The writers are developing the production process device of thin-film material for the flexible solar cells using the high-frequency plasma chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method. In order to clarify the characteristics of the device, plasma treatment is applied on the Si wafer surface and basic characteristic of plasma is found by the analysis of the B doped p-type (100) Si wafer surface using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and contact angle measuring gauge.

AAA+ proteins RUVBL1 and RUVBL2 coordinate PIKK activity and function in nonsense-mediated mRNA decay

Phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase-related protein kinase (PIKK) family proteins play essential roles in DNA-based and RNA-based processes, such as the response to DNA damage, messenger RNA (mRNA) quality control, transcription, and translation, where they contribute to the maintenance of genome integrity and accurate gene expression. The adenosine triphosphatases associated with diverse cellular activities (AAA+) family proteins RuvB-like 1 (RUVBL1) and RUVBL2 are involved in various cellular processes, including transcription, RNA modification, DNA repair, and telomere maintenance. We show that RUVBL1 and RUVBL2 associate with each PIKK family member. We also show that RUVBL1 and RUVBL2 control PIKK abundance at least at the mRNA level. Knockdown of RUVBL1 or RUVBL2 decreased PIKK abundance and impaired PIKK-mediated signaling. Analysis of SMG-1, a PIKK family member involved in nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD), revealed an essential role for RUVBL1 and RUVBL2 in NMD. RUVBL1 and RUVBL2 associated with SMG-1 and the messenger ribonucleoproteins in the cytoplasm and promoted the formation of mRNA surveillance complexes during NMD. Thus, RUVBL1 and RUVBL2 regulate PIKK functions on two different levels: They control the abundance of PIKKs and they stimulate the formation of PIKK-containing molecular complexes, such as those involved in NMD. The ground-state bands of Cf248,250,252 have been established up to the 10+, 12+, and 10+ states, respectively, by in-beam γ-ray spectroscopy using neutron-transfer reactions with a 153-MeV O18 beam and a highly radioactive Cf target. The deexcitation γ rays in Cf248,250,252 were identified by taking coincidences with outgoing particles of O16−19 measured with Si ΔE−E detectors, and by selecting their kinetic energies. Moments of inertia of Cf248,250,252 were discussed in terms of the N=152 deformed shell gap.

Neural specificity of acupuncture stimulation at pericardium 6: Evidence from an fMRI study

Purpose: To investigate the neural specificity of pericardium PC6, with the same meridian acupoint PC7 and a treatment-irrelevant acupoint GB37 as separate controls. Materials and Methods: Functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the whole brain was performed in 36 healthy subjects receiving acupuncture at three acupoints, respectively: the study acupoint (PC6), and control acupoints (PC7 and GB37). A novel nonrepeated eventrelated (NRER) design paradigm was applied to separately detect neural activities related to different stages of acupuncture (needling manipulation and post-acupuncture rest epoch). Psychophysical responses (Deqi sensations) were also assessed. Results: Neuroimaging studies of PC6 presented extensive signal attenuations in the cerebrocerebellar and subcortical areas, whereas acupuncture at GB37 induced widespread signal potentiations. In addition, acupuncture at PC6, in comparison with stimulations at PC7 and GB37, selectively evoked neural responses of the insula, hypothalamus, and flocculonodular lobe of cerebellum (nodulus and uvula). Conclusion: These findings may provide preliminary evidence for specific involvements of the cerebellar-hypothalamus and insula following acupuncture at PC6, which underlies the autonomic regulation of vestibular functions. The predominantly time-prolonged deactivations in these areas may also serve the clinical efficacy of PC6 in producing a sedative or tranquilizing effect in antiemetic treatment. © 2009 Wiley-Liss, Inc.

Recently as video cameras,digital cameras and low-priced video authoring tools have been getting commonly used,the opportunities of authoring personal videos have increased. However,the quality of a created movie requires not only a capability to draw up a scenario but also the skill to operate the technical tools. In order to make amateur users to concentrate scenario when editing movies,we propose a scenario-centered video authoring method in which we extract the scenario structure from a movie,construct its network model,and then edit the movie based on the network model.

Recently, it has been common that people retrieve necessary content from the Web, rather than they create it by themselves. This is because it has become easier for them to find various content on the Web, which is close to the one they want. However, most content they can find do not perfectly match with what they want, although parts of it satisfy with their needs. Therefore, in this paper we aim to propose a method to re-create a new content from existing content on the Web by recycling parts of it. We firstly analyze content on the Web by means of CommonKADS methodology and then represent it as a structured content so that parts of it can be replaced by those of other content. As an example of our proposed method, we show a re-creation of a new cooking recipe from other existing recipes on the Web.

Evaluation of ship handling training has usually depended on professionals who have a lot of experience on board. We are attempting to evaluate a ship navigator's mental workload (stress) based on a physiological index. The physiological indices, heart rate variability and nasal temperature, are good indices of the stress found in ship handling; however, it is best if we get response and evaluation results quickly on the spot. A recent study shows salivary amylase activity is reflected by the sympathetic nervous system. This paper proposes that salivary amylase activity shows a ship navigator's stress during ship handling.
