The integration of renewable-based distributed generation (RDG) units instead of conventional fossil fuels is beneficial as it eliminates the negative impacts on the environment while ensuring an efficient operation of the power system. However, because of the irregular characteristics of renewable energy sources (RES), it is essential to ensure the optimum sizing and placement of the RDG units. Several challenges emerge when distributed generation (DG) units are disconnected from the grid, and an islanded system is formed. Ensuring system stability becomes a crucial task in such islanded systems. This paper presents a combined approach to determine the optimal load shedding amount along with the sizing and placement of RDG units by implementing Flood Optimizer. To address this multi-objective optimization (MOO) problem, an objective function is formed that incorporates the voltage stability index (VSI), the total load to be shed, and the overall system losses. The performance of the suggested method was evaluated in an islanding scenario involving two DG units within the IEEE 33 bus distribution system, utilizing MATLAB software. The results were analyzed through simulation, compiling values such as the remaining load on each bus, the size and position of RDG units, VSI, and total system loss. © 2024 IEEE.

What are the key drivers of the (Industrial) Internet of Things ((I)IoT)? Alongside the interconnection of the various devices, sensors, and actuators, it is above all the data collected and transmitted that is of particular significance, the (I)IoT itself is the source and recipient of various types of data. Within this, there are two main aspects that need to be considered: (i) the transmission of data with appropriate latency and reliability requirements, and (ii) the safeguarding of this data. Both requirements are taken into account during the development of the Sixth Generation (6G) Wireless Systems. This is conceived to deliver higher data rates, reduced cost deployment, and enhanced reliability while providing universal connectivity. Hence, to assist such a vast network domain, (new) 6G-enabling technologies are developed, which include Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RISs), that are capable of modifying and reconfiguring the wireless propagation channels. This work describes concepts on how security, in particular Physical Layer Security (PhySec) methods, can be supported by RISs. Furthermore, an effective impedance surface model is presented, allowing efficient simulation of beamsplitting and shaping properties of RISs. Finally, the applicability of the use cases is mentioned, with a particular focus on Visible Light Communication (VLC). © The Author(s) 2023.

In the human pose estimation task, on the one hand, 3-D pose always has difficulty in dividing different 2-D poses if the view is limited;on the other hand, it is hard to reduce the lifting ambiguity because of the lack of depth information, it is an important and challenging problem. Therefore, two-stage representation refinement based on the convex combination for 3-D human pose estimation is proposed, in which the two-stage method includes a dense-spatial-temporal convolutional network and a local-to-refine network. The former is applied to determine the features between each video frame;the latter is used to get the different scales of pose details. It aims to address the difficulty of estimating 3-D human pose from 2-D image sequences. In such a way, it can better use the relations between every frame in the sequence of the pose video to produce more accurate results. Finally, we combine the above network with a block called convex combination to help refine the 3-D pose location. We test the proposed approach on both Human3.6m and MPII datasets. The result confirms that our method can achieve better performance than improved CNN supervision, a simple yet effective baseline, and coarse-to-fine volumetric prediction. Besides, a robustness test experiment is carried out for the proposed method while the input is interrupted. The result verifies that our method shows better robustness. © 2024 IEEE.

Nonlinear equations systems(NESs)are widely used in real-world problems and they are difficult to solve due to their nonlinearity and multiple *** algorithms(EAs)are one of the methods for solving NESs,given their global search capabilities and ability to locate multiple roots of a NES simultaneously within one ***,the majority of research on using EAs to solve NESs focuses on transformation techniques and improving the performance of the used *** contrast,problem domain knowledge of NESs is investigated in this study,where we propose the incorporation of a variable reduction strategy(VRS)into EAs to solve *** VRS makes full use of the systems of expressing a NES and uses some variables(i.e.,core variable)to represent other variables(i.e.,reduced variables)through variable relationships that exist in the equation *** enables the reduction of partial variables and equations and shrinks the decision space,thereby reducing the complexity of the problem and improving the search efficiency of the *** test the effectiveness of VRS in dealing with NESs,this paper mainly integrates the VRS into two existing state-of-the-art EA methods(i.e.,MONES and DR-JADE)according to the integration framework of the VRS and EA,*** results show that,with the assistance of the VRS,the EA methods can produce better results than the original methods and other compared ***,extensive experiments regarding the influence of different reduction schemes and EAs substantiate that a better EA for solving a NES with more reduced variables tends to provide better performance.

Without a safety and secure Power System, a state cannot function by the fact that all public systems are interdependent and dependent of electricity. This Power System is composed of several critical power infrastructures of major importance without which the economy and industry of any state in the world could not function. The access to electricity that is created by these critical infrastructures is a common right of every citizen (according with The United Nation 21 Agenda 1992 stated that 'energy is essential for economical and social development and the improvement of quality of life') and it empowers all citizens of a state to find technical and social solutions in times of peace, but also in times of crisis or war, to prevent, correct or managing a blackout. In every state around the world, the Power System is the most important and complex system in that it provides and facilitates critical, domestic and industrial consumers the electricity needed to have a normal life in safety and security. Every Power System is in total interdependence with other systems: food system, water supply system, transport system, health system, financial system, commercial system, administrative system, communication system-information, etc. Through this paper, the authors aimed to take a look at the history, causes and effects of some of the most devastating blackouts that occurred nationally and worldwide between 1977-2018. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents a robust secondary frequency control integrated with decoupled trigonometric saturated droop controller (DTSDC). The primary frequency controller may induce an error in frequency regulation, which affects the load sharing accuracy among microgrid distributed generators (DGs). Therefore, a centralized secondary controller is designed to converge the frequency to its nominal value for grid-forming inverters. Using an advanced communication channel, the proposed primary and secondary controller can primarily restore the frequency during disturbances, such as DG on/off switching and loading system variation. The practicality and performance of the proposed controller have been demonstrated with MATLAB simulation environment on a mesh microgrid system consisting of four parallel DGs-based inverters. Simulation results show the proposed controller's robustness in the microgrid frequency stability. Hence, it achieves accurate active power sharing with a linear load. Moreover, the impact of resistive and inductive line impedance is discussed in this study. A comparison between the microgrid centralized controller (MGCC) and the decoupled trigonometric saturated droop controller (DTSDC) only is conducted to show the robustness of the presented controller performance. © 2023 IEEE.

Improve Harris Hawkes optimizer algorithm via Laplace crossover

Nowadays, the speed of solving optimization problems by increasing various issues and the number of variables is critical. The Harris Hawk optimization method is a brand-new, intelligent system that resolves optimization issues by mathematically simulating the natural behavior of hawks. In this study, the Harris Hawks optimization method and the Laplace crossover operator are merged, and a new enhanced Harris Hawks algorithm (LX-HHO) based on the Laplace optimization algorithm is suggested. The purpose of improving this algorithm is to increase the convergence speed while maintaining good accuracy in achieving the optimal solution. The results of the proposed method on the test functions demonstrate that the algorithm has achieved faster convergence than the original version of the Harris Hawks algorithm and other meta-heuristic algorithms. This is due to the algorithm's accuracy in obtaining the best answer in these functions and to a reduction in the evaluation of the optimization function. Also, comparing and evaluating the proposed algorithm with other algorithms by Friedman and MAE test shows the superiority of the LX-HHO algorithm. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.

The complex distribution network has an obviously various lightning performance with that of the straight periodic lines, due to the uneven pole spans and feeder structure in the distribution network. In this paper, the lightning-induced flashover (FO) performance in a distribution network is investigated via a Monte Carlo method, based on the numerical PEEC-MTL method for line modeling and transient simulation. Different from the traditional indicator, i.e., the flashover rate of a total line, the annual FO number at individual poles is defined and concerned to reflect the distribution of the FO risk due to indirect lightning strikes. It is found that the in a part of an existing rural distribution network of concern if the terminal poles with distribution transformers located protected by surge arresters by default, the poles where the open area is around are more likely to have a higher annual FO number. The soil conductivity significantly affects the values of the annual FO number of individual poles, while there is no obvious change in its overall distribution characteristic of the distribution network, which is mainly determined by the line topology. Compared with the case without surge arresters besides the distribution transformers, it indicated the great significance of the protection for terminal poles with distribution transformers. The present work could provide a theoretical basis for differentiated protection against indirect lightning and more factors and conditions would be of concern in the following work. © Beijing Paike Culture Commu.
