Evaluation for effectiveness and efficiency of artificial reefs (AR) development is quite difficult and troublesome. This is because of high cost incurred. As for common practice, evaluation process is done by special dive task force unit to conduct diving activity to observe on how AR has developed. This paper presents a framework architecture to integrate location coordinate data (longitude and latitude) of AR with the fish catches data at all identified jetty. In SIDIF, the data of fish catches will be mapped with data on location coordinate of AR as a whole via mapping and integration of these two (2) different databases. Using this methodology, the effectiveness and efficiency of AR development will be achieved as well as the evaluation will be measured. In this study, research only made integration two database only namely artificial reef database (ARPOS) and fish landing database (WiFISH). Before integration process both this database is conducted, various issues should be identified over proceed.

Terascale astronomical datasets have the potential to provide unprecedented insights into the origins of our universe. However, automated techniques for determining regions of interest are a must if domain experts are to cope with the intractable amounts of simulation data. This paper addresses the important problem of locating and tracking high density regions in space that generally correspond to halos and sub-halos and host galaxies. A density based, mode following clustering method called Automated Hierarchical Density Shaving (Auto-HDS) is adapted for this application. Auto-HDS can detect clusters of different densities while discarding the vast majority of background data. Two alternative parallel implementations of the algorithm, based respectively on the dataflow computational model and on Hadoop/ MapReduce functional programming constructs, are realized and compared. Based on runtime performance, scalability across compute cores and across increasing data volumes, we demonstrate the benefits of fine grain parallelism. The proposed distributed and multithreaded AutoHDS clustering algorithm is shown to produce high quality clusters, be computationally efficient, and scalable from 1 through 1024 compute-cores.

The most scientific papers dealing with handwriting recognition systems make statements relating to recognition performance based on a forced-recognition rate. This rate describes the ratio between the number of the correct recognized samples and the number of all possible samples. This paper proposes a new technique to improve the previous research work in order to have a better result. As part of the preprocessing phase the image file is checked for skewing. If the image is skewed, it is corrected by a simple rotation technique in the appropriate direction. Character fragmentation process is done based on the existing technique. The improvement of feature extraction process is made by detecting details of glyph and used as an input for the classification process of ANN (Artificial Neural Network) to develop a full OCR system. Result indicated that some versions, even upon first using them, were at least as good as last methods of recognition.

MapReduce is a programming model that supports distributed and parallel processing for large-scale data-intensive applications such as machine learning, data mining, and scientific simulation. Hadoop is an open-source implementation of the MapReduce programming model. Hadoop is used by many companies including Yahoo!, Amazon, and Facebook to perform various data mining on large-scale data sets such as user search logs and visit logs. In these cases, it is very common to share the same computing resources by multiple users due to practical considerations about cost, system utilization, and manageability. However, Hadoop assumes that all cluster nodes are dedicated to a single user, failing to guarantee high performance in the shared MapReduce computation environment. In this paper, we propose two optimization schemes, prefetching and pre-shuffling, which improve the overall performance under the shared environment while retaining compatibility with the native Hadoop. The proposed schemes are implemented in the native Hadoop-0.18.3 as a plug-in component called HPMR (high performance MapReduce engine). Our evaluation on the Yahoo!Grid platform with three different workloads and seven types of test sets from Yahoo! shows that HPMR reduces the execution time by up to 73%.

The move to higher frequencies has stimulated the development of the materials and integration techniques of the RF/microwave/millimeter (mm)-wave areas. Until now, materials commonly used at high frequency are either expensive or have inadequate performance. Liquid crystal polymers (LCPs), have attracted much more attention as advanced candidates as RF/microwave/mm-wave substrate materials for commercial wireless applications due to their combination of features and performance. In this paper, a compact V-band planar microstrip bandpass filter with sharp-rejection, low insertion-loss and wide-bandwidth based on the dual-mode ring resonator is proposed. The filter is fabricated on a LCP substrate by using standard processing technology. The proposed filter exhibits a return loss level better than 10 dB, an insertion loss of 5 dB, and a 3-dB bandwidth of 30%. The simulated and measured results are compared and agree well, which shows the promising potential of LCP laminates for flexible RF/microwave/mm-wave substrates.

This paper describes the coordination, design and implementation of the PRAGMA Grid. applications in genomics, quantum mechanics, climate simulation, organic chemistry and molecular simulation have driven the middleware requirements, and the PRAGMA Grid provides a mechanism for science and technology teams to collaborate, for grids to interoperate and for international users to share software beyond the essential, de facto standard Globus core. Several middleware tools developed by researchers within PRAGMA have been deployed in the PRAGMA grid and this has enabled significant insights, improvements and new collaborations to flourish. In this paper, we describe how human factors, resource availability and performance issues have affected the middleware, applications and the grid design. We also describe how middleware components in grid monitoring, grid accounting and grid file systems have dealt with some of the major characteristics of our grid. We also briefly describe a number of mechanisms that we have employed to make software easily available to PRAGMA and global grid communities. Copyright © 2007 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

This paper describes annotations for the Corpus of Spontaneous Japanese. The information we annotated to the corpus includes morphemes, clause units, dependency structures, summaries, and discourse structures. They are integrated in the form of XML. Morphological information was semi-automatically annotated to the transcribed text by reducing the human labor cost within the framework of morphological annotation that we proposed. Next, clause unites were detected based on the morphological information as basic units for our annotation. Then, dependency structures, summaries, discourse structures were annotated based on the clause units.

This paper describes the use of a data-driven autoregressive integrated moving average model to predict body core temperature in humans during physical activity. We also propose a bootstrap technique to provide a measure of reliability of such predictions in the form of prediction intervals. We investigate the model's predictive capabilities and associated reliability using two distinct datasets, both obtained in the field under different environmental conditions. One dataset is used to develop the model, and the other one, containing an example of heat illness, is used to test the model. We demonstrate that accurate and reliable predictions of an extreme core temperature value of 39.5 degC, can be made 20 minutes ahead of time, even when the predictive model is developed on a different individual having core temperatures within healthy physiological limits. This result suggests that data-driven models can be made portable across different core temperature levels and across different individuals. Also, we show that the bootstrap prediction intervals cover the actual core temperature, and that they exhibit intuitively expected behavior as a function of the prediction horizon and the core temperature variability.
