The tracking of objects and humans has recently received a lot of attention as a tool to improve business processes, occupational and public safety. In industrial environments wireless sensor networks can facilitate deployment of tracking applications as they can establish a standalone communication infrastructure (a so called mesh network). Many such positioning and location tracking systems deploy a fixed infrastructure (so-called beacons) with known positions to determine the position of mobile nodes in the network. For large-scale deployments the installation effort of such systems may be a major cost-factor, as the exact position of each beacon needs to be manually determined and associated with map material. We therefore propose a position determination tool that automatically finds the positions of beacons based on the sensor network's topology, digital map material of the environment, and a small set of anchor nodes.

In this article, we introduce Tsinghua Global Minimum (TGMin) as a new program for the global minimum searching of geometric structures of gas-phase or surface-supported atomic clusters, and the constrained basin-hopping (BH) algorithm implemented in this program. To improve the efficiency of the BH algorithm, several types of constraints are introduced to reduce the vast search space, including constraints on the random displacement step size, displacement of low-coordination atoms, and geometrical structure adjustment after displacement. The ultrafast shape-recognition (USR) algorithm and its variants are implemented to identify duplicate structures during the global minimum search. In addition to the Metropolis acceptance criterion, we also implemented a morphology-based constraint that confines the global minimum search to a specific type of morphology, such as planar or non-planar structures, which offers a strict divide-and-conquer strategy for the BH algorithm. These improvements are implemented in the TGMin program, which was developed over the past decade and has been used in a number of publications. We tested our TGMin program on global minimum structural searches for a number of metal and main-group clusters including C60, Au20 and B20 clusters. Over the past five years, the TGMin program has been used to determine the global minimum structures of a series of boron atomic clusters (such as [B26]^-, [B28]^-, [B30]^-, [B35]^-, [B36]^-, [B39]^-, [B40]^-, [MnB16]^-, [COB18]^-, [RhB18]^-, and [TaB20]^-), metal-containing clusters Lin (n = 3-20), Aug(CO)8^+ and [Cr6O19]^2-. and the oxide-supported metal catalyst Au7/γ-Al2O3, as well as other isolated and surface-supported atomic clusters. In this article we present the major features of TGMin program and show that it is highly efficient at searching for global-minimum structures of atomic clusters in the gas phase and on various surface supports.

Framework-based development is one of the major challenges in the field of rapid development of distributed applications. J2EE-based web applications represent an extremely interesting context for which development frameworks should be provided. Unfortunately, there are few integrated frameworks for such environments developed from a softwareengineering perspective. This paper presents the detailed design of JAFAR, our patternbased J2EE framework. It provides a way for framework developers to concretely reuse our approach or to compare their approaches to JAFAR. It also shows how such frameworks should be considered from a softwareengineering perspective, and it highlights the advantage of relating frameworks to a development methodology supported by a case tool.

Sun's J2EE environment is becoming one of the major technologies for the development of web applications. The reuse of stable and integrated components is a wellknown mean to achieve effective software development. Frameworks have this objective but few frameworks are available for the J2EE platform, and moreover, they are rarely integrated in a global methodological approach supported by a tool. Furthermore, the available literature mainly provides a general conceptual presentation of frameworks. The objective of this paper is to present, from a pragmatic perspective, the use of the J2EE framework called JAFAR devoted to the development of web applications. As JAFAR has been developed from a softwareengineering point of view, we also show how its use can be supported by CASE tools that support design modeling and allows pattern-based development. For this purpose we used the Rational XDE environment.

Architecture engineering is an area that is under construction for being transferred to software engineers. Many results exist from high-level formal and conceptual approaches to basic good practices taken from industrial experiences. Descriptions and methodologies should be at least considered for architecture engineering. Two interesting approaches to architecture description are available: Architecture Description Languages (ADL) or modeling languages (especially UML). In the first case, efforts have been made to provide rigorous integrated languages dedicated to architecture engineering but unfortunately these languages are incomplete and not ready for technology transfer. Concerning UML, many approaches use UML models for partial architecture descriptions. In both cases, a few efforts have been made on methodology. This paper presents the current state of the art covering architecture descriptions and development methodologies for architecture engineering. We present a first integrated approach, called FIDJI that tries to take advantage from ADLs, UML, and some development methodologies. FIDJI uses UML for its models, MDA for its layering and ADLs for precision. Concerning methodology, FIDJI follows the HP recommendations and the notion of refinement and contracts taken from formal development methodologies. Finally, we briefly illustrate the use of the FIDJI approach by means of a real web-based distributed application.

The geometries of many problems of practical interest are created from circular or ellip- tic arcs. Arc boundary elements can represent these boundaries exactly, and consequently, errors caused by representing such geometries using polynomial shape functions can be removed. To fully utilize the geometry of circular boundary, the non-singular boundary integral equations (BIEs) and a general nonlinear transformation technique available for arc elements are introduced to remove or damp out the singular or nearly singular proper- ties of the integral kernels. Several benchmark 2D elastostatic problems demonstrate that the present algorithm can effectively handle singular and nearly singular integrals occur- ring in the boundary element method (BEM) for boundary layer effect and thin-walled structural problems. Owing to the employment of exact geometrical representation, only a small number of elements need to be divided along the boundary and high accuracy can be achieved without increasing other more computational efforts.
