$V_{\text{cp}}$-Decomposition-Based Adaptive Search for Optimal Power Extraction in Photovoltaic Systems

Maintaining optimal power in changing environments presents a significant challenge for photovoltaic systems. This article introduces a novel $V_{\text{cp}}$ decomposition-based adaptive strategy (VD-AS) aimed at enhancing optimal power extraction in varying environmental conditions. Distinct from the conventional maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technologies, the proposed VD-AS method estimates the peak pattern based on the voltage at the current peak on the power-voltage curve. Utilizing the peak pattern information, a sim-to-real peak identification model is capable of predicting the global maximum power point (GMPP) locus. It not only enables an accurate adaptive search for the GMPP locus, but also substantially minimizes the need for unnecessary global searches when the peak pattern is consistent. Experimental results from a laboratory prototype demonstrate that the proposed method can accurately track the GMPP with a smaller voltage search range and shorter tracking time. Its tracking efficiency is generally 10% higher than that of state-of-the-art GMPP tracking methods.

Path prediction is currently being considered for use in the context of mobile and wireless computing toward more efficient network resource management schemes. Path prediction allows the network and services to further enhance the quality of service levels the user enjoys. Such mechanisms are mostly meaningful in infrastructures like wireless LANs. In this article we present a path prediction algorithm that exploits the machine learning algorithm of learning automata. The decision of the learning automaton is driven by the movement patterns of a single user but is also affected by the aggregated patterns demonstrated by all users. Simulations of the algorithm, performed using the Realistic Mobility Pattern Generator, show increased prediction accuracy.

This study focuses on transmitting data utilizing medical sensors that are vital for patients in hospitals and other settings. In this situation, Light Fidelity refers to transmitting medical sensor data or other data comprising the Transmitter (Tx) and the Receiver (Rx). If the Light Fidelity Principle is used, the Transmitter transmits LEDs or light to the Receiver. At the same time, the Receiver contains a receiver or light detection component known as the Light Dependent Resistor (LDR);using programming and this basic working principle, data can be sent from the LED Transmitter to the LDR Receiver using C++ Programming and its Library to send Medical sensor data. Sensors can include pulse sensors, like in prior research, and additional sensors such as SPO2 or blood pressure sensors. For medical data, a modest bit rate is sufficient, but LiFi applications can be created in such a way that they can be hybridized with WiFi and other RF devices such as LoRa and the Internet of Things. © 2024 IEEE.

In addition to the main injection, current diesel engines often use one or more pilot injections and one or more post injections to better control the combustion process. The mass of fuel delivered and the timing of these injections has a strong affect on the combustion temperature, the heat release rate, the torque production and the formation of harmful emissions. As the cylinder conditions change and in particular as the in-cylinder oxygen concentration changes, the fuel injection masses and timings must be adjusted to achieve a desired trade-off between emissions production and fuel consumption. Alternative combustion modes are particularly sensitive to the cylinder conditions. Incorrectly estimating the cylinder contents can cause inefficient combustion and can increase the emissions produced during transient operations. Current in-cylinder oxygen concentration estimators do not account for the transport delay of the recirculated exhaust gas and are therefore less accurate during transients. By incorporating the effects of the time-varying transport delay, the plug flow based oxygen concentration model presented in this paper is able to dynamically predict the in-cylinder oxygen concentration of every induction event. The robust performance of the proposed model is demonstrated through comparisons to a high-fidelity GT-Power engine model.

Generation dynamics and load dynamics plays an important role in the small signal stability analysis of Microgrids, especially for the islanded operation mode. It is essential for a Microgrid to maintain small signal stability characteristics under small changes of operating conditions caused by generation variations or load fluctuations. In this paper, a novel approach based on matrix perturbation theory (MPT) is proposed for the computation of eigen-solutions in a perturbed Microgrid system. Rigorous theoretical analysis is conducted on the distinct and multiple eigenvalues and their corresponding eigenvectors respectively under perturbations of generation or load. The computational flowchart of the system eigen-solutions is then proposed, aimed at obtaining eigenvalues and eigenvectors of a perturbed system without solving an eigenvalue problem repeatedly. Finally, the effectiveness of the matrix perturbation based approach for eigen-solutions' analysis are tested via a low-voltage Microgrid prototype.

Compensated transmission lines are employed in power system networks to increase energy transmission capacity, improve system stability, decrease transmission losses, and provide more flexibility in power management. However, the effectiveness of protection relays in detecting, classifying, and locating faults in such networks is significantly impacted. This is due to changes in impedance within the fault loop caused by devices used in compensated networks, which alters the apparent impedance seen by the relay. This study introduces three different fault detection and classification schemes for compensated transmission lines. Initially, an IEEE 9-bus system with series compensation at line 4–6 is utilized for data collection. Feature extraction using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is then conducted, followed by the implementation of fine k-nearest neighbors (KNN), Medium Nuero network (MNN), and SQVM classifiers. A comprehensive performance analysis is carried out, revealing that SQVM achieves the highest overall accuracy of 99.3%, while the fine tree outperforms SQVM in single-line fault detection.

The Polymer Optical Interconnect Technology (POINT) represents a major collaborative effort among GE, Honeywell, AMP, AlliedSignal, Columbia University and the University of California at San Diego (UCSD), sponsored by ARPA, in developing affordable optoelectronic module packaging and interconnect technologies for board- and backplane- level optical interconnect applications for a wide range of military and commercial applications. The POINT program takes a novel development approach by fully leveraging the existing electronic design, processing, fabrication and module packaging technologies to optoelectronic module packaging. The POINT program further incorporates several state-of-the-art optoelectronic technologies that include high-speed VCSEL for multichannel array data TM transmission;flexible optical polymers such as Polyguide or coupling of device-to-fiber using a passively alignment process;a low-loss polymer for backplane interconnect to provide a high I/O density;low-cost diffractive optical elements (DOE) for board-to-backplane interconnect;and use of molded MT array ferrule to reduce overall system size, weight, and cost. Wide bandgap based medium voltage power semiconductor devices have opened up a multitude of opportunities for medium-voltage converters in power transmission and distribution. In addition to low on-state resistance, compared to its silicon counterparts, the fast switching capability of these devices has made it possible for medium voltage converter operation at high frequencies. This helps in the reduction in the size and weight of the magnetic components. A Mobile Utility Support Equipment based three-phase Solid-State Transformer (MUSE-SST) system is developed at FREEDM Systems center to interconnect a three-phase 4160 V grid to a three-phase 480 V grid. The MUSE-SST system consists of three power conversion stages, to establish isolated grid interconnection, namely MVac/MVdc stage (MV Active front end converter), MVdc/LVdc stage (Dual active bridge converter), and LVdc/LVac stage (LV Active front end converter). Galvanic isolation is introduced in the MVdc/LVdc stage using an MV-LV high-frequency transformer. This paper discusses the modeling of the parasitic elements and characterization of the high-frequency transformer. A SPICE model is developed to emulate the parasitic elements of the high-frequency transformer. Experimental results validating the operation of the high-frequency transformer are provided. The medium voltage dual active bridge converter, which forms the MVdc/LVdc stage of the MUSE-SST system, is also discussed and experimental results demonstrating the operation and feasibility of the medium voltage dual active bridge converter are shown. © 2020 IEEE.
