Recently, much attention is drawn for integrating MANET with Internet in order to extend network coverage and applications domain of ad hoc networks. In this paper, we propose a modified Dynamic Sequence Routing method for providing a route between MANET and Internet through a gateway. In the proposed scheme we introduce a flag field in the packet to differentiate whether the packet is destined to MANET or to Internet. The gateway provides network address translation functionality by maintaining a table for mapping between the local and the global addresses. In order to verify the performance of our system we have run a set of computer simulations using the OPNET modeler. The performance in terms of through and delay are compared with those of the conventional method. The simulation results show that our method is superior to the conventional method.

This paper describes a new tree-based routing method which can be used to connect heterogeneous networks. In the proposed method, a source node located in one network sends packets to a group of nodes in another network. In our scenario, a source node normally belongs to a mobile ad hoc network, while a group of nodes consists of sensor nodes in the specified geographical region. The source node sends a packet to destination nodes in order to aggregate sensor data. Our protocol attains energy efficiency and accuracy by incorporating a metric for constructing the tree according to routes. The metric is calculated using parameters such as power and neighborhood connectivity. Before constructing a tree, hello messages are sent, depending on local mobility, for updating the list of neighbors. After constructing the tree, the link lifetime is evaluated periodically in order to maintain the freshness of a link along the route. In order to verify the performance of the proposed scheme, we conducted a set of computer simulations using the OPNET modeler. We measured the performance of the system in terms of delay, packet loss and accuracy of packet delivery. Results are compared to those of a conventional method. The results show that the proposed method improves efficiency by as much as 20% compared with that of a conventional method.

Wireless local area networks are presently widely deployed so that different stations can potentially associate with an access point (AP). The AP selection strategy is one of the significant research areas for wireless local area networks. The selection strategy solves the relevant problem of which AP can be selected and associated with a station so that efficient resource utilization can be obtained. Rather than merely choosing the AP with the strongest received signal strength, however, we calculate the effective throughput for each neighboring AP and use the result as a basis for the AP selection. Referencing the throughput is better than referencing the signal strength because the network may contain a severe load imbalance. We performed computer simulations using the OPNET modeler in order to verify the performance of our scheme. The results show us that our proposed selection method outperforms the conventional one in terms of throughput.

Due to the resource limitations of sensor nodes, providing security protocols is a particular challenge in sensor networks. A popular proposed method is the neighborhood based key agreement protocol (NEKAP), which is an improvement over the well-known Localized Encryption and Authentication Protocol (LEAP). NEKAP is an efficient and light-weight protocol, but includes loopholes through which adversaries may launch replay attack by successfully masquerading as legitimate nodes and thereby compromise the communications over the network. In this paper, we present a modified security protocol for wireless sensor networks. As in NEKAP and LEAP protocol, we provide four types of keys in each node, which adapt to different security requirements. In addition, we present a new key agreement protocol with low-overhead performance. Also the improvement on the performance is discussed and analyzed on several typical attacks found in wireless sensor networks, i.e., replay attack. The performance verification through using a qualitative analysis indicates that our new security protocol can enhance the security resilience of wireless sensor networks better than the conventional methods.

Protocol architecture for a web-sensor gateway interconnecting internet and wireless sensor network is investigated. The web-sensor gateway is to deliver data between TCP/IP and Zigbee/IEEE802.15.4 protocols, transparently. Since the gateway provides a means to remotely control and aggregate sensor data over the internet, it needs to be designed in the view point of users and in their convenience. In accordance, the common gateway interface technology satisfying users on the web browser to efficiently manage and query the sensors in the wireless sensor networks, ubiquitously, is also introduced.

This article presents performance analysis of multiple channel noise cancellation by beam forming algorithm depending on the variation of arrival of angles of the interference signal. In this article we examined that the effectiveness of the desired signal by the different arrival of angles of interference signals. The variation of the arrival angles of the interference signal considered -150 0 to +150 0 with 30 0 intervals and the desired signal arrival angle is 0 0 . The desired signal and the optimized multi-layer perception (MLP) were used to calculate the correlation values at different angle. We also used the Back propagation algorithm as learning rule for MLP and improving our signal quality. This involves a desired signal whilst removing any noise or interference signals which may come from different sources.

In many spatial analyses and visualizations related to terrain, a high resolution and accurate digital surface model (DSM) is essential. To develop a robust interpolation and smoothing solutions for airborne light detection and ranging (LIDAR) point clouds, we introduce the weighted adaptive mapping LS-SVM to fit the LIDAR data. The SVM and the weighted LS-SVM are introduced to generate DSM for the sub-region in the original LIDAR data, and the generated DSM for this region is optimized using the points located within this region and additional points from its neighborhood. The fitting results are adaptively optimized by the local standard deviation and the global standard deviation, which decide whether the SVM or the weighted LS-SVM is applied to fit the sub-region. The smooth fitting results on synthesis and actual LIDAR data set demonstrate that the proposed smooth fitting method is superior to the standard SVM and the weighted LS-SVM in robustness and accuracy. © 2008 SPIE.

Recently, the triple play service (TPS) has been considered to be a promising business model or application. Thus, the capability for multicast transmission has become a very important requirement for access networks. However, unlike existing passive optical networks (PONs), the arrayed-waveguide grating (AWG) based wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM)-PON does not have multicast capability because it is a P2P network for the downstream direction, from optical line terminal (OLT) to optical network units (ONUs). In this paper, AWG-based WDM-PON architecture with multicast capability is proposed. It provides high scalability and single copy broadcast (SCB) capability by employing multi-stage AWGs at a remote node (RN) and a multi-wavelength converter (MWC) at OLT. The performance of the proposed architecture is evaluated in terms of cost, scalability, link capacity and bandwidth per user, in both upstream and downstream directions, by comparison with other multicasting architectures. ©2008 IEEE.

In our previous paper, we have developed a projector-Based color matching system for print industry. In this system, a color of print can be matched lo the desired color to minimize the color difference between print and projected images. However, in this color matching, it is necessary to observe and measure the projector image under the dark room. In this paper, we proposed a new color correction method for projector image under dim illumination based on the C1ECAM02. As well known, in the dim room, the color gamut of reproduced image becomes narrow compared with the gamut in the darkroom. M. Ashdown et al. proposed a method to compress the color gamut in the CIEL*u*v* color space. However, the chromatic adaptation according to the change of white point of the illumination is not considered in this method. Therefore we introduce C1ECAM02 for color matching under the dim viewing condition. Chromatic and achromatic channels in CIECAM02 space are calculated from an input image and the chromatic channels are compressed to match the possible projection range of output under the illumination. The images obtained by conventional and proposed algorithms are evaluated by the psychophysical experiment used memory matching. As a result, it was shown that the proposed method can improve the color appearance under dim illumination. © 2008 Society for Imaging Science and technology.
