Effect of Mn alloying on the hydrogen-assisted cracking behavior in multiphase/duplex stainless steel

There remains debate on whether Mn is beneficial or detrimental to hydrogen embrittlement in stainless *** this work,a series of stainless steels were designed to study the change of hydrogen embrit-tlement sensitivity,crack propagation,and hydrogen trapping behaviors upon Mn *** results suggest that adding 4 wt.％Mn increased hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility,whereas adding 8 wt.％Mn decreased hydrogen embrittlement *** banded α'-martensite through austenitic grain is the main reason for the increased hydrogen embrittlement sensitivity when adding 4 wt.％Mn,by ad-sorbing hydrogen,promoting crack initiation,and accelerating crack propagation.

Various research has addressed the overconfidence problem, and we focus on improving the robustness of post-hoc calibration (e.g., temperature scaling, TS) when the test set shifts from the training set by image corruption. TS is greatly affected by the validation set, which previous work has proposed to perturb by Gaussian noise to improve calibration under domain drift. Inspired by this, we discovered that the same or similar augmentation on the validation set substantially improved TS under corrupted shift. We proposed a learnable and dynamic augmentation-based TS method, AugTS, which minimizes the maximum mean discrepancy (MMD) between the augmented validation and corrupted test set. Experiments on corrupted versions of CIFAR-10, CIFAR-100, and TinyImageNet show that AugTS can significantly improve calibration under corrupted shifts compared with competitive baselines. © 2025 IEEE.

Amidst the ever-growing interest in high-mass-loading Li battery electrodes,a persistent challenge has been the insufficient continuity of their ion/electron conduction ***,we propose cellulose elementary fibrils(CEFs)as a class of deagglomerated binder for high-mass-loading *** from natural wood,CEF represents the most fundamental unit of cellulose with nanoscale *** preparation of the CEFs involves the modulation of intermolecular hydrogen bonding by the treatment with a proton acceptor and a hydrotropic *** elementary deagglomeration of the cellulose fibers increases surface area and anionic charge density,thus promoting uniform dispersion with carbon conductive additives and suppressing interfacial side reactions at ***,a homogeneous redox reaction is achieved throughout the *** resulting CEF-based cathode(overlithiated layered oxide(OLO)is chosen as a benchmark electrode active material)exhibits a high areal-mass-loading(50 mg cm^(-2),equivalent to an areal capacity of 12.5 mAh cm^(-2))and a high specific energy density(445.4 Wh kg–1)of a cell,which far exceeds those of previously reported OLO *** study highlights the viability of the deagglomerated binder in enabling sustainable high-mass-loading electrodes that are difficult to achieve with conventional synthetic polymer binders.

We deal with a model with discrete varying coefficients to consider modeling for heterogeneity and clustering for homogeneity, and estimate the varying coefficients by generalized group fused Lasso (GGFL). GGFL allows homogeneous groups to be joined together based on one-to-many relationships among groups. This makes GGFL a powerful technique, but to date there has been no effective algorithm for obtaining the solutions. Here we propose an algorithm for obtaining a GGFL solution based on the coordinate descent method, and show that a solution for each coordinate direction converges to the optimal solution. In a simulation, we show our algorithm is superior to ADMM, which is one of the popular algorithms. We also present an application to a spatial data analysis. © The Author(s) 2024.

With the rapid expansion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) services, smart devices generate a large amount of user data at the edge network, which urgently needs to be protected while effectively extracting information. Federated learning (FL) is an important technology for handling dispersed data and strict privacy requirements in this context. However, the security threats caused by model inversion attacks and poisoning attacks can affect the mutual trust between the client and server. Yet, for these two types of attacks, the existing defense mechanisms are contradictory in terms of whether the model parameters are publicly disclosed. In addition, the data distribution of the clients is imbalanced which will increase the bias of model, reducing its practicality. To address this issue, this study proposes a dual defense self-balanced federated learning (DDSFL) framework, aiming to introduce a novel lightweight defense mechanism during the model parameter aggregation stage, combating these two types of attacks simultaneously by applying differential privacy and adjusting learning rates. In addition, this method also integrates a middleware-based reordering algorithm to enhance the robustness of the framework. Experimental results show that DDSFL effectively improves the ability to resist imbalanced data, forged data, and malicious behavior, significantly enhancing the generalization performance and security of the FL system. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

The advancement of the Industry 5.0 in information technology has led to increased interest in integrating edge-cloud cooperation with Internet of Things (IoT) and cyber-physical system (CPS) designs. This integration effectively reduces service delays and provides real-time analysis feedback to physical spaces, attracting attention from both academia and industry. These advanced technologies enhance production system intelligence, their alignment with circular economy principles for promoting sustainability has been overlooked. To address this gap, this article proposes an intelligent sustainability evaluation strategy driven by edge-cloud cooperation, IoT, and CPS. The proposed approach aims to enhance production sustainability and intelligence through circular economy perspectives. It introduces improved gray relation analysis and deep clustering network techniques to extract meaningful insights from diverse indicators within the evaluation system. By analyzing relationships between different equipment and workshops, it provides an analytical method that enhances production efficiency while reducing energy consumption and resource waste. To further validate the proposed method, an illustrative example using a partner company’s production data demonstrates its accuracy. © 2014 IEEE.

Mathematical modeling of the synergetic effect between radiotherapy and immunotherapy

The synergy between radiotherapy and immunotherapy plays a pivotal role in enhancing tumor control and treatment outcomes. To explore the underlying mechanisms of synergy, we investigated a novel treatment approach known as personalized ultra-fractionated stereotactic adaptive radiation (PULSAR) therapy, which emphasizes the impact of radiation timing. Unlike conventional daily treatments, PULSAR delivers high-dose radiation in spaced intervals over weeks or months, enabling tumors to adapt and potentially enhancing synergy with immunotherapy. Drawing on insights from small-animal radiation studies, we developed a discrete-time model based on multiple difference equations to elucidate the temporal dynamics of tumor control driven by both radiation and the adaptive immune response. By accounting for the migration and infiltration of T cells within the tumor microenvironment, we established a quantitative link between radiation therapy and immunotherapy. Model parameters were estimated using a simulated annealing algorithm applied to training data, and our model achieved high accuracy for the test data with a root mean square error of 287 mm3. Notably, our framework replicated the PULSAR effect observed in animal studies, revealing that longer intervals between radiation treatments in the context of immunotherapy yielded enhanced tumor control. Specifically, mice receiving immunotherapy alongside radiation pulses delivered at extended intervals, ten days, showed markedly improved tumor responses, whereas those treated with shorter intervals did not achieve comparable benefits. Moreover, our model offers an in-silico tool for designing future personalized ultra-fractionated stereotactic adaptive radiation trials. Overall, these findings underscore the critical importance of treatment timing in harnessing the synergy between radiotherapy and immunotherapy and highlight the potential of our model to optimize and individualize treatment protocols. ©2025 the Author(s)
