DDSE.
